I love using flexible DPNs because you can knit faster since you have less needle changes.

All Knitters Pride needs to make is a 1" or 2" cable and we can make these out of our interchangeable needles! It would be amazing 😍😍😍
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 4 жыл бұрын
Yes - except Knitter's Pride doesn't make really small needle sizes in interchangeable sets yet. So it would be easy enough for them to come out with flexible DPN cords for size US 3 (3.25mm) and up...but they still need to make a tiny join for smaller sizes. Like I said in the video, I passed this wish on to them, hopefully they're working on it!

@@verypinkknits I love the flexi-flips for hats and sleeves etc and recommend them for such all the time at the LYS where I work. I also would LOVE the short cable for the end of my Tunisian crochet hook set because sometimes you don't need much more than the hook and the extra cable just flaps around. I hope they listen to your request!!

Staci, thank you so much for your videos! You are so clear with your information, your voice is so pleasant, and your English style knitting suits me so much better than Continental. I learned to knit 60 years ago and all my teachers were English, but I liked the way Continental looked and was led to believe it was much faster. I tried very hard to master the new technique, but it really is hard to teach an old dog new tricks-and purling Continental was always clumsy, so I decided I didn’t need to reinvent the wheel.....Again thank you for your very capable teaching!

I tried the Addis and wasn't crazy about them. I found the needles uncomfortably short for me. I have knit socks using dpns, two circs, and magic loop, but reallylike the concept of "flexible dpns". I am huge fan of Knitters Pride needles and a have multiple sets of their interchangeable needles, including their short needle tips So, when I tried the Addis, I just made my own "flexible dpns" with my KP shorts and a matching 9" fixed circ. Works great!🙂

Yeah, I tried the Addi needles and even the sharper tip is still too blunt for me. I get along very well with the sharpness of Hiya Hiya lace needles, but I can't say I'm crazy about the stainless steel material. What would be perfect would be a needle sharp like Hiya Hiya, but made of Addi's nickel-plated brass.

I love these. Have used them for socks and also for hats for the decreases at the Crown when you would normally swap from the 16" circulars to dpns.

I use this three needle flex setup to work the decrease rows when making a hat. This works better than DPN’s or magic loop for me. I use various sets of my interchangeable needles to work the cross of my hats.

I use the bamboo Flexi Flips for toes on my socks and I love them. I also have a larger size that I use for the crown for hats, they are wonderful! I use the metal one on the hats but the bamboo for the socks, I like my little needles to be a little grippier. The Bamboo aren't dull but they aren't super pointed either. They also cost a little more than the metal ones. I can see these also being used for the center start for circular shawls :). I haven't tried them yet for thumbs on the fingerless mitts, but only because I haven't knit any since getting them.

I have the Addi Flexi-Flips in US 5, 6, 7, and 8. I make mainly hats, and use them for decreasing the crown. I started out with the US 6, then have added a size every few months. If I were a sock maker, I’d probably go for the Hiya Hiya Flyers, as I prefer a sharp tip for sock yarn.

Yes, they are much less expensive if purchased from a European vendor. But Addi needles sold in North America are distributed by Skacel and manufactured by Addi to Skacel's specifications, so the needles from Europe are not covered by Skacel's warranty service.

I only have one set of the Addi BAMBOO Flexi-Flips which was sold as US size 1, but they are actually 1-1/2 or 2.5 mm. I am using them for making baby socks as my daughter-in-law is pregnant with TWIN BOYS!!! OMG! I do like the Flexi-Flip set I have, they make really nice ribbing and as you pointed out, I am not getting any ladders with them. The tips are a bit more rounded than my ChiaoGoo Mini Twists which I also love, but for the diameter of baby socks, is too small a diameter to use the Mini Twists so I pulled out the Flexi-Flips. I have to admit that they were not a true size 1, American, -- in that I was disappointed, but the baby socks I am making, call for a 1-1/2 US needle. And now that I am use to them, they are the greatest for doing ribbing for me. And that the tips are bamboo for such a small diameter, my stitches are not falling off the tips and I do not get sore fingertips using them which I can with the ChiaoGood Mini Twists. I am an English knitter who flicks but find I am now good at doing ribbing doing Norwegian purl as I like learning new techniques. Don't get me wrong, for doing straight stockinette, I prefer Flicking. Whatever one knows in knitting always will be useful in circumstances you have to pick up stitches in an odd spot which won't work out well right-handed, doing it left-handed may work better or vice versa. And always have loved how you teach and your great reviews are so helpful to me.

I haven't tried those yet. Interesting review and helpful. I started making socks last year. I learned magic loop. I do have issues sometimes with one end and looser stitch. I couldn't help but laugh when you said Chiaogoo ones were "build a bear" style. LOL I only use Chiaogoo. They are my very favorite. I ordered myself the 4 in interchangeable set after owning the 5 in for several years. I LOVE the 4 in set. I didn't realize Chiaogoo had the little connectors to make the flexible dpns. Thanks for the info.

