Born and bred in Lancaster. Yes always known of Knott End. Lovely cycling around the area. I get there most weeks. I’d love to have an elevated home on the Esplanade watch the shipping approaching the Ports of Heysham and Fleetwood.

Interestingly, the Lancashire crime writer George Bellairs (real name: Harold Blundell), set one of his crime novels there: “Death Drops the Pilot” in which Chief Inspector Littlejohn and his sidekick Sergeant Cromwell investigate the death of the ferry captain. The names of the place were changed, but there’s doubt when you read the book of where it is set. Fleetwood becomes Falbright; the River Wyre, the River Hore; Knott End, Elmer’s Creek; the Bourne Arms, the Barlow Arms; the Wyre Rose, the Falbright Jenny; Pilling, Pullar Sands and Preesall, Peshall. The novel was published in 1956, so probably Knott End has changed lot since then. It says in the book that the Barlow Arms dominated the village.

never ever build a bridge to fleetwood , it would ruin our crime rate
