I've really enjoyed this guide and I love the look it gives the hat. Any suggestions for how many stitches to add to compensate for the decreased stretch of this pattern. If, for instance, my pattern calls for 100 stitches, should I add 20 to the ribbing for compensation?

I noticed that you are knitting through the back loop. Does it make a difference which way you knit?

no, I didn't work through the back loop. Unless a stitch was twisted for some reason, I was knitting "normally".
