I've had it forever. It's fabulous for putting down a project, picking it up months later. You know exactly where you left off. Couldn't be without it. Can't say enough.

I purchased this two months ago as soon as your review came out. I was a paper pattern person. Hands down. There was no other way. As soon as I downloaded this to my iPad and messed around with it for a few minutes, I knew I had to have the full version. Within an hour I had figured out how to upload my Ravelry patterns (and those that aren't Ravelry with help from Knitters Companion--i.e., patterns from Etsy); and afterwards, place text boxes; upload multiple video examples of certain stitches in one project and toggle back and forth between them (from Very Pink Knits, of course); edit my text boxes as needed; add stitch counters and change colors; underline; highlight; add project notes; adjust my time if I've left my app open while not working a project..... The ruler is quite handy as well. And not only have I uploaded my knitting patterns, I've uploaded my crochet patterns AND QUILT PATTERNS!!! Knitting is not my main hobby, but Quilting is. It didn't take me very long at all to figure out that it works VERY well for that too! What a value-added app! The best $$ I've ever spent on an app. Ever. I only wish it wasn't a subscription, but hey... it's highly useful in my knitting, crocheting, AND quilting. You cannot beat that. As long as I'm involved in any of those three hobbies, this is my go-to. No more paper (unless I have a quilt pattern already on paper). If you're used to messing with "technology," this app is really user friendly and intuitive. It is VERY well thought out and worth every penny. You have got to have this!! 🤓

I was a beginner knitter 5 years ago, and got this software after I’d been knitting about 3 months. My fellow knitters now describe me as “expert”. Well I wouldn’t call myself expert, but I learned so much just by using Knit Companion. Utilizing you tube links, being able to organize my patterns, put notes or even corrections on patterns that may have been in error, or updated by the designer has been wonderful! So glad to see someone as well known as Staci Perry at Very Pink recommend this software is wonderful. It is fabulous software, and I never knit without it!
@betsylanclos28535 жыл бұрын
I have used this software from its inception. The lady who developed KnitCompanion is a software designer by profession who posses the ”Ikigai” to create this program. Every nuance is phenomenal, especially the self-create ability for row repeats, counters and stitch counter by colors. I have not printed a pattern in ages, except when no .pdf is available (thank you scanners!). I not only use this software for knitting and crochet~my Hardanger, needlepoint and cross-stitch patterns integrate as well. No pattern, written or charted, is too large. My Shetland and Estonian wrap patterns ... well, no more countless sheets of paper. Too much hype, you say....maybe, but I am sold on this software. Try it!

Can you tell me how to set up a pattern on there that I'm working on? Say I'm knitting a hat - how do I get the pattern onto the app? Once on there, then I'll have to figure out how to use it, but can't get to step two without a step one! LOL

Staci, in that notes section you can "clip" your pattern abbreviations (or any part of the pattern you want to refer to often) and paste it to the notes so you can always access them no matter what page you're on. So there's no need to go back and forth between pages. You can also clip the charts and create them on their own pages. You can stitch charts together or break them apart. SO, so much you can do. I have eye tracking issues and have so much trouble with paper charts, But with KC I NEVER lose my place. This software has revolutionized my knitting. For real.

Yes, thanks. There are a TON of features I didn't demonstrate here, in the spirit of keeping it really simple to show that it's really easy to use. We're looking at the possibility of doing more KnitCompanion videos in the future, where I can demonstrate more cool features.

I have tracking issues also. One thing I do which helps is, after setting up stitch counters on a chart, I change the stitch colors. For example right twist is red, left twist is blue. Makes a big difference!

A friend recommended Knit Companion years ago, but I didn’t get the paid version until last May. I absolutely love it! I knit a lot of lace shawls and love the convenience of using the chart mode where I can color my stitches and count the rows as I go. I also add the stitch key to the bottom of the page where the notes go. I’m still learning features as I go, however, and didn’t know about the video links-thanks, Stacy! I also didn’t realize that I could access and remove the notes from the top bar. There are just so many features to learn-like the counters and linked counters, that I’m still working on it.

This software is great! I tried using my iPad with pdfs and could follow along and take notes right on the page but I hated that the iPad would fall asleep and I had to let go of my knitting to wake it up. This alone forced me to go to paper and for a tech savvy user that hasn't had a printer in 10 years, I really hated that part of a knitting project. This software can over-ride the fall asleep feature and the iOS version has voice commands! After this video I bought the full version and haven't looked back. This app also instilled the habit of reading through a whole pattern before I begin. I spend a little bit of time building my project, highlighting areas I don't understand and searching for video support. I splice charts together, add tutorials, counters, highlight things I need to pay attention to, turn on voice control and I start knitting. Second favorite feature is the ability for the software to remind me that the row I'm on has an increase/decrease. I can't tell you how many times when I get on a roll and forgot something and had to frog back to decrease - the software not only reminds me but won't let me advance if I don't acknowledge that I did the decrease. Thank you Stacy for this review and all of your tutorials, I'm looking to learning more in both my knitting and using this app.
@verypinkknits4 жыл бұрын
You are getting so much from the software! And I was just thinking last night how I appreciate the fact that KC keeps my iPad awake while I'm using it...my hands were full with a complicated stitch, and I was able to glance at the screen to see what was coming next without the need to wake my iPad up. More KC videos coming soon - the next one is Feb 5!

I just started using Knit Companion and love it! I love it even more since I found this video! Another feature I like, which you didn’t mention, is the Quick Key, at the bottom of the page. The pattern I’m using (the written version, not the chart) has several abbreviations I’ve never used before, and there are two that I keep getting confused. I keep the QK open at the bottom with the abbreviations there, and I can quickly check to make sure I’m doing the correct stitch. I’m sure it would also help with keeping symbols straight when using charts. Very useful for my addled 70+ year old brain.
