Good luck tying the Rebeck knot on a hollow body frog, spinnerbait, crankbait, popper, jerkbait, or any other lure without a hook shank. While it may not be AS strong as the Rebeck knot when compared to use on a hook shank, the palomar is still an excellent knot with enough strength for anything you want to use it for. Not as strong as the Rebeck as demonstrated by this video, however the Rebeck is not versatile. Unless you fish exclusively soft plastics, this knot isn't practical for most fishing applications. The only thing you can use it for is attaching a hook to a main line. We catch Marlin and sharks on the Palomar knot and we also tie it in under 10 seconds.

I'm not convinced the rebeck is stronger than the palomar. I'd have to see him tie both knots.

if neither of the knots broke, but the fishing line broke instead, which appears to be the case, then it is not a measure of knot strength. I'd ask why your fishing line is so variable in strength.

If the tag loop of a palomar know does not clear the knot body, like you graphic showed, it will be left cutting and break quite easily.

watching the test if he knot tieing the knot right it still out do all the other knots on just a pull test....I have always tied the trilene knot all my life before they ever came out with it....this is the way of the south knot but this new line out the other knot is better to teach cause it works on every type of line

Art Whitting You're right. Also if the side by side lines going through the hook eye are crossed they will cut into each other and the knot will fail.

In the end whether you tie a palomar or a uni you are good I like the uni cause it is a little easier when using a lure with a treble hook

i either tie Uni or snell, never had a knot break. only the line getting snipped by pike.

The tag end of popular fishing knots is great for catching vegetation. How about a knot that leaves tag end facing the hook so it doesn't catch weeds.

The uni knot, especially if wrapped around the eye of the hook twice, is just as strong, maybe even stronger

my knot broke on a monster yesterday it cause I got in a big hurry to tie the knot an not get it right I know that's what happen must not made sure the knot was over the hook an the hook cut the line... I catch huge fish with very small line an knot never fells was the first time in very long time the knot broke
