This is also called the Italian Tubular cast on. I've used this with two colors of yarn to set up a two-color brioche blanket. I really liked how stretchy it was for the two-color brioche.

I was also thinking it's the No waste yarn version of a Tubular Cast on...

I watch a lot of videos, but if I want cut it to the basic, easy to understand directions for something, your videos are my first search. Thank you 😊

I learned the provisional cast-on from your videos, and just used it to make a double brim for the first time. Thank you for all your videos!

This seems similar to the tubular cast on.

Yesterday I was going to use a hat pattern and it said to use a cable cast on? So I learned how to do that and a knit cast on from a book from the library. Didn't know there are so many different ways to cast on. I usually use the long tail or German and sometimes provisional. I like this one you just did. Maybe I will use it for that hat pattern instead as I didn't really like the cable cast on. Glad I checked your video's today. Thanks

Am I mistaken, or is this similar to Judy's magic cast on? Btw, your hair looks great, super healthy!

Thank you - Judy's Magic CO is a provisional CO, so it's quite different.

Hi Stacy, I've worked this CO many times and have encountered some difficulty when joining to knit in the round. I'm a magic looper but I imagine you'd have the same issue on double points. My issue is, especially when casting on large numbers of stitches, keeping all the stitches oriented and not twisting the CO when joining. I find it very difficult to tell whether I've got a twist in my CO because there are so many twists already. Then of course I discover the twist after trying to knit a round, and have to start all over. Do you have any advice for keeping the stitches oriented? Thanks in advance!

You just have to be really careful, there is no "trick". If you're really having trouble, this may not be the right cast-on for the project you're working. A standard, long-tail cast-on or German Twisted CO are both good, and easy to see if they are twisted.

Thanks for your thoughts. What I've sometimes done, because I think it's the very nicest edge for 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing, is cast on provisionally above the ribbing then come back later and knit the ribbing the other way, then do the equivalent bind off. I wonder if there's a way to employ JMCO by first making as if to join it in the round, then transfer the alternating stitches from two needles to one needle. You might be able to hold the two cast-on needles in parallel while joining in the round, thereby making it much easier to see a twist. I will have to experiment with this.

You can try using long regular straight needles for the first couple of rows and then change to the circular needle when the work is stabilised :-)

This looks similar to the Italian cast on that's typically used with Brioche knitting, is it similar, or even the same?

Is this also called the tubular cast on? If so how would you do this cast on to knit in round to knit the brim of a hat? great video as always.
@Laurie_in_Maine7 жыл бұрын
Work the cast on and next 2 rows flat leaving enough tail to sew the join seamlessly afterwards.

Hey Stacy, I love your work and I'm m learning more each day. do I need to use this cast on method only with one by one ribbing or I can adjust it ti any ribbing count? thanks
@verypinkknits7 жыл бұрын
Please read the note in the video description field - you can use this CO for any rib combination.
