I have twice found it difficult to bond with a puppy even years after the death of a beloved dog. It gets better, but it can take a few years. Spending one-on-one time with the new dog does help to make memories that will bring you closer - can you take Teddy to a flea market, or maybe to a park while you knit?
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna

Thank you. We do take him almost everywhere! He loves the farmer's market. We took him to an outdoor restaurant and he did very well. I was just surprised that I didn't have an instant bond with him, but it's growing!

@@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna Maybe just you and Teddy could do more things since he's already bonded to your husband? Hang in there - you may never love him as much as you did your last dog, but you can still have a great relationship with him.

Appreciate you two... This is so well-produced and always interesting. The microphone coozy worked well; the sound is much better and not so tinny. Sorry it was so hot the day you made this. I think it was the day I couldn't stand the heat anymore and put the A/C in the upstairs where I've been working. Kim, The retreat sounded wonderful; you make me want to go. Jonna, I'm so glad you had time with your grandsons. Perfect age to go 'sploring' (as my Dad used to say) with. I hope they want to visit more often. I miss not having my grandsons here; they're 23 and 20 now. Time goes by fast. Thanks for all the beautiful knits and ideas! Take care. ❤ And, love to all affected by this extreme weather. I’m inspired to crochet, which I haven’t done much of for a while because I knit constantly. Mostly socks this summer using the classic sock pattern by Yankee Knitter. I can’t decide whether to do granny squares or the Arne and Carlos pattern that Kim is doing! Maybe a should do both! Thanks for all your inspiration and enthusiasm! Lovely episode, thank you both. I was watching it snuggled under my Primrose blanket (winter here in New Zealand) and cheering you both on with your blankets. My Primrose is very colourful indeed as it's mainly made from a ton of leftover scraps (although I did buy a few cheap balls in colourways I don't normally knit with.) I'm more comfortable than just about anyone I know with randomising colour, so the only rule I gave myself was not to have the same yarn touching anywhere. One of the happiest items I've ever made. I think you'll love yours when you get there. Mine took a couple of years as it was the thing I picked up in between other projects.

This may be an unpopular dog opinion....I'm in my 60s, and have had dogs for all my adult life. There were 2 along the way that were just not a good fit for our family. I felt a bit guilty, but did re-home them...i felt like I'd failed a bit. But then I thought...if a dog's life is about 10 - 14yrs, that's a bit chunk of my life to live with a pet that doesn't fit with our home. Believe me, I didnt make the choice lightly, but it was the right choice.😊

Jonna, where do you buy your linen? I love those shorts, they look so comfortable. I live in Central Florida and my family has Disney passes and those shorts look like the would be perfect in the heat. Yesterday we were driving to Hollywood Studios on I-4 and the temperature was reading 104. So anything that would be comfortable and cool would be perfect.

Kim, I'm knitting the Solare sweater and would also like to switch from W&T to GSR. Do you have any recos for how to do that? Thanks!
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna 7 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly, I read somewhere (and this is what I did on my Solare) that you should do the first SR as written, meaning in the same place. So knit to desired spot, turn, make double stitch. Then after that, if the SRs are getting longer each time, knit one extra stitch before the previous turn (one more than the pattern calls for) on the rest of the SRs, but if the SRs are getting shorter, knit one less stitch before the next turn (one less than the pattern calls for) on the rest of the SRs. Does that make sense? I honestly have no idea if I did it correctly, but I read a few posts about it and watched a few videos and decided to do it that way. 😜 Kim

Great video! Kim, I love your Primrose and I’m in the process of shopping for yarn for mine. I already have a lot of fingering weight yarn and so many colors. Any thoughts on how this blanket would be with fingering instead of DK? Also, I love your color combinations and will buy the same yarn if I decide to go with DK. Which colors did you buy? Thank you!
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna Жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, I'm so happy that you're going to crochet a Primrose! I love mine and can't wait to finish it. As far as yarn goes, if you use fingering and a smaller hook, the flowers would be smaller, so the throw would be smaller. Or you could just make a lot more flowers and make it as large as you want. You could also hold the fingering double to equal DK, but I don't know how hard that is with crochet. Finally, as you probably know, I am using John Arbon Knit by Numbers DK, but since I bought my yarn, they have decided to change the fiber content and will slowly be transitioning to the new blend, so I'm not sure when that will happen and/or what colors will be available. I'll include a link to their KBN webpage below... But here is a list of my colors: Light pink = 66 Pink = 63 Red = 20 Orange = 16 Yellow = 52 Light green = 71 Green = 68 Teal = 92 Turquoise = 38 Light turquoise = 42 Light blue = 97 Violet = 84 Light purple = 34 Purple = 28 I hope that helps!!! ❤️Kim www.jarbon.com/product/kbn-new-blend-preview/

