That was very well-explained! The prestrung beads and slip stitch technique is really neat! This video took the mystery out of knitting with beads. Thank you Knitpicks!

You're doing it much easier than I was what I was attempting to do. It also lays much nicer. Thank you!
@margosollazzo22027 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have to be time consuming. You have a needle that can hold about 20-30 beads at a time. Just pick up several beads at once, so you don't have to go back and forth.

I am so glad I am not alone in doing it differently. I pull the bead up and leave it between the stitches. Also crafts stores in the beading section, they sell a wire threader that looks like a needle but is made of wire so the eye of the needle is flexible and can be used with any weight yarn and any size bead. I love making jewelry with sock yarn and really good quality beads I get at a specialty bead store in town. I also use a crochet hook to add beads as I knit so the bead goes through the loop of the stitch.

Your explanations are excellent! I have used the crotchet when knitting with beads , but this is sooo much easier. I dont gave to carry my little jar with beads and dropping them everywhere... lol. Thank you, thank you.....

Thank you so much for your video! I have never knitted adding beads to a project and your video made it look so easy. I plan to try doing this in one of my future projects. I also agree that do it the slip stitch way looks much better than just knitting it.

Thank you for showing us how to do this. I've never used beads before for the simple reason I didn't know how. Now I do. I will try this when I start a new hat I'm making. :)

I've always thought beaded knitting was a mystery. Now I know it's just a slip stitch with yarn in front!

What a great tutorial. I wish I had watched this before I began the Bridal Clutch that I'm working on. It's my first time with beads and clusters. And, yeah, the beads are sliding to the "other side" of my work. I'm following instruction exactly and they still slide to the back... But, when I push them to the correct side the effect is wonderful. I plan to line this little clutch so, I hope that will keep the beads up front ... if not I guess I'll have to use a needle and thread and "force" them in place. Now, that I've got this new technique... I'm going to finish the bag with it. The one stitch that you slide once the bead is in place will "not" get purled, which is what my pattern says to do. Wish me luck. I have high hopes. If I had time... I'd rip it and begin anew... but I should have it done by next week.

This is a nice and easy method for small projects. But when I have a project with 1000 and more beads and more than 1 ball of yarn I will have to use the method with a crochet. Also this method will only be nice to do with smooth yarn.

Somehow the second bead you knitted on did not line up with previously knitted beads. I think it was the way you held the bead in place when knitting the next stitch. What needles are you using? Chiagoo?
@bettybare33208 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that advice. I was just trying to figure out when I saw that you were going to miss a knit stitch even if you went to the prul side that slip stitch would still be missing one knit stitch in that row, because you would be pulling al the stitches as well, which would still be 1 stitch less in that colum, wouldn't it? Thank you.
@knitpicksOfficial8 жыл бұрын
+betty bare Oh, yes - in that case you are right. You will be skipping one stitch in your row gauge, but your total stitch count is still the same - so you won't be losing any stitches that you knit/purl.

***** That's what I thought. Ok, Thank you sooo very much. How many stitches did you do. How many stitches are between each bead. How many strands of beads did you do.

I'm after some help please. I added some beads by this slipstitch method but now that I am finished the beads are very loose. I thought I had pulled the wool tight when knitting the next stitch. How do you suggest I prevent this happening.

Good luck trying to find a needle you can get yarn through. I can't manage it.
@zacdavid99196 жыл бұрын
When using yarn, you use a needle made of soft wire with an eye that collapses as the bead passes over it. Look for "big eye" or "collapsible" eye needle.

Every time you slip a stitch over to add a bead, you don't knit that stitch. How do you regain stitches in those columns, where those stitches was only slipped over and not knitted? thank you
@knitpicksOfficial8 жыл бұрын
+betty bare Hi there! You will purl the slipped stitches on the next row when you work across the wrong side - that way, you don't lose any stitches! Hope that helps and happy knitting :)

@shiksagoddess24047 жыл бұрын
My one problem is that i cannot seem to find the right needle that is small enough to go through the beads with an eye big enough for yarn to go through.
@Char9o8o5o6 жыл бұрын
I do this, dip the tip of the end of the yarn in nail polish, any color, let it dry thoroughly and put the beads on the yarn using the stiff tip.' Don't use too much polish, but yet enough to soak into the fibers. Works very well!
