Great video my ten year old and I just watched it and practiced tying it. Great demo. We did it around 2 fingers instead of the whole hand and it worked well like that too with the rope we had. Thanks.

A stopper knot is tied at the end of a rope to prevent the rope from slipping through a belay device when climbing or from slipping through a small hole to help retain a rope like a recoil rope on a lawn mower. Just a few examples. Thanks for the question.

It’s also called a barrel knot A similar knot tied around the standing part is called a scaffold knot or fisherman’s knot

If you have a very small diameter rope, you can make your wraps around 2 fingers instead of your palm.
