Only a commenter more interested in trying to be recognized for making a clever negative comment would do so without trying to find an answer to his own comment. The mast antenna provides better range in fringe/remote areas. Some people actually use trucks outside of the city, where radio reception is more difficult. Not clever by a long shot. At least now, you don’t have ignorance as an excuse.

Instead of the charging screen, which is better suited to charging info, you may want to look at the usage screen, which shows your usage for trip that splits it up between driving, accessories, temperature, etc. that would tell us how much the outside temp had an effect on your usage, as well as the amount the truck used for heating you and the cabin.

With all the BlueCruise and Co Pilot driving that you’ve done so far, have you experienced any phantom braking? All those shadows from the trees over the freeway look like they would be prime causes for throwing off the cameras, but the radar probably eliminates that issue.

Thank you for posting this. I am leaving next weekend on a Denver to Houston run in my Lariat Lighting and was wondering what level you had the heat on while you were on your drive? I was planning on bundling up pretty warm in the truck and using the seat heater as my primary source of heat in order to extend range. I would like to get 1.7kW per mile while doing 75mph through eastern Colorado and Kansas. Seems like this might be achievable based on what you posted in the video.
@evdave528
@evdave528 2 жыл бұрын
The lightning uses resistive heating in therefore is very inefficient the best way to do it set the temperature at 65°. It will actually be closer to 68° in the cabin for whatever reason I don’t know why and turn your seat heat on and you don’t need to bundle up or anything it’ll be just fine. Your biggest problem in road tripping with the lightning is to locate fast chargers along your way as the user interface and the mapping sucks but if you pay attention, you should have a good trip
@paulf9585
@paulf9585 2 жыл бұрын
@@evdave528 Thanks for sharing. I have done the first leg of the trip, the one from Denver to Houston. It is no surprise that the truck does not like the extreme cold - like 20 degrees and below. When you add in traditional highway speeds the truck will not do 1.7kWh per mile. For the first part of my drive temps were extremely cold so I had to do like 68mph on the hwy to achieve 1.7kWh or 1.8kWh per mile. When I hit Texas and temps got to 50 degrees and above I started to see better efficiency at higher speeds. I was getting 1.8kWh per mile at 72mph. I absolutely do not use the Ford navigation for charger location, I have done the drive several times in my Taycan so I know all of the Electrify America chargers between Denver and Kansas City and down I-35 to Dallas.

1.5 mi/kWh = 667 Wh/mi You calculate it like this: 1000 / 1.5 = 667 And you convert back the same way: 1000 / 667 = 1.5

Thanks for the interesting range test Dave. Your Blue Cruse isn't quite what the "scientists" at Consumer Reports indicate in their recent ADA systems testing. It has Ford, GM and virtually all other ADA systems much better than FSD. In fact they state Teslas FSD system has had no major improvements since it's inception. @@Crunch_dGH so I have 40,000 miles on the Mach E. On occasion one or more chargers are down but I’ve never had an issue charging at electrify America. I charge to stop at baker California on my way to Las Vegas from Los Angeles, whether I take the Mach e or the model 3, because this stop has both the Tesla chargers and electrify America next to each other. It’s not uncommon to see a Tesla charging at the EA site here and I’ve done it myself as well, because it charges faster and the price per KWh is cheaper. @pepstein
@pepstein 2 жыл бұрын
This was just his attempt at being scientific. If he’d set the heater to 72° it would have reduced range further, but that’s not the end of the world. If you’re looking for an EV that has less range loss when using the heater, look for ones with heat pumps. These days Tesla is the best at maintaining range in the winter. Remember, the reason your ICE can keep you warm without using any extra gas is because it’s always wasting most of the energy in that gas. It is precisely because EVs are so damned efficient that they don’t have much free heat.

The reason ICE vehicles maintain relatively consistent fuel economy in cold weather and at high speeds is because they’re always wasting most of the energy in the gas. This provides a useful source of heat for the cabin, but it’s terribly wasteful. EVs are so efficient that there isn’t much waste heat available to heat the cabin. In city driving EVs capture energy during braking, hence their higher city efficiency. That explains why EV range varies so much with speed and temperature. It’s not the end of the world. This particular EV is quite inefficient compared to most others, and it lacks a heat pump, so cabin heating is also relatively inefficient. Despite this, it’s perfectly capable of road tripping.
