Great info as a F150 Lightning and Mach E owner this was so informative. I am not in the towing business, but your info is great for owners of these new EV as well. Thanks!

first of all "THANK YOU VERY MUCH" I've been towing for 40yrs now and the ev's have me not sure of them. I have heard to many horror stories about them, from drive motors being hurt to crushed battery pans.

Awesome video! this is super helpful, thank you! Ok so I had my summers swapped for winters at my local Ford dealer, and talked to the mechanic while my truck was hoisted cuz I noticed he used the 4 big bolts on each corner of the skid plate that has a metal stud straight up to the frame, and not the 4 arrow indicated jacking points. he told me Ford said it was ok, as it's basically one with the frame in those spots. sure hope they knew what they were doing lol. didn't notice any bending or damage and its been fine since but just thought I'd mention it because it's a much better jack location for leverage as it's closer to the wheel and lower to the ground. my big floor jack wasn't able to get the strength at such a high reach to lift it off the ground using the arrow spots it said in the owners manual, hence bringing it in to Ford for the swap, so was thinking of trying his recommendation next time..

So only 1 pull on red cable released the hood and you could fully open it? I thought it took 2 people and a second pull and hold while a 2nd person lifted....
@Peopleareusuallygood4 ай бұрын
Actually, 1 person CAN open it using the red strap but it takes 2 pulls to release both primary latch and secondary latch. Duh, I read the manual.

F-150 ICE owner and was wondering why would the 12 system go down and how is it charged while driving? If something is draining the battery wouldn't the vehicle know that and shut off?
@towtrucktech1555 Жыл бұрын
Why the 12 volt systems go down? Hard to say, but it happens. The HV system supports the LV system through an inverter acting much the same as the alternator in an ICE vehicle, even while parked.

Will the parking brake release without a problem when in Neutral? 12Vdc power required for parking brake operation as well as for getting into Neutral towing?
@towtrucktech1555 Жыл бұрын
The EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) and Park Pawl Actuator are both electronically actuated, 12 volt is required to defeat both. That being said the vehicle can be in neutral and still have the EPB applied. Something to note, the Lighting actually has a park pawl in the electronic motor, for now, this is feature unique to Ford. “Park” in nearly all other platforms is nothing more than an application of the EPB.

Hi Chris, i have a 2022 f150 Lightning, and I'm trying to install a gooseneck hitch to tow a horse trailer. However, no one in my area (including dealership) knows what hitch is compatible with the Lightning. Do you know what brand and type of hitch I can get installed that will work? Thanks so much!

I’d be amazed if anyone would put a hitch in the bed of that truck. They are not really made for that kind of use.

Curious, what is the scenario where the 12v battery lost its charge?
@towtrucktech15552 жыл бұрын
There should actually be no reason the 12 volt ever goes down being the HV system supports LV. But it does happen, haven’t heard why.
@ctuan132 жыл бұрын
There have b3en several instances where this has occurred because the DC-DC converter that is responsible for charging the 12v battery has been programmed to come on enough or at the right times when the vehicle is off. (Essentially a software bug) So in those cases if the vehicle sat for an extended period of time without being plugged in and it was cold, the 12V battery could become depleted.

So you have to jump the 12v battery so you can tell the truck to pull power from the MASSIVE battery pack? Genius engineering.
@towtrucktech1555 Жыл бұрын
Yep, almost all are designed in a similar fashion.
@tomcez Жыл бұрын
Great, 12Vdc battery could go low if keeping drive in temporary neutral: “TEMPORARY NEUTRAL MODE LIMITATIONS Your vehicle could shift to park (P) after 30 minutes, or when the vehicle battery charge level is low. Prolonged use of this mode can cause the vehicle's 12V battery to run out of charge. Do not tow your vehicle in this mode. Failure to follow these instructions could result in vehicle damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.”
