I am a continental knitter. It works out great because i am comfortable knitting English, but I can not purl English to save my life. So when I have done corrugated ribbing, I purl continental and knit English. I learned to crochet as a child. As a result, continental knitting came more naturally to me. I am obsessed with watching proficient English knitters though. It is so soothing and mesmerizing to watch. Flicking, and Irish cottage style or lever knitting. I would like to be competent enough at both to avoid muscle fatigue.

I love your videos! You are so honest and genuine. I was an English knitter... and I got bored during the lockdowns... so I taught myself to continental knit. I am You Tube certified! 😂 I also learned to combination knit. I know... pretty exciting stuff. Ha ha...

I hold my yarn in my left hand . I hated doing purls , I would do it like you did my pinching the yarn and wrap. Then I found the answer, Norwegian knitting. It was hard at first but once I got it I loved doing purls . I can hold the yarn in my right hand but it is very hard for me . Took me a while to get it . If you want to learn Norwegian knitting check out Arne and Carlos . Yes I had to slow it down to get it but it didn’t take but a couple of try’s and it was like magic. And Arne can fly when he knits , but he does slow done to show us how .

I’m going to have a go at this lovely sweater although I’m quite nervous about it! I know your tutorials and encouragement will be so very helpful! Love your colours! I’m using some from stash which I think will work OK. Thanks Jana!

Looks like this project will be on hold for me for a bit…I made my swathes (got gauge with recommended needle size) and I’ve knit the 12 rows of corrugated rib plus a few rows of body but the yarn I got is leaving raw spots on my hands. The yarn is scratchy and hard and I don’t think there will be any skin left on my hands if I try to finish this sweater using it. I’ve ordered some softer yarn (main color) & I’m hoping to use all the Purl Together kit contrasting colors (they seem to be slightly softer than the main color of Charcoal)…then I’ll start all over again 😞

That's how I cast on, too! It's how I was taught when I first learned to knit when I was 7, and I've never met anyone else who does it that way. And that was a lonnnng time ago.

Yes, that's how I also learned to cast on when I was 4 or 5. And I still do it that way for a long tail cast on. I learned from my aunt who was born in 1907. She learned to knit as a child knitting bandages for World War One.

Norwegian purling might be useful for the contrasting color.

I'm just starting my corrugated ribbing but when I start the second color and purl into the purl below, I get a purl bump of the second color. It's not too obvious but I'm not sure if that's right. Or is my color choice too different and I should choose another color. I have turquoise next to amethyst.
@PurlTogether
@PurlTogether Жыл бұрын
You are doing it correctly. Your color choice is certainly personal preference, but I choose to put the turquoise at the end of the sequence. I have listed the order in which I chose to use the colors in the Notes section of my Ravelry project page. www.ravelry.com/projects/JanaKnitsalot/ripples

I'm allergic to animal fur. Any suggestions on what yarn to use for this one?
@PurlTogether
@PurlTogether Жыл бұрын
Wool is very different than other animal fur. It also may depend upon the breed? As for substitutions, I’d look for maybe a bamboo blend? I have not worked with that though, so I’m not I’d also seek suggestions at your local yarn store where you can touch and feel their options.
