I use circular needles for straight knitting too. I find it easier to keep the stitches even toward the end of the row. When the fabric starts getting long, I find the weight is also kept evenly distributed on the needles toward the end of the rows.

Nowadays, there is also another way to knit in the round and that is the circular looms, where you can loomknit a hat with garter or stockinete or twisted stockinette stitch.

you only have to knit for stockingette stitches because when you knit tin round, you only see the right side(outside) of the work.

Thank you very much! If you are making a hat, do you need to decrease the number of stiches with each row?

Hi I love knitpicks and I love knitting hats.i have a problem with twisting the sts and how large the hats come out to be.can you recommend needle sizes for making small,medium,large hats.thank you.:-)

if you get the same outcome with this technique and the "magic loop" why would you choose the magic loop? or is the magic loop more suited for really small tubular pieces?
@maryflaum304512 жыл бұрын
I thought that to do the stockinette stitch I had to do one row of knit then one row of pearl. At the end of this video it says just do all knit for that look. I don't understand? thanks for a great video

try swapping hands, if the work is long enough but you just end up with the working yarn in the wrong hand, switch needles to the opposite hands so the working yarn is in the correct hand....

This was a great video! But I have one question: How do you knit if you want to rib on a circular needle? Thanks for your time in advance.
@ilurvemv11 жыл бұрын
I've never knit anything but flat because circular needles overwhelm me but I'm finally ready to try hats. I've watched all your relevant videos. So if I want to knit a stockinette-only hat, I should use the right yarn and right-sized needle, cast on stitches, make sure they're not twisted, keep knitting and then decrease and bind off, right? By the way, what size needle did you use in your making a hat video?

So, does knitting the stockingette stitch in the round, consist of just knitting each round? or is it knit 1 round, purl the next , like knitting on regular needles?

Would the tail start out on the left side (as shown in the video), if I knit continental style?
@curiouserrr15 жыл бұрын
question about needle lengths: The fixed circular needles i have bought have been very confusing as I ordered a length of 18" (and other lengths) but it is really only the length of the cord. It seems ridiculous that they wouldn't supply the actual length of the total piece considering that the diameter of what you're making is what counts. Do u have to order diff size for every hat & how do u know what length you need if they don't tell u the ACTUAL length on the packaging? help please! Thanks!

If your pattern tells you to distribute the stiches over dpns in the middle of a pattern when you're using circular needles, do you just knit one row?
@BOOMPOWbethany14 жыл бұрын
How is this different from knitting in straight needles? If you just keep doing stockinette stitch, wouldn't it just come out like it would on straight needles?

Thank you for sharing this. I have a pattern that calls for me to cast on 131 stitches (for a cowl). I am a beginning knitter. The pattern also calls for US 13 24" circular needle. I will then be doing a seed stitch. Does this change the joining together?

I am SO confused! I'm trying to make a pair of leg warmers for a friend. I found a pattern and got the needles. It tells me to cast on 20 stitches onto a US#17(12MM) I cannot get my working yarn on the right needle to join the round and start the pattern. Help! :)

Is there anything can do if the circumference of the knitting needle is too large?
@knitpicksOfficial11 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much bigger the needle is for the project you are working on. For example, you can use a technique called magic loop in which you use a longer circular needle to knit smaller circumference projects like hats, socks and sleeves of a sweater. You can go to our website and search for "magic loop" under the tutorials section to learn more about this particular technique. Hope this helps!

what about the marker? it just stays there and never moves?
@knitpicksOfficial11 жыл бұрын
The marker moves up with every row. When you get to the marker, all you have to do is simply slip it from the left hand needle to the right. That way you can always keep track of the beginning of your round and the marker moves with your rows.
