Pete takes us into the Lizard room to collect some fresh eggs laid by one of his beautiful knob tailed geckos. Knob tailed geckos are endemic to Australia, usually inhabiting some of the drier regions of Australia. We learn how to find the eggs, handle them and set them up for incubation.

The lizard had made all of these modifications to her absolutely lovely habitat in order to prepare a suitable area to incubate her eggs. As she was pleased with her deposition site, what is your reasoning behind removing them for artificial incubation? You gave her all of the components to create a more natural scenario, but prefer to remove her from the process. I reckon she was attempting to show you how much she is enjoying the larger enclosure, by making full use of the facilities. If cannibalism is an issue with adults when they hatch, it would make more sense to move the older lizards out for a couple or three days around that time, which would be of minimal disturbance (instead of a 52 day egg relocation period). You may have tried in situ process before & have other reasons for your current procedure.

Heating to these cages is from below the tank via heat cord so the eggs would be exposed to higher temps then expected in the wild and would prohibit the eggs from goi g full term. That's why we artificial incubate the knobbies eggs
