Another awesome treat, ladies! I finally learned how to knit socks during the lock down. I’ve knitted over three dozen pairs and only knit it cuff down, like Laura! I should learn how to knit top down and the shadow wrap heel so that it doesn’t interrupt my color with contrasting cuff, heel, and toes with color-striping socks! Yes Kate, I move those skeins just like you described when I have to get something or use the restroom when knitting colorwork! Thanks for the laughs and knitting company as I try to finish knitting sock no. 2 for a very knit worthy friend with a terrible tooth/ear infection! ❤❤

It's all about yarn management when knitting color work...getting yourself set up when you sit down. Then, when you have to get up for a bathroom break or chocolate, (or both, I alway think I might as well while I'm already up 🤣) it's not a big deal to move the yarn cakes around. Thanks for watching!!

I think I would do Julie's Pearson for the KAL--I already have a nice worsted navy yarn for it. I'll have to recalc the gauge since the pattern is written for sport weight. Laura, I have a similar problem knitting socks and it takes me a bit to decide to do them. What I have found when my hands cramp or I have a problem holding the needles is to change from knitting Continental to throwing. I use a 40" US 1.5 circular with sock yarn. I take each sock off and change to 4" dpns to knit the heel and gussets individually and return them to the circular to finish knitting in the round. I have also knit socks using two shorter circs; one for one half of each sock (front needle) and the second for the other half (back needle). The Magdalena pattern is DK, I think. Good to see you all!

Another fabulous episode. Inspiration and enjoyable. For Laura …. I too struggled with the cast on for toe up socks UNTIL I discovered, here on KZbin, Andrea Mowry’s preferred method and video, the Turkish cast on. It’s easier, quick, and transformational. I knit a lot of socks, and prefer cuff down with a shadow wrap heel, but I now don’t shy away from a toe up sock patterns. In fact, Andrea Mowry’s toe up sock patterns are some of my favorite sock patterns to knit. Hope this helps.

Hi from Connecticut. I am currently swatching for the Canale vest in the Myak Kupa. I usually have to go down 2 needle sizes so I will be using sz 1 and 2 needles! I am also reluctant sock knitter Laura - tried toe up as well - not happening. Found I like cuff down heel flap and gusset design. I cannot do magic loop so I do 9" circulars and dpns. My favorite socks I knit are the Simply Skyp socks - used a bouncy heavy sport (socks that rock medium) and they were very enjoyable to knit. Hope to join you on Saturday!

Laura, I am a constant toe-up, two-at-a-time sock knitter. I now use the figure-8 cast on with either 14 or 16 per needle to start. The first three rows are the hardest. Definitely do the shadow wrap heel. I just did it for the first time and a winner.

Hi ladies! I still love the frogs! Laura, I tried two-at-a-time socks but didn’t love that method. Instead. I do them concurrently on 2 sets of needles: cuff 1 then cuff 2, leg 1 then leg 2, etc. I really like it and it seems like I knit them faster.

Kate- you can check the gauge of the Julie Hoover WIP by slipping in onto a barber cord and blocking it. I did this recently with the start of a sweater because I thought I felt my tension changing as I became more comfortable with the pattern. The line in the knitting after you pick up again will disappear when the whole sweater is blocked.

I'm an inveterate sock knitter, top down, and have my personal sock recipe. I knit them on 2 circs, and in tandem (one from each end of the ball and each on its own pair of 2 circs). I knit the cuff of one, then the cuff of the other, then 10 rows of one (or a pattern repeat if not vanilla) then 10 of the other, etc. You can definitely knit them in tandem, rather than TAAT, if you want to avoid second sock syndrome.

Laura, I’m a mom of 3 boys and my youngest (16 years old) loves hand knit socks, especially the merino/nylon base. He has wide feet so he needs a 72 stitch circumference for fingering weight socks. I really like Jane Richmond’s Turkish cast on KZbin video for toe up socks. I usually knit a Fish Lips KISS heel for my son, but currently I’m knitting him some top down socks with a heel flap and gusset just to see if he prefers this type of construction. I gift him a pair of socks every year for his birthday. And I love your Fjolla and would copy your color choice as well.

Excellent episode ladies! Sorry I'm late to the party; I'm usually an immediate viewer! I loved the tips and patterns you shared. In fact, I just purchased the Lenu for me (after I finish baby knitting for late June). Laura, I'm jumping on the bandwagon for comments about the Turkish Cast On. I have been trying to find the "perfect recipe" for socks to turn me into a devoted sock knitter for 3 or 4 years, but there was always something I didn't love. I've finally landed on magic loop with US1 Chiaogoo fixed circulars, two at a time, toe up with Turkish Cast On, Rounded Toe (I hate wedges!), with a forethought heel using German Short Rows and, finally, a stretchy bind off as mine. Now this is for MY foot. I always rethink the recipe if I'm knitting for someone else. Keep on experimenting, and you will find your perfect recipe too.

I’ve been work on the pattern for the modern moc by bekah knits and I have to say that reading this pattern is difficult as the repeats don’t always give you the amount of side stitches as she states in the pattern that you should have. Have you ever run into this problem? I agree that reading the is great advice but with this pattern I’ve really had to read ahead and decide which is more accurate.
@knittingpossect

Hello! I am not familiar with that pattern but I have a few suggestions. First, I would look at the pattern pages on Ravelry and see if other knitters had the same difficulties. I would also check if there are any tutorials on the designer's website or on KZbin. Many designers are also open to answering questions via a DM or email. Last, I would probably frog and re-knit. Sometimes the second time through you read things differently and everything clicks. Good luck! -Kate
