I live and knit in Southern Ontario with my husband and my terrier. The name kuriaknits comes from my last name - Kurian. Kurian has Indian and Syrian origins and I feel lucky every day that my husband shared it with me.

Enjoyed seeing the good buys you got and hearing about the yarn stores. Rhode Island will be my 50th state to visit and when I go I think WEBS needs to be a side trip. Hope the conference goes well and you have a safe trip home.

I live 20 minutes from Webs which is a blessing and a curse lol, it's so fun to see someone talk about going there for the first time! The Cloudborn Fibers brand was a brand by Craftsy when it was rebranded as Bluprint (and they've now gone back to Craftsy) so it's discontinued but Webs got all the leftover stock. I've made several items with Cloudborn yarn and I love it (especially for the price!) so I will be sad when it's gone for good. I have a sweater in the Highland fingering and I love it so I just picked up more the other day too! Safe travels on the rest of your trip :)

I’m Australian and I’ve ordered from Webs before and they have some really good stuff. I have to say my brain has trouble taking in that it’s a real shop as in my mind it’s a shimmering dotcom abstract yarn place! Seeing it is like the website came to life and became sentient! I really enjoyed hearing about your finds, there and elsewhere. I love Woolstok, it’s beautiful to knit with and you are motivating me to knit with it again! And it kind of warmed my heart to learn that your husband is Indian. My Dad is Indian and my mum is a white woman, and we had no Indian relatives here when I was growing up and I felt really strange and different. So hearing of your family, makes me feel “that’s like my family!” The little girl in me loves that so much. And that shrimp curry sounds amazing!

Congrats on hitting 1k subs! It was so interesting to hear about your experiences with the yarn shops you visited. I always had this image in my head that Webs was just a big yarn warehouse, but it's so cool to know they have a shop front similar to a local yarn store, along with the warehouse in the back! Someday I'd love to travel somewhere that has a lot of yarn shops within close proximity - where I live in BC, a lot of yarn shops have closed over the past couple of years unfortunately. But perhaps someday I'll make a trip out to Vancouver to visit the shops out there and make a day trip of it!

I was living in Ithaca NY years ago, and when my parents visited we decided to drive through the Catskill mountains to the Hudson River. Imagine my surprise when we hit the river without crossing the mountains. it turns out my California notion of 'mountain' does not match that of the eastern U.S. The Appalachians/ Catskills are from a truly ancient orogeny, so I should not have been surprised. Definitely felt like hills!

I also live in Massachusetts. I have traveled to Canada as a tourist at least 4 times and going back up in a week. New England, in general, is a very safe and comforting area of the US. Knit New Haven is the LYS to Kevin and Ray of Needles at the Ready podcast. They are great to follow on KZbin. Webs is incredible when I need a sweater’s quantity. I always support local yarn shops when I travel, but honestly, when it comes to sweater or blanket knitting, it is hard to justify the cost when I can go to Webs or order from their website and save so much money. Enjoy your podcast.

I've been watching a lot of your content the last few days and love it!! I go to college close to Northampton and I really enjoy going to WEBS:) It can be so overwhelming to go in, but I really like it!! I contribute the most capitalism when I shop at WEBS(spent over $200 there last semester)

Love Webs but have only seen them in person at a big yarn event here in California. I’ve also bought lots online with them-they have all the great yarns with that great discount. I loved your crocus sweater and am contemplating making it in the Woolstok in that same caste iron color. Enjoy your time in New England-it’s where I grew up and I miss it!

Oh I need to see Erin’s Snow Crocus! It’s been on my list for a long time and I shift between wanting it in a plain natural wool like the original, or a Moninoki yarn combo with mohair. Woolstok is very accessible to me so I want to see how it worked up in this pattern!

@@wavingcat5 I thought about mohair but then wondered if all the stitch definition from the cabales and even the moss stitch would be lost.

I think mohair could work with it! Especially if in a lighter colour. I'll be showing mine off in the next podcast but safe to say I'm in love with the woolstok combo.

Wait, did you use woolstok and mohair on yours?
@kuriaknits
@kuriaknits 2 жыл бұрын
@@crochetingknitter4751 Sorry - just woolstok. But I think a mohair would look good too. It's on a 6mm so you could probably get away with both but I'd likely pair a mohair with a DK.

You should definitely try watching Needles At The Ready podcast...Kevin and Ray are so much fun. They often talk about their LYS, Knit New Haven. In Ridgeway, Ontario there is The Creative Knitter shop....she stocks a yarn called Yarn Hero....it's much like Spincycle...same price but double the grams per skein! Can't wait to give it a try.

I literally just discovered Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok on the weekend! Paid $33/Skein for it but I was pretty sure I would only need 2 skeins for my Felix sweater, so here's hoping! Lol I'm a new knitter, so everything's an experiment at this point😋 I cast on right away and love it! Really enjoying your channel! Hi from way over in the Okanagan Valley, B.C.! :))

Harrisville mills the yarn for Brooklyn Tweed as I understand it which is why they are legit similar. From what I've read, Harrisville wears better.

JaggerSpun is local to me and one of my all time favorite yarns, especially the 3/8 (which I think is what you got). It wears very well and has terrific stitch definition. I do highly recommend washing your swatch and measuring it both before and after washing. Unlike most yarns that relax and stretch when blocked, I find this yarn tightens up (i.e., shrinks) slightly when it blooms. You may need to go up needle sizes to get gauge and you need to "trust the swatch" when knitting, because it may look too big until you wash it. If you end up liking it, you can buy online directly from the mill, either in hanks or cones.
