Follow us on Twitter / themeparkreview and Facebook / themeparkreview - This is one of the first ever POVs shot on Twister at Knoebel's on 7/24/1999. Probably from one of the first ten trains ever to be dispatched! You can see how new it looks, and even the transfer track to the left of the station wasn't even built yet!

For the longest time, I thought this was a C.C.I. coaster from the layout. But, when I found out it was built in-house. That amazed me! Thank you Knoebels, for making two of the best woodies ever!

I finally understand why, with me being really afraid of heights (I am talking dizziness, puking and even passing out) why I can ride wood coasters but not steel ones.....duuuhhhh...the wood structure all around makes it "feel" more safe to me. Trust me, I do NOT do well with heights at all but at Kennywood Park, I can ride The Racers and The Rabbit. When I was younger I DID ride the corkscrew at Cedar Point but about lost it....watching these vids has really opened my eyes to WHY I can ride the wooden ones but not the new steel ones. I hope the continue to make the wood ones so people like me to enjoy riding coasters too. It sucks having this phobia....trust me......

Well, when you think about it, Space Mountain in California kinda does the same thing with it's folded lift hills, it's just harder to notice because it's in the dark.

I remember the first year this ride opened, for going there every summer back in the 90's/00's, I must say this was the most highly anticipated attraction for the park in so many years. Seeing it under construction with the cranes from the covered bridge over the creek was just as exciting.. We had never seen such a huge ride squeezed into the park before! To this day I have to say I've always been a huge fan of this coaster. It definitely packs a punch, but it grows on you quick. And now Flying Turns has finally joined the pack. Good ole' Knoebels, a real place for some good memories. :)

I remember riding Twister back in 1999, pretty sure we went in August. I loved it after the first ride, it was FAST, full of g forces, and just great fun. Hard to believe it's already 15 years old!! I was only 7 when I rode it for the first time and now at age 22, after riding many more roller coasters, it's still one of the best woodies I've ever been on along with the Phoenix. They both have their own thrills and unlike many wooden coasters out there, are VERY well maintained. I ride them both countless times when I go to Knoebels and Flying Turns is just plain cool. I've only been on that 3 times due to long lines but I really enjoyed it, hopefully the lines will die down next year with the opening of Impulse! Can't wait for that!

This has me teared up a bit. This is the moment the Knoebel's family knew that the Twister would be a success. Been going a long time, it's probably my favorite place on Earth.

these rollercoaster videos from the 90s and early 2000s are great, brings me right back to childhood. a lot of these wooden rides are now demolished so it's cool to relive it, vhs quality and all. or maybe he had one of those cassette mini vhs recorders, forget the name. ether way, I'm on a binge of this stuff thanks for posting them, subbed.

worth it. Free parking and no admission gates into the park. Saves you a ton when you want to ride a ride. I think it costs like 2 dollars to ride this (might be more). Its very worth it but it will put your guts in your throat.

With minor alterations this was Mr. Twister in Denver Colorado, for many years, until the park moved to a new location, when it opened as Twister 2. As Twister 2 it kept the signature first hill, but, took out the double circle, it was no longer the same coaster and not quite as crazy, Mr. Twister was incredible. This looks like an improved version of Mr. Twister, but without the tunnel.
@SeekerLancer
@SeekerLancer 5 жыл бұрын
Twister II isn't a relocation, it's a different ride based on Mr. Twister. Mr. Twister had deteriorated too much to be rebuilt. Knoebels was initially interested in moving Mr. Twister like it did The Rocket but its condition was too far gone. You'll be pleased to know there's a "golden bolt" on Twister that came from the original coaster to honor its memory.

for those who have not rode this ride keep in mind there was a profile change to the track section entering the double Helix. It is pitched at an angle of about 50º now, this was done by GCI of Sunbury, PA and was done to keep down on how much that section of track was damaged over the course of a season. (from 1999 til 2013), it was literally rebuilt every single year. Refer to 1:31 - 1:35 to know the section I am talking about
@mhtube01
@mhtube01 6 жыл бұрын
Gary Ugarek I never knew that GCI did that, I thought they just redesigned it finally. I was so glad when they did that because it used to throw you to the right pretty violently. That was the one design flaw with this ride. It's so much better now that they've perfected it.
@SeekerLancer
@SeekerLancer 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I have noticed it's been a lot smoother in recent years probably because it's not getting so chewed up throughout the season. I wish they'd work with GCI on a full project!

@mhtube01
@mhtube01 9 жыл бұрын
+Fluffle Puff That's weird. Usually they'll ask everyone to wait a few minutes and send the train out empty and stop it on the chain lift, then they'll put the other one on. Then they'll send both for a test run. That's what I've seen Knoebels do at least. I haven't seen them do it to Twister before but Phoenix I have several times.
@flufflepuffle6229
@flufflepuffle6229 9 жыл бұрын
mhtube01 Nah, they've stopped Twister on the hill, loaded, pretty much every time I've seen them do it. Probably because it's a little bit faster than waiting for the 2 trains to make the circuit again.
@mhtube01
@mhtube01 9 жыл бұрын
Wow that's unusual, I've never seen a park do that. The Phoenix I always see them send the train that's already on the track up on the lift hill empty, then put the second one on. The Twister is a longer ride though so I could see why they do that.
