Amen, good sir! My healthy lifestyle (good exercise + good food + good sleep) is what allowed me to plow through the last 3yrs like a champ while working @ one of the biggest public hospitals in NY. My training is grounded on fundamentals and my equipment is simple: Kettlebells, pull-up/dip stand, rings and climbing rope. I take daily walks all year round unless the weather is too hostile to do so. This June I'm turning 50 and I'm as healthy and fit as can be for my age. I’m 62, and three years ago I was supposed to die. An infection and heart damage destroyed my body. Drugs and surgery stopped the mystery illness and it’s affects. it’s been a sucky recovery, and uphill battle rebuilding my physical health. But, if my baseline had not been in the top 1%, doctors think I would’ve kicked. Lesson? Never give in. A little is better than nothing, and it all adds up eventually. 10 push ups, or 7 pull ups will always be better than zero. I know, a little preachy and tmi. Still, starting my fourth year alive, and my 13 yr old daughter is appreciative. Happy new year y’all. ❤

1:47 the surface level representation of the strength of your inner life force Yes thats exactly what being fit used to mean. It was part of a whole cycle or wheel of "goodness" or virtue. Mind body spirit, pillars, triangle. The true renessaince man, the philosopher AND the statue. Your own sculpture but not still, a working tool, knowing your body like your minds intuition. An idea of completeness not complete unbalanced and only leaning to have as much physical mass and materialism as possible. Which would be like only judging a car based on how good the paint looks on the first day.

I'm more inspired by the attitude to physique in ancient Greece Especially I enjoyed reading Iliad, where someone being strong is always emphasized; and even back then they used to say "today's men are weak"
@radercalisthenics Жыл бұрын
I am really glad you made this video. These athletes really did have the best physiques since ancient Greece and Rome, and if I'm not mistaken, Sandow used to study the Greek and Roman statues and then try to reproduce the results with high rep sets with light dumbbells. I always think of the golden era physiques as optimal, but honestly, they were trying to get as big as possible with the tools available then, including drugs. Frank Zane said in a recent interview that the only reason he ate as often as he did is to have a way to choke down the hundreds of amino acid capsules he took a day. The physical culturists of the earlier era used real food and that's much more impressive. I just visited the British museum and saw a lot of the classical statues and there is much to emulate there. And maybe I'm biased, but I think bodyweight is the best method to produce a correctly proportioned physique.

Sandow died age 58 from an aortic aneurysm, but that's a condition strongly related to genetics that affects lots of men who never lift weights. It's natural that we focus on these guys for being physical specimens when they were young, but what's more impressive is how most of them seemed to live well above the current modern male life expectancy. It's too bad we don't know much about what they were doing in their later years.

I just now looked him up. Neuroscientist, artist, and gymnast, went to jail at 11 for damaging his neighbor's property with a homemade cannon, and has an asteroid named after him. His father used to take him to graveyards to examine the anatomy of corpses. Didn't see any physique pictures, but he sounds like an interesting man.

Couldn't agree more. Body building peaked before rampant steroid use took over. Today, in pursuit of mass, all sense of symmetry is lost.

100%! Plus sacrificing health for aesthetics... makes no sense to me.

Hi. I would love to see more content on ur daily diet. I know how important diets are to actually see certain results. Maybe u can incorporate ur current meal along with ur video post..it's just a suggestion to show a pattern of a complete regimen.

Noted! Great suggestion.

It would be amazing if you could do a video going into the training/diet routines of these old school men

@@Kboges Lost Secrets to a Great Body by David Bolton is probably the most well researched exploration of Old Time Strongman routines if you're looking into it. Love your channel man you're doing great work.

I really admire the older eras of fitness, and the trailblazers from those times. I much prefer the simplicity of the routines, and the physiques in this video than the standards of today. That said, I wouldn't mind looking like Zyzz, or Jeff Seid.

I agree, though I much prefer the physique of the old timers!

I've been very interested in Hindu calisthenics recently. Great Gama style and the beauty of dands and baithaks. Older Indian Wrestlers looked like bodybuilders but had the gusto to back it up too. Badass. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah that is so true. I find the Indian physical culturists to be incredible.I want to dig into it more and eventually make a video on it. Information is just harder to come by.
