0:39 Tip for your 960 game here that DK rightfully points out: With the regular setup, the Q begins centralized and easily maneuverable. Being spoiled this way, new 960 players fail to appreciate the value in this. In 960, it's imperative to consider the Q as a piece in need of development and increased scope. We're rarely dynamically down a Q in regular chess, but in 960, being dynamically down a Q bc her dev wasn't prioritized is frequently an insta-loss, like failing to castle. Magnus' early 960 days were characterized by an almost paranoid sense of this. He played as if Q dev were of paramount priority almost.

Best commentary for 1000-2000 players and DK's inimitable British charm puts him on top. He's been my favorite forever now. I like the others well enough (except Levy, whom I can't stand), but DK is the best. I like Naka's serious commentary when he's one of the players of the commentated game as you get an inside view into all facets like history, theory, psychology, emotions, intuition, actual lines players consider, etc.

@@ClarkPotter this is my favorite channel too, by far. I just don't really get why it should be 1000-2000 rating only...I'm enjoying this channel a lot, Mr. King is a fantastic commentator and not only beginners/club players are well served. He gives great insights for all and don't be fooled by the acessible commentary he says really deep things that goes on any level. I'd say a channel perhaps from 1400-2500 or better put...for everyone that loves chess, excluing noone.

Just shows how utterly critical the Queen is to chess. While it doesn't necessarily have to move right away, if it can't move at all, that's an enormous problem that Keymer simply didn't appreciate.

A really fine win by aronian and a great explanation.Thanks Daniel.

Not surprising that Aronian turns out to be good at a variant of chess that puts less emphasis on theory.
@omenoflaherty12948 ай бұрын
This is why we need 960 in modern chess. This type of game is impossible with memorized engine lines and theory. It makes the game fun again.
@jodymccullough58918 ай бұрын
He already had a good position, but this is how Aronian plays when he is playing well. He doesn't care too much about pawns, and trusts his own judgement of the position. I wish he could be a little more consistent but when he is on form he can beat anybody and his good games are always fun to watch.

I didn't think Bg5 was a good defense to Qh4+, because Nxe6 is check, and the e6 knight is the only piece defending g5, but I probably missed something
@yanair20918 ай бұрын
Yes, you missed that Daniel literally said: ".., there is suddenly threat to check on h4 winning the bishop. (@ 6:44)
@patrickdaly10888 ай бұрын
@@yanair2091 Thanks for the response, but I was referring to a few seconds earlier, 6:40 his "At the moment there is no threat because of Bg5," but I thought there was a threat, because if black plays something like Qg3 Ra7(missing the threat) Qh4+ Bg5 Nxe6+ (something takes e6) Qxg5.

It was a superb match. MC's determination was, as ever, extraordinary. I'll be posting a video very shortly on the bishop versus knight endgame.

Interesting. You'd think the older guy with more (opening) experience would lose some of the advantage going from regular to chess960. But Aronian (a fellow 1983 boy like me) was repping the old guard well!

I wondered about ...Bf2 and ...O-O in the middle there, to get the King out of the center. Black's pieces are still not on the best squares but seems to get the King out of the immediate line of fire.

Even a 2000 rated patzer like me can see those raking laser beam bishops have to strike first. Get into Morphy mode and rapid development of your pieces. A lovely attacking miniature from Aronian. Great analysis Daniel. Thanks

Its obviously. The center is still very important and that your pieces have mobility. Nothing to do woth "normality" but mlre with generalities

There should be a could reason to put your knights before your pawns. In 960 it is _sometimes_ justified. Wasn't here, though.
@TheChessRunner8 ай бұрын
In the regular starting position knights have clear best squares(not blocking any other piece, except queen which is anyway very free). In 960 is often less clear what is the natural square. D6 doesn't feel at all natural square at all. B6 can be more natural, but is vulnerable to a4/a5

I don't know, I think "beginner" was an appropriate description of Keymer's play in this game. And I thought it was my job to be harsh with the comments. ;) Semi-finals should be great.
