In this video, I'll walk you through how I fixed my gored skirt pattern generator and knit a 4 gored skirt with short row shaping nit he hem.
Checkout the first prototype: • Drafting a gored skirt...
The free pattern is available on my website but it may not look like this skirt any more as I update it: www.abstractkni...
I made this skirt on my Brother kh-910 standard gauge knitting machine with bamboo rayon from Colourmart colourmart.com...
The elastic: amzn.to/3pzAMOD
My website is a ReactJS site hosted on glitch.com/

Found this channel a few days ago and have been binge watching ever since! i cannot express the squeal of excitement I gave when this popped up as posted a few minutes ago as I got ready for bed! I was recently diagnosed with arthritis in my late 20's, so it's been a struggle realizing I may not be able to hand knit or crotchet in the future. This has opened a whole new door to a way I may be able to keep going! Love the content! I know it's maybe more niche and outside the scope of what you'd like to explore on this channel, but I think it would be actually really interesting to get a glimpse into the code side of AYAB. Watching you troubleshoot in the AYAB development vlog was completely fascinating and made me feel a lot less crazy for angry singing at my code when I'm alone! Edit: Hahaha, I should have watched the video before commenting - I would have seen that you covered coding!

you are my people 😁. I say machine knitting is an engineer's hobby. Not that you need to be one to do it, but it satisfies the engineering mind like no other craft does ♥️

You have me hooked with the pattern generator! I randomly came across this one and got so excited when you started just showing your code page. I will be bookmarking and watching all of your videos with the pattern generators. I am a software developer in Canada and just am loving your videos!! The math, the patterns, the creativity of machine knitting is just so much fun. But so hard to find any information that isn't from the 70's or 80s! So looking forward to how this dress turns out...

As a fellow coder and hand knitter who knows nothing about knitting machines, watching you rewrite the code for the pattern was honestly the best explanation for me personally of any of your videos I've seen so far. Loved it. Great job on the skirt and the math.

Very pretty and professional ❤. Wish I found you in the 80's when I had my singer. (You probably wasn't born yet 😂) Unfortunately I am too old now to learn all the programming. But you were great! And it was interesting watching you. Keep up the good work.

I’m glad you included the coding :D let us not forget that computers and coding found their beginning in textiles.

I love watching this garment evolve! The pattern writing was actually very interesting to watch personally since I delved into programming in college for my New Media art degree but then never used it after graduation so it’s fun to watch it be used again for art purposes, haha.

I discovered your channel yesterday. I haven't pulled my KM's out since burning out in 2020. I have an extra 930 bed without a matching carriage I may have to give AYAB a try. I've been using img2track and really love it. I create pixel art on the iPad and then import into img2track on an older MacBook. It's really fun connecting machines from the 80's with 2k of ram to modern machines.

New to your channel and to machine knitting but I found the coding for the pattern really interesting! I don't like math that much, but I have been taking programming classes, and I love this application of those skills. Your skirt is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the fluid movement of it. Very excited to see your process for designing and creating the dress.

Very interesting way to make a circle skirt, I've always knit them sideways with short row shaping. This looks great, and would stop a seam at the waist for longer dresses. I will have to try it.

I love your videos! I’m a hand knitter for about 18 years and have discovered machine knitting a few months ago. I love the idea of ħow you write patterns using code. I have made two gored skirts. One with 4 and the other with 2. Thank you so much for your dedication, time and work. I would like to contribute toward yarn and a Dean and Bean CSM. BUT I don’t have a PayPal account, is there another way to contribute to you? I’m going to try to include pics of my skirts.

I love seeing your approach to solving these construction problems, thanks for you sharing your journey. Not sure if you're aware, or it will suit your way of thinking about design, but I've found Janet Nabney's book Designing Garments on the Knitting Machine a very helpful resource. She designs by drafting shapes from body measurements, similar to drafting sewn garments.

Omg all that coding is overwhelming me just watching lol. I used to know a lot of html stuff when I was younger but i completely forgot it all. Wow you have taken knitting to a whole new level lol. Thats really cool you've got your knitting machine hooked up to your computer. Does the carriage move back and forth and knit on its own, or do hou still have to do that part?

How woulld you go about doing this with more gores at the waist? I think something with 5, 6 or 7 gores would be great and would eliminate the center front seam.. I guess you would decrease the final number of stitches a the waist of the finished panel. I think keeping the final width at the bottom, plus the added panels could give the effect of a very flowy, almost double circle skirt. Just got my machine today. Looking forward to learning how to use it. Definitely going to start with something easier than this.

Your videos are a great help, thank you! I watched all of them. I started machine knitting only recently. Also your calculator is wonderful! I just subscribed to your channel. Will you be making a video for the raglan sweater, too? I would love to knit one on my machine and a video would be so helpful.

This new iteration is to die for!!! You are making me want to go buy all the bamboo yarn to do this because circle skirts are my weakness. I cannot wait to see how the next piece comes out. I have a question from a newbie, can you not use the cast on comb as a weight on the piece? I do plan on getting more weights but for now is it a good idea?

Do I see your code as geometry? No, but I know what you mean. I was doing POVRay for a while and got to a point where I could see that code as shapes. If definitely takes time to get used to that kind of thing

React developers at my company won't be safe anymore- PM will get back to programming. I didn't had any motivation to grow my knowledge in JS as I don't code normally. Now I think "Hm... This is best way of generating all kinds of patterns for crocheting, knitting, sewing and if I will understand better SQL and R I can built Data Bases for all my crafts and more..." With C after a few months I no longer saw the code but the components of the machine. If something broke, I looked at the elements and saw bugs as broken elements. Well, apart from the semicolons - you never see them...😂
