The owner of my rental gave me a 10% increase last year and this year. I live in Inglewood, CA. Is that legal?

Congratulations LA County. Your policies ultimately screwed over tenants. Landlord would usually work with their tenants and not raise rents for many years in a row until absolutely necessary. Landlords would give a prospective tenant a “chance”’even if their rental history was less than perfect or income borderline. Landlords will be sure to rent above the “fair market”. What we’re you all thinking? NOW landlords will be certain raise rents every year (less than 10%). Landlords will only rent to the cream of the crop and ensure they are high income with the ability to pay generous deposits- yeah all the prospective home buyers who put off buying a home because of interest rates. They have money saved up and will gleefully pay a big deposit. Landlords are sitting on empty units and some are in no hurry. They don’t trust the govt now because of what you’ve done to them. What a disaster caused by you guys who don’t understand what you’ve ultimately done. Shame.

@greaselighting101 I don’t think it was the supervisors who did this on their own. They followed the wishes of the people. I saw so many renters pushing for this. You should see all the celebratory posts stating “we won” from renters. People tend to ask for things but don’t always realize the impact of their requests. Another example is of people asking for minimum wages to be increased. Did they think services and goods would not increase? Best to let the market decide wages and rents. Govt should stay out of it but people don’t understand that and pressure govt to do something.

@@cameliavera of course it was from pressure- but a govt has no right to impose the burden of their policies upon landlords. Renters are screwed and they can thank the officials for what happens next.
