Wish I lived close by, could solve the small tree issue you mentioned in a couple of hours. Since I don't I'll try to explain. Get 2 lengths of pipe with a diameter slightly shorter than the length of the bucket teeth. Use 1/2 to 3!4" plate 8" wide , step in 2" from both edges, cut 4" teeth in plate like so VVVVVVVVV you now have 2 pieces, weld each to pipe. Cut holes in each pipe to correspond to teeth on bucket and thumb. Weld heavy chain to pipe to anchor to bucket. You now have easily removable fitted fine tooth jaws to rip out the small stuff. Not being able to put a tape on the bucket and teeth, you understand those measurements are all estimated, but I'm betting your welder could whip that up in no time. Love your clearing and beaver dam videos. Keep them coming!

I didn't realize how much bigger the 250 was compared to the 160 until I saw them parked next to each other and saw them from the sky. That 250 is a beast.

Hey Chris ,from the drone shots it looks like you are working on a golf course,it looks like there are lots of fairways in among the trees.Your project is looking good as always,thank you for taking the time and effort to produce these videos.stay safe ,cheers and beers from Aus

The drone shows the field next door with the poles (that Chris put in a year back) that are for an orchard/vineyard(?). I'm guessing some of the lake water will be to irrigate them. The map in the intro to this job also showed a wedding platform next to lake.

Maybe try to use a mulcher or similar device on the small trees? just turn them into wood chips.
@johnleake7085 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, the new loader appears to work well for you. The trees are definitely small on that property for your area. The relatively large oak you pulled out about 8 minutes into the video looked like it had a shallow root system due to "hard pan" which is most likely the cause for the small trees.

The drone footage makes it look like the dam will be pointed towards the road at an angle. Whereas with the original overhead shot, I thought the dam would be mostly parallel with the road. Kind of amazing how it changes once you remove the trees. good water flow too, may be a pain to work with but good for the pond.

HA ! having the camera going gives you something to talk to , I know sitting in a cab all day gets kinda boring.... I too get kinda loopy when I mow road ditches for 10 hrs straight going 2.5 to 3 MPH. but I do find quite a few interesting things in the ditches.... you do good work there Mr. Magoo...
@thederrick19665 жыл бұрын
that's going to be a big pond !
@waltermattson55665 жыл бұрын
That was a great video. I didn’t realize how much bigger the 250 is until I saw the drone footage. For getting the dirt off the stumps would it be feasible to build something heavy with a few very heavy duty arms sticking out theat you could just rub the stump against a few times? You could just use it on jobs when the dirt really sticks to the roots or have the other excavator do it after you dig them out.
@randymaylowski24855 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris! for that small brush trees, what yer having problems with, can you try to use a brush hog if that would help? After you get all the medium big trees out, what they want out. But good work.

To bad you can't haul the muck from the lake out with cement trucks as they already have to move a wet slurry.

Do you have to notch the dam? What kind of drone do you have?
@benrandomly20165 жыл бұрын
I looked up what constitutes a lake. Here is the simple definition. There is no size limit but the body of water must meet this criteria. "A lake would be sufficiently large enough and deep enough to create wave action that would sweep at least part of the shore free of vegetation."
@letsdig185 жыл бұрын
Its not a lake until its over 10 acres here LOL
@garyduncan37655 жыл бұрын

I use what they call a “ratchet rake “ it just gets strapped onto the front of the skid steer and it works grate for all that little shit look it up it’s cheap also
@brentcos93705 жыл бұрын
Question from a noob: Why could you not use a big dozer to do the clearing vs. the excavator? I know you said you tried a dozer but it didn't work. Curious. Great vid!
@parkermichael6205 жыл бұрын
You need a mulching attachment for that or the skid steer take care of those small tree quick fast and in a hurry.
@TheBrushcutter5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I don't know, those things leave a mess of shredded slivers, and depending on how long it takes for the pond to fill they would dry and form a floating mess on the surface of the water. I think, it would be fast though.
@HDWRIGHT4095 жыл бұрын
He really needs to put at least a 3-foot Dia culvert pipe in the center of that road at the spring or over time it will stop up and be a pain to keep cleaned out. been there, done that

Now that you have the 250 does that mean the 220 is going to be like the 160 were everyone runs it?
@keithbrettell20585 жыл бұрын
When you're doin' a project this big, with an irregular shape, do you have a perimeter line to follow or is it just figure it out as a you go?
@RangieNZ5 жыл бұрын
Is going to be a lake. You keep hearing Chris saying 'shooting levels' - i.e. use a laser to set heights, then work to those. Watch the earlier videos too.
@MostelsRoofing5 жыл бұрын
Keith Brettell follows the grade as water will be all the same level at any given point
@keithbrettell20585 жыл бұрын
I've watched the other videos, does 'set the heights, then work to those' affect the shape? I guess to some extent it does, but it seems like it would be really easy to clear too many trees and then you've got an open area that was supposed to be trees.
@TheBrushcutter5 жыл бұрын
@@keithbrettell2058 the contour of the land at full pool is what ultimately determines the shape of any body of water. If you look at topographic maps the little red lines show what a pond would look like in hilly terrain.
@jamesspires80965 жыл бұрын
No silt fence along the creek?
@TheBrushcutter5 жыл бұрын
That would be useless, he's building a pond. Maybe a temporary one at the end where the dam would be, but it looks to be a small creek and if there is no rain in the forecast, again not necessary.
@timfreeman4765 жыл бұрын
Do they have to get permits for ponds?

That is now the end of that stream. Whoever lives downstream can kiss their stream goodbye. That pond will require a lot of water to fill and it will lose a tremendous water due to evaporation. This is why people down steam hate when people upstream put in ponds, etc.

Was I seeing right The 250 is a third bigger than the the 220? Saw that on aerial shot. At 72 gave my DJI Phantom 2 to my son, looking at DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, it's half the size, better video.
