There is a page in the book that tells you the size of the dino in 4 different weights of yarn. The size depends on the yarn weight or # on the skein. The ones in the book pictures are made with Super bulky weight chenille yarn. You just need to write down what you are using and make some notes on the sizes you like best.

It's really hard to get nice plushie yarn in Australia. I am addicted now to making these. 😆
@Lorrainebreternitz11 ай бұрын
I love seeing how everyone else’s mama made minis loveys turn out! Your chick is super cute variegated! I’ve done the fawn, fox, rabbit and chick so far. I actually made the modified chick into a penguin and it turned out great! I used the knot-free mod for the legs as penguins don’t have knees! I have only used Bernat Blanket with the recommended hook sizes and they come out pretty close to the measurements in the book. I haven’t had any issues with starting in the middle front of one of the legs. I just make sure there are 14 stitches in the round on either side. I did have to do a few extra SC shift stitches (2 or 3) on the Penguin feet to bring it to the side to close. My next ones will be Hippo and the Unicorn. Someone posted a hippo in pink and now I NEED to make one! I can’t wait to finally try the Premier Basix Chenille. I was finally able to order some since it took forever for them to restock the good colors! I really want to try one in the Posh now that I’ve seen how yours turned out! I thought it would come out too small, but that’s a good size!
@KnottingHookCrochet11 ай бұрын
Where did you get the knot free mod? I’m working on the unicorn now and it’s the first one that my last stitch ended in the correct spot to start the legs. I think it might have something to do with the way I’m attaching to the head.
@Lorrainebreternitz11 ай бұрын
@@KnottingHookCrochet I sent you a message on Instagram with the info on the Penguin modification since that is where they posted it. As for the leg stitch placement, I always start the foundation body stitch where they do in the instructions they have in the front of the book. 🤷🏼♀️

To add to my previous comment, the bobbles on the lamb's head make it quite dense. I did use a 7 mm. When making the body, I thought the heavy head made crocheting rather awkward, so I'll be doing future loveys with separate heads and bodies, then sewing on.

How funny, I think sometimes we are on the same wavelength. After we spoke the other day I said I would start with the frog first I had the same dilemma as you with colors. I chose to do the chick first and I used the bernet speckle black/white and then a terra-cotta for the beak and feet since those colors sell well for my hen pattern from Oak & Marllow and he turned out really cute! I’m working on the unicorn now and I’m using white and pale yellow from bernet baby blanket yarn. Also I’m using a number 7 on the head but a number 9 on everything else. Oh how I wish she didn't like elephants!! LOL😂😂😂 I've been crocheting for 50+ yrs and I'm having a few problems with the directions. Some rows, I'm doing what I think is better, my trunk turned out upside down.. So I ripped it out and did it my own way. How do I continue onto row 2, do I slip stitch then continue around 1 leg or do I spin it around and go back the other way? I’m assuming the legs are done separately? Please help, a video would be great to watch if anyone has any suggestions, I’m stuck!!!!

I got the book late in December and finished one lovey. I decided that I wouldn't worry too much about matching the colours chosen in the book. I can't get that specific yarn right now so I went with the Bernat. I made the lamb in the 2nd largest size and it turned out 17inches long which is an inch longer than the book's size. I didn't like the floppy neck, so I sewed around it and it stablized the join much better. Watching your video made me rethink the join. I going to finish off the head, make the body separately and then sew the body to the head, which will be a stronger join for younger kids, like for my 2 yo granddaughter. I didn't have a problem with the knotted legs, but maybe for the toad I might stop with the legs before the toes, make the knot and then add the toes so they are spaced appropriately. I really don't like the format of the book, as I've said in other places. Maybe after I've done a few more, I might change my mind, but I plan to type out the patterns and enlarge the font. I'm working on the dragon using silver Baby Velvet, with pink accents. There's no rule about using the colours suggested in the pattern. I'm also going to add a touch of golden thread to make the wings sparkle. Thanks for reviewing the book!
@KnottingHookCrochet11 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing to do the body separate and sew it on. That would also solve my problem of where my stitch lands when starting the legs. Most of the time I change up the colors on patterns, like that chick may end up being a cardinal or a blue bird, ya never know!