Hi, I'm a fellow crafter but I'm also a sound engineer and I just wanted to give you some unsolicited advice. If the sound of the aircon really bothers you then here are a few things that you can do. 1. Unfortunately the best way to get rid of the sound is to actually just switch the aircon off but I understand why that might not be pleasant. 2. Use the clip on mics you were referring to. The idea is that the closer the mic is to you the more better it will record your voices and it will record less background noise. This won't completely get rid of the sound of the aircon, and you will have to be careful not to rub your projects (or anything else) against the mics. 3. This is the last solution it can work but it's the most difficult to get right. You can use a de-noise filter which is an audio plugin. Most editing softwares have it. There are a few tutorials here on youtube but this one is a little more technical and will take some practice. The free plugins tend to not to work perfectly but they reduce the noise. The fluffy mic cover actually works great for outdoor recordings because it reduces the sound that the wind makes when it hits the mic. The trick to using it is to get the mic as close as possible to you guys when you speak. Hopefully that was helpful.
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your suggestions! We have since done more research and discovered that we can turn down the gain in the camera, then adjust the gain in the mic as needed. In addition, there is a background noise filter setting on the external mic that we weren’t using. Hopefully these fixes will help but if not, the next step would be individual clip on mics and/or turning the AC off. 😂😩😅😊

Kim, you hooked me on a mYak retreat, I forgot to comment on your catch up video, but I have been eyeing their retreats since last year and although I don't have to splurge on travel (Berlin to Italy is comparatively cheaper) it's still too expensive for now. How exciting that you were able to be in the room when she was born. I made an Ankers sweater for my two year old granddaughter and it was such a fun knit, easy but different so it kept me engaged and it knit up really fast. I am going to make an Ankers T for myself in some cotton yarn that is colour changing. I wish I could follow you twice to increase your numbers, but alas, You Tube only allows one. Lol! Always a joy to knit along with you and enjoy catching up with your lives. 💕😉

Thanks for mentioning the dog bonding - I got my dog when she was tiny. They said she'd be at max 10 lb. Well, I must have gotten her when she was 5 weeks old or so because she now weights around 30 lbs.! I kept seeing her growing and getting bigger and bigger and I kept telling her she's got to stop cause I won't be able to pick her up. lol We had our issues during this time - she's hyper, out of control when people come over, when the phone rings, when she hears a car outside, or a noise inside... lol At the time I asked myself what was I thinking, and there are still days when I ask myself that, but overall she's just the best dog ever. She knows I can't hear well so she does alert me to noises I might not hear, she reminds me when her bowls are getting empty, and the funniest thing she's done recently was croon to a song that was on a podcast. I had to repeat that section just to make sure and yep, when that music came on she ooohed through the whole thing. Not a howl, just a gentle ooohing. I should have recorded it but I was so surprised I didn't think to do it at the time. Anyway, she's 5 now and a bit calmer (pug/chihuahua mix). You'll find your spot with Teddy that will make him just perfect for you eventually. Izzy, my dog has been a trial but also such a blessing. She also makes me get up and move around every hour or so when I'm knitting. And she makes me laugh, pushes up next to me in bed, back to back usually, sits directly under me in my chair where I sit most days or in my lap. But it took awhile to reach this point in our lives together. She was definitely not the dog I imagined when she fit in the palm of my hand. I am positive you will get to the same point with Teddy.

What a lovely story and thank you so much for sharing! He's growing on me! I wish he would stop stealing the toilet paper though. It's like living with a racoon!

It was so good to see another episode! Jonna, when you mention how creative and inspiring some knitters are on instagram, and how you want to knit all the things, that is you for me! I saw your Nordiska, I had to make one, then your Academic, and your Delia, and your Hoarfrost... Thanks for being so inspiring!

Great podcast ladies. Kim, the retreat sounded wonderful and your pictures were beautiful. Jonna, I had to laugh. I’ve been bitten by the crochet bug too. I started with a tote bag and am now working on a blanket. I want to make the Ariana cardigan that Sarah has been wearing in her podcasts. It’s nice to switch back and forth between the crafts. ❤

Can you explain the difference between German short rows and wrap and turns because I’ve seen them used interchangeably so now I’m thoroughly confused on the difference.
