This is fabulous stuff! The sound resembles Desmond's great Canadian quartet without imitating them! Outstanding!

Yes....those Canadian recordings with Ed bickert is a supreme collection of great music ..very rare to find such playing and gems ... Delighted to hear this new band bent on real pure music and bit show off like 80percent jazz musicians do

Jensen threw in a phrase from "Star Eyes." Desmond did stuff like that. Creative flight of fancy.

Jensen took lessons from Lee Konitz, a "white" bebopper from NY. Konitz is still going at age 94!

@bjensenjazz4 жыл бұрын
A Vandoren V16 5M with V16 strenghth 3 reeds on a Yani AW01 alto. I’ve since changed horns (Selmer Mark VI) reeds (Rigotti 3.5M) and mouthpiece (Meyer G, 5)

Thanks @@bjensenjazz , And do you still get this desmond's sound with the Meyer G 5??
@bjensenjazz4 жыл бұрын
@@brunoholzberg Yes. I think the Meyer G is a little closer to Desmond’s sound than the Vandoren V16

@@cooljazzr yeah ik, I think I interpreted it as a jab on the guy for using a charlie parker lick. don't know why I did that though

The later Desmond stuff with Ed Bickert struck me as slightly desultory. Don't know why. Thus, I tend to like Jensen a bit better. More SPUNKY! More fun. (Desmond's best stuff was in the 1950's, I feel.) Excellent photography and sound!

This guy's improvising is as good as it gets, very impressive! It would be pretty strange if Paul Desmond was on the session though wouldn't it? this guy has completely stolen his sound LOL

The tone might bear some resemblance to Desmond's, in that it is smooth and darkish. However, other than a fair amount of lyrical playing, the musical ideas are mostly not reminiscent of Desmond's style. There is a fair amount of bebop in there, which is not much in evidence in Desmond's playing.
