Watched your sock series... You explained and demonstrated everything so very clearly and your finishing off was perfect... My old Turkish aunties used to sit cross legged on the floor gossiping and making socks... I couldn't get the hang of the heel at all... thank you for clarifying it.

FANTASTIC JOB NATALIE!!! I’m actually doing my first afterthought heel right now and your timing couldn’t be more perfect for me! 😁 Everything was very clearly explained and the camera was focused well. I’m so glad I watched this. I don’t remember seeing an explanation (on other videos) about toe-up vs cuff-down positions and direction of the needles for each type...seems like it’d be something super important to know. Well done!

Thank you, I just so loved your video and so easy. It seems I used two lines of waste yarn for side of stitch pick up. Then went one and no go using this method with DPN's. I will give the circular a try and also have the two lines not four on my second sock to practice a toe up.

What a great tutorial, thank you so much for your clear instructions, particularly for the Kitchener stitch. I’ve tried to learn how to do it over the years and always to refer to written instructions or KZbin. This time, I feel confident I’ll get it because of your tip - start with a Knit on the knit side and Purl on the purl side. I normally knit TAAT toe up but haven’t tried the afterthought heel to avoid the Kitchener stitch! Thanks again.

Loved your tutorial. I learned so much. The only suggestion I have is try to get used to adding a stitch to prevent holes in your heel. When I saw how much time it took you to try to work out the holes I appreciated very much that I learned to add a stitch so I didn't have to do that. Thank you so much for your clear explanation of the kitchener stitch.

Thanks for a really nice video on toe-up socks. I would love to try this. I have been trying to master cuff down 2 at a time on 2 circulars and I am just about there. I want to make another pair or two before venturing on to toe up. I don't want to lose my mojo on it. (It's happened before!) I will probable do 2 at a time toe ups as well. It's a great way to make socks. No counting rows!

Thank you, Natalie! I have knit heel flap socks before and they always confound me and I can't seem to get a good fitting sock. This tutorial was the best. Since I have a thin ankle I use a Size 0 needle and I realize I need to do fewer stitches because I made shorty socks, but other than that, this tutorial was great. Do you plan on writing up a pattern? If not, I will just make notes. Thank you again! You're an amazing teacher!

One question, when you finish the decreases for the heel, do you still do 1 round of knit before the kitchener stitch? I just want to clarify. Because for the toe, you specified to still do 1 sound of knit after the last decrease round. Thanks!
@KnittyNatty
@KnittyNatty 4 жыл бұрын
Jenn Crafts that’s a really excellent question! Since I started the heel with a knit round, I ended the heel with a decrease round. However, I think I’m going to contradict my past video self and say it might be better to start the heel with a decrease round (rather than the one plain knit round) and end with a plain knit round. This might help with gaps in the corners and make kitchener easier. However you choose do it, just make sure it’s the same on both socks and you’ll be good!

OH this tutorial is absolutly amazing! I need to ask tho, I didn’t get the decreases for toe up. How many stitches will I have to decreases? If It’s cuff down then down to 20 (10+10). But you mention it’s Different for toe up.

Am I seeing things wrong? When she is picking up stitches on the frost needle, the first two do look like she is picking up the right side of the stitches, but then it looks like she is picking up the LEFT side as she moves the first needle to the end of the sock. Am I crazy? (Well, sort of), I have watched this section of the afterthought heel several times and looks strange to me.

Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Can you clarify how to measure the length I need to knit for my foot before I start the toe? You mentioned 2 inches less. If my foot measures 9 inches, am I knitting 7 inches from where I place my waste yarn for the heel? Doesn't the heel add length to the foot? I have seen others mention to knit 4 inches less than total foot length. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have never done this type of heel. You are a good instructor and easy to understand.
@KnittyNatty
@KnittyNatty 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct! I apologize for not making that clearer. The 2" less would include the heel AND foot knitting. So that would make the actual foot knitting portion about 3.5-4" less than your total foot length. The best way to know for sure is to knit a sock cuff down and halfway through the foot, knit in the heel. Then you are able to try the sock on with the heel attached. You would only need to do this for your first sock, because for the second sock you would be able to count rounds for the foot. I hope that helps!

Hi Natalie. I’m working on my toe up, after thought heel socks. I’m wondering how many grams of yarn I should save for the heels. I would like to make my socks as tall as possible.
@KnittyNatty
@KnittyNatty 4 жыл бұрын
Yay! I would save 6 grams per heel. I believe it takes me 3-4 grams per heel for a 60 st sock, so with 6 grams you'll have a little extra just in case!
