I just knit my first few rows. I am an avid crocheter but mostly that is because I'm left-handed and when it came to knitting those that wanted to teach me simply ended up getting frustrated and giving up. Crocheting was easy to self-teach and I mastered it myself and now have many beautiful projects. I wanted to learn knitting though, and so after many years I bought myself a pair of needles, grabbed a ball from my stash, and went to google. I found Hannah. For the first time I cast on with and it made sense. I've made three rows and I just have to say how happy I am! Than you!

Hi Gabi, for some the one step at a time is much better than a full tutorial. This one gets the first stitch on the needle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooTWqoZ5itaJqqc It includes 3 methods, so you can have a play and see which one works best. Then have a go with the casting on the rest of the stitches. Have a look at the most recent time I did this - the camera angle is slightly different. I start casting on at 4 mins: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIK8dmyjiq2tmJY You'll not want to carry on with the whole tutorial in that, but it's a good, clear casting on for you to see close up. Cast offs that look identical to cast ons are pretty much impossible to find as the yarn and stitches are at different stages of the knit. The top of the stitch is a loop and the base of the stitch is two strands coming together. The best I've found is then one I share in this video which looks more similar because the casting on that I tend to use is bulkier from going behind the stitch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaGuh36DbLtojZo And I have another video with multiple cast off methods, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qardeWBuiqmZfsU Happy knitting 🧶

I have had many people try to teach me to crochet since I was a little girl. My mom, both grand mothers, an aunt, 2 friends, and a friend's mother. I just can't seem to get it. My hands cramp and I'm constantly fighting the yarn because it twists in on itself. My question is this, does the yard twist on itself with knitting? I think I would really like to learn, but hubby has gotten frustrated with my buying and getting rid of crochet supplies over and over throughout the years.
@KnitWithHannah2 жыл бұрын
I've not come across this but it may be the way you've been taught to hold the yarn. I'd try with a single ball and single pair of needles and see how you go. As I share in this video the Drops Nepal and a pair of 5mm needles will cost you less than £10 (possibly nearer £5) which will give you an answer. Happy knitting! 🧶

I’ve watched several ‘beginner’ videos and just couldn’t get the hang of it, then I found your one and I can actually make some stitches - Thank You! I keep having a problem with all my stitches falling off the end of the needle though, they’re so slippery. So I’ve stopped after several attempts as it’s frustrating getting so far and then loosing all my work off the needle, I’m going to order wooden needles to see if they are better than the metal ones i’m trying to use! Thanks again, I hope to make a scarf - I’ve crocheted a few, but knitting looks a lot quicker, once its mastered.
@KnitWithHannah4 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad this was helpful and got you started, ryiah. This video will help you put the stitches back on the needles if they fall off again: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZq2Y6OphdCsb5Y The other issue might be that you're knitting a bit loosely, I can help with that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZW3dJugfc-erdE But certainly it's a good instinct to find some wood or bamboo needles instead of metal. You'll have more friction on wood or bamboo so it'll be an easier start for you. You'll get there - keep at it! happy knitting! 😍

Wow how simply you explained and showed how to cast on. Knitting has always fascinated me. I learned a little in school for arts and crafts when I was 7 and I found it the most difficult thing ever😂 it frightened me so much I never wanted to look at another yarn or knitting needle ever again!😂 30 years on and the fascination has blossomed again and here I am subscribing to your channel. Now I've just got to muster up the courage to buy a pair of needles and yarn again😰haha cant wait! Great video thanks for making it that little bit easier for me!😍💕❤

Yay! welcome to the channel. It does look difficult from the outside, but yes, go find some yarn and needles and you'll be fascinated from the inside too! Happy knitting (and happy shopping!)

God you make it look so easy. I find it *extremely* difficult and frustrating to recreate what you're doing, but I'm getting there slowly. Each day I'm a tiny bit better. I can do the cast on now. It all falls apart (literally when I try to knit the first row after the cast on. Everything is too tight and I can't get enough space between the two needles. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a little further 😊

Yes. One stitch at a time, one day at a time and you’ll see improvement. Do take a look at the too tight and too loose videos in the beginners help playlist. They’ll help you see which parts of the stitches can get you on track even more. Happy knitting 🧶

Thank you been a while since I knitted I can only do scarves lol, I used to knick my mums, knitting and she used to go ballistic at me as she would go to get it , when i had gone home , and it would have holes in you could drive thro and she couldn't get her needles out as they had got jammed solid, so everytime I visited she used to tell me not touch her bloody knitting, I actually did it once more jamming the needles in an X I bloody got out of there before she could smack me one .

Ive been crocheting for 10 years and recently decided to try knitting so I can be more well rounded and this tutorial is great. My only question is do you have to switch needle to your left hand or that only a beginner method?
@KnitWithHannah Жыл бұрын
At the beginning of each row, the empty needle is in the right hand. Switching the needles around means you're not learning to knit in two directions. I know there are likely a very few people who can do that, it's really not a thing, like you're pretty much always working in one direction when crocheting. Happy knitting 🧶

I want to knit blanket for my granddaughter and the size I want to do is 90cm by 90cm how many stitches do I have to cast on please
@KnitWithHannah3 жыл бұрын
This will depend on the yarn thickness, the size of needles, and whether you knit tightly, loosely or in the middle. It will be eBay to test it out with a small sample and the multiple up to number of stitches/size of sample to get the larger blanket. If you’re in the membership we can do that together in the knit and natter on Saturday: Knitwithhannah.co.uk/invite Happy knitting 🧶

Just need something to keep my mind busy as I suffer with severe anxiety & depression & was told knitting is the way forward.. So any pointers & tips would be extremely grateful thank you...

Hi, add maybe double this amount of stitches and knit until you can fold it in half and have a bit of extra to flap over, to have a bit of an envelope shape. Once you’ve cast off you can sew up the sides.

Hi where did you get your needles from please as i don't like metal ones
@KnitWithHannah3 ай бұрын
These were actually from a larger set of needles which I found on eBay. It wasn't a good choice as at least half of them went mouldy! So if I was making a choice again, I'd go for the individual pairs one at a time, depending on the size needed. My favourite are KnitPro bamboo needles and Lykke wood, for the 23cm/25cm pairs of straight needles like I'm using here. Happy knitting 🧶

What size needles and yarn are you using please? I don't like the feel of the metal needles can I use the bamboo ones?
@KnitWithHannah2 жыл бұрын
I’m using medium yarn and needles, Aran/worsted weight and 5mm bamboo needles. I like bamboo myself and suggest them for new knitters, the friction holds onto the stitches so they slide about less than on metal.
