Oh that was such an emotional episode. Congrats on your anniversary. I loved the dance can you still remember the steps😁. The knitting behind bars interview was so inspiring. My son suffers with mental health problems and during a terrible episode last year I encouraged him to knit daily as a way of calming him down. He already knew the basics and has turned into a fabulous knitter trying out so many techniques. It has given him a focus and a new interest in life. Knitting kept him out of hospital. It is truly a life saver.

This photography is meticulous! My son works in a prison, and is forever considering what kind of activity helps the boys (it's a juvenile prison) build up their self respect and purpose. Can't think of anything better for bringing these guys into a place of balmy creativity, stresslessness and special warmth! A staggering feat Lynn!

Just Wow! Feeling pretty emotional myself after that interview. I’ve always been a believer that even those who have committed the worst crimes have good in them, and that so often they have been brought up as children in dire situations which led them to lead the lives they did. Lynn is just awesome. And Thank you Andrea for bringing this wonderful story to us! Also - Huge congratulations to you and Andrew. I thought you both looked really elegant and graceful in your tango! A beautiful episode on all fronts. You guys haven't changed at all in 20 years! And what an incredibly inspiring woman Lynn is - so much food for thought about how we can contribute to our communities and enrich other's lives in such simple (although perhaps not always easy) ways. Her perseverance, commitment, openness, and capacity for unconditional love provide an example for us all. A special thanks for this interview :-) M.

Andrea, as of April, 2023 this is my first time seeing this video. I am SO IMPRESSED by Lynn and Knitting Behind Bars. I live in Toronto, Ontario in Canada and I'd love to do something like this with a correctional facility here. One of your best interviews as far as I'm concerned. I do love knitting but it's still all about self - our self-indulgent nature even though we often make and give garments away (to our family members). It's still very selfish. This was great. I have seen a woman who knits hats, scarves and mittens and hangs them on her evergreen tree just before Christmas for the less fortunate in her community. I believe she's in Nova Scotia.

Beautiful wedding of a great couple. I especially enjoy it when your daughter makes an appearance. I just want to say that, like Lynn, I have learned a different point of view regarding inmates. I am a secretary at a community college in Oregon. I call Fridays my happy grindstone days because that's the one day/week I get to go to our local minimum prison and work with the guys there who are interested in going to college once they are released. There are a very large number of "adults-in-custody" who never received their high school diploma, and once they realize that they are worthy and smart, and that they can get their GED, there is no stopping them. Of course, as Lynn said , there are those that will reoffend, but there are also a few who "make it." I've Not attempted to introduce a knitting/crochet class because I am working on the college's dime, but when the time comes that I retire, I plan to continue traveling to the prison and maybe taking on the bureaucratic challenge of introducing these guys to the fiber arts. I've even thought about teaching them to use a spindle. . . Who knows 🤔 anyway, thanks for a great episode.

There was so much to love with this episode. Congratulations on your anniversary! I was seriously impressed with your dancing. What a brilliant idea to celebrate your love with a hot Argentinian tango - the dance of love. Wish we’d thought of that, but then I don’t think we would have pulled it off as well as you did. Well done! I watch many different knitting podcasts on KZbin, but the reason I decided to become a patron for your show back when I did, was the work you do to find such interesting people to interview. I don’t know how you do it, but I’m blown away every time. This time I was sniffling with you, Andrea. What remarkable work Lynn is doing for these men that the rest of society has discarded. 💕

This is the episode that introduced me to Fruity Knitting. I just rewatched it and I'm still so touched by what Lynn has been doing. I noticed that at the beginning of the segment one of the men said he was in for possession. Possession of what? In the US, we have an enormous prison population because we have criminalized the stupidest things, and it's highly racialized. There are people serving years because they had a dime bag of weed (even in states where it's now legal). While we need good policy to dismantle the prison industrial complex, it's so wonderful that someone is giving these guys the gift of 2 hours of peaceful knitting every week. Thanks for a wonderful interview! And, only 20 more to go until I'm caught up!
