Hello friends! During the month of October we knit socks. Because October means #Socktober as well. A couple of weeks ago you saw me spin a blend of alpaca, wool and acrylic into the epitome of chaotic sock yarn. In today's video we shall knit up the yarn we made into a pair of knee high socks with a vintage lace pattern. This was some serious happy knitting and I have got the vlog to prove it!
Over on my Patreon we participate in what I have called 'Spoocktober', because I am aware not everyone of my audience is a spinner or a knitter. Spoocktober is open to any kind of craft, as long as it is vaguely spooky or autumny. Just whatever you feel like making along in October!
If you want to join in on the chaos, you can join the patreon via: / mijnwolden
You can also find me on Ravelry and Instagram as @MijnWolden

Of course you already saw the socks I made, but I am currently working on a hexagon sweater for my daughter. The front and back panels are done, and I'm a short way up one sleeve. I still need to spin more yarn for it though... And of course I have a few other WIPs I am also working on 😂

That yarn is soo pretty! And the socks look so squishy soft in a way I didn't really think lace could do. I finished my first ever pair of socks on the 30th and went right into sock number 3. The first pair turned out really well, but they're not for me. And neither is the second pair. I'm making coordinating socks for my little brother and sis-in-law using two vintage heelless patterns. Because you CAN have socks without heels! (They both have a spiral rib to help with fit.)

Awesome socks! 😍 One of my fun Spooktober projects was painting roses and a tiny skull on the ring finger nail of my righthand (I’m a leftie)… and heading to the office with it. The trick was to find out how long it would take people to notice, to recognise, and to comment. That was fun! 😂

I like to knit socks two at a time on a circular with a long cable. I do it with the "magic loop". Otherwise, I will have second-sock syndrome for sure! Also, I can make adjustments to BOTH socks as needed for sizing. I absolutely LOVE that yarn you used! A beautiful example of handspun!!!

Your socks are wonderful! I love the lace pattern and the chaos colors coming and going are gorgeous! They look fab with the shoes you wore in the video. I did indeed finish a pair of shorty socks for Socktober. I’m now knitting mittens, a pair each for two friends. After sock knitting on 2.25 mm needles, using these big needles and worsted weight yarn means the knitting is flying. I think they will definitely be finished in time for holiday giving. harpingJanet

Hi! I do indeed knit quite differently. It is called the Eastern Uncrossed way of knitting, and essentially I'm knitting through the back loop all the time. I have a video on how I got to this type of knitting ("Do I knit wrong?"). It does feel quite fast and efficient to me, and the motions are pretty small.

@@MijnWoldenoh no! Use those blankets please! In storage they will only fade from memory and if you're very unlucky they will be eaten by moths or the colors may fade with time. I hade my first blanket stored in the attic and it turned out our cat could reach it and scratch it apart. I learned the hard way to actually use my blankets and not be to scared to ruin them because even in storage they can get ruined.

I knit my socks toe up with a similar cast on but you figure eight the yarn around the two needles. That yarn turned out beautiful! It always surprises me with my handspun when I think it will knit up a certain way and it doesn’t. Handspun is the best kind of yarn 🧶 Grandma’s book is a treasure. My first few pairs of socks I used patterns only, now I have become more adventurous and wing it. Lol Are you using 3 pairs of circular needles? My hands tend to cramp a bit with one pair of 9 inch circulars.

Oops I forgot about socktober! Ive been in sweater town... Your socks came out so sweet! I too have sock slipping problems; Ive been wondering if tying a ribbon around the top like they did in the 18th century (i think) would help. I've been meaning to try. I recently got a bunch of rya locks dyed with copper and onion skins that were so beautiful I had to start on them as soon as I could so thats so thats my current project; spinning a sweater quantity of this rya, linen, camel down and silk blend Ive concocted. Gonna spin some white merino (also blended with linen and silk probably) to go with it and do a stranded yoke sweater.

This is not helping my desire to cast on more socks 😂 stop, i do not need this right now 😅 I made some neon argyle socks in pink/green with purple toes and heels (and extra purple on one sock before the toe because i ran out of yarn). Not for socktober, just a coincidence. Also, i have been using drawstrings on my knit trousers and that really helps keep things up, so if you are struggling with your socks you could thread a string to tie with a bow just below the cuff (i have used a braided strand or an icord and both worked great!)