Jennifer Ann Fox Just curious. What made you decide to buy the 4 inch set of the ChiaoGoo interchangeables? I just bought the 5 inch set. I love them but it was a hard choice to make between tip size. Knowing me I’ll get the 4 inch set too!
@jenniferannfox2316

@@theastewart6721 I had the 5 in ones for several years. I got the 4 in because the cords can make 16 in, 22 and 29 or 30 specifically if a project calls for 16 in needles the 5 in kit is not possible. The ability to make sweaters or hats that call for 16 in needles was by itself worth the cost of the 4 in kit. I got mine on Amazon. I couldn't believe that ebay has them for 165.00 and the same kit on Amazon ( by Chiaogoo themselves) was 119.00. I really love Chiaogoo.

Jennifer Ann Fox Thank you for your reply! I did know that with the 5’s you can’t make the 16 inch cord but I like a longer needle. I find in the bigger sizes the 4 inch is a little short for me. That being said, I use 16 inch cords a lot so I’ll probably get the 4 inch tips as well! I hear you about the prices. Amazon is so much cheaper. I have a set of Addi’s that I love and got for a great price on a yarn website which was a shocker as all other sites were extremely expensive. I got my ChiaoGoo on Amazon. I used Addi needles for years... until I discovered Chiao goo. The joins on the Chiao goo needles are, IMO, so much easier to work with. And the points are sharper than even the lace points on the addis. Even on the Addi flexiflips, the stitches always get hung up on the joins. I find it annoying, and it slows me down. I’m not getting rid if the Addis, but I wish the Chiao goos had been around when I bought the flexi flips. (BTW, apropos if nothing, I dislike that name!) And, yes, the Hitahiyas are very sharp!

Hi Stacie, Great info! I’ve been knitting hats this winter and asked DH to pickup a set of the metal FF’s two weeks ago, and I just love them. I have not had any problems at all. I was already a turbo/rockets fan before these came out. I will be looking into getting a better price than what my DH paid at my LYS- $30.00. I choked at that price. They would work similarly to regular DPNs for hat decreases...except one thing. Once you get down to very few stitches, you're going to have stitches on the cord, unless you're careful. That can cause tension issues, like ladders.

I am really frustrated with Addi because all of their needles are so incredibly blunt, even their lace tips. But I love the nickel-plated brass material. If someone made needles with Addi materials and the sharpness of the Hiya Hiya Sharps, I would be very happy. Don't get me wrong, the stainless steel of the Hiya Hiyas is very nice and very slick, but there's something about the Addi needles that made them the most enjoyable for me to knit with.

You can make most of a hat with short circulars, but you'll want to switch to DPNs, flexible DPNs, or magic loop to complete the decreases of the hat at the crown. You can't really work those last few stitches on 16" circulars.

Hi Staci! I’m having a dilemma with a scarf I’m knitting. It’s the Birch trees scarf and everything is fine but I made some sort of mistake at the beginning (fourth row, maybe fifth) and it didn’t throw my stitch count off so I wasn’t aware until just now. It’s driving me crazy knowing it’s there and I completely gave up on it. Is there any way to fix something at the beginning? Or should I just finish it and stop obsessing about it lol? Thank you, I absolutely love watching your videos by the way!!!💕

Hmm...without seeing your work I can't really offer advice. Really, if you can get your stitch count correct to continue working, it's up to you whether you want to live with the mistake or go back and fix it. You can also contact the pattern designer directly for advice.

VeryPink Knits Thank you for responding so quickly!! My husband thinks I’m crazy because it’s “barely noticeable.” He said a mistake would be if it didn’t come out a scarf lol. I think I’ll just carry on with it but I thought I would ask you just in case. I probably wouldn’t trust myself to fix it anyway. There’s yarn overs and decreases and I would most likely make it worse.

Question: would these work for making amigurumi? I make a lot of critters and monsters to donate and some times my hands will ache.

Staci, can you show us how you store all your needles? I have built up a sizeable needle stash over a period of time buying different sizes as and when rather than investing in sets. Just because I couldn’t afford the initial investment and it now means needles are loose and not in pretty cases. How do you suggest storing. Michelle

Most of my needles come in cases, because they're interchangeable sets. For my loose needles, I use needle cases by Della Q, for both circulars and DPNs.

I accidentally stabbed myself in my index finger with my Hiya Hiya Sharps, 3mm. It still hurts. :)))

Staci would these work on gloves?
@verypinkknits

Yes, but a little tricky on the fingers when you have very few stitches. Regular DPNs are a better choice for good tension on the fingers.

Denise needles don’t go below a US 5/3.75mm . Not good for your typical sock knitting. My first interchangeable needle set was Denise.When I first heard about Flexi-flips I realized that I could make them with my Denise needles, sadly, the needle tip size doesn’t go down far enough for anything but bulky weight socks.

Where can I buy the little mini Chiaogoo cords to use with their sock set as you showed? I already own the sock set of needles.

I couldn't find them online right now...they have been on Amazon in the past, but I'm guessing they sold out. I recommend contacting ChiaoGoo directly to find a retailer.
