How to knit the Traveling Vine stitch.

++ Techniques used in this pattern:
Knit: K | Purl: P | Yarn over: Yo
Knit through the back loop: K1-b.
Knit 2 sts together: K2tog | Slip slip knit: Ssk.
Purl 2 sts together: P2tog | Slip slip purl through back loop: Ssp.

So I did 68 stitches at the start and completed two full sets of rows 1-12. After these 24 rows, I was left with 64 stitches. Is this pattern expected to drop stitches or have I made an error? and if so, how would you suggest keeping consistency in the width of the pattern (i.e. how would you add in more stitches)?

I feel something is wrong ... the first row generates more stitches than the initial. because the repeat should be 8 stitches. but what they do is 9 stitches/ YO, K1,YO,SSK,K5.

when repeating the rows and it says last 8 its in row 8 do you finish repeats or stop in middle of repeats to do p2tog p6
