Pickups and there impedance are a huge factor. It would have been more challenging to match the pickups better and choose solely on make and wood. The Humbuckers were easy to pick out. Learning the difference between the two took a minute . The LP pups were hotter and darker. Single coils are always thinner. Your Strat didn't have the typical "strat neck" sound that distinguishes it more so from a Tele. (Jimi/Stevie) By the end I was nailing it. Thanks, that was fun!

The Fenders I found more difficult to distinguish in these single pickup sound tests. I guess inbetween positions would have been more obvious on the Strat or maybe I just need to play Fenders more.
@joeroe26222 жыл бұрын
For me it was easier to hear the differences when distorted just because of how the guitars reacted to it with the Ibanez being brighter the Les Paul while having that humbucker sound and the Les Paul being darker and single coils having that twangy tone even with distortion
@koshersalaami6 жыл бұрын
One for sixteen. The main thing I learned is that if you’re running distortion you should pick your guitar based on how it plays rather than on how it sounds, assuming you’re choosing between these four, because the difference is pretty minimal. He could have repeated one of the guitars in that section and I doubt anyone would have noticed that the same instrument had been played twice. My listening was an IPad and a pair of beyerdynamic DT770 pros.

Weeelll if your regular fender player you can see a pretty big difference in sound by no means is it as big like a a strat to a les Paul the tele has lot warmer neck pickup that tends to be slightly muddier while a strat has is a little less warm but cuts through better and teles have a great bridge pup that can have great twang, but the bridge pup on the strat can be twangy it just seems more shrill to me strats are all about the neck pup and middle switch but with a tele its all about the bridge, by no means is it huge but those are things I've picked up being a player using mostly fender guitar for the better part of a decade

I don't own an electric guitar so I really took this test seriously to rate the sound I liked best. I had a point system and i listened through the whole segment of each test then went back and listened again, rating the sound on each one, then added the points at the end. Some tests i pretty much couldn't tell any difference so i had to really strain to differentiate. Turns out, the strat and Les Paul tied for #1, then Ibanez, with tele finishing last. I've always loved the look of a les paul, so that's the tiebreaker. I'll get a les paul style tho, since I dont have tons of money laying around. Probably Wolf or maybe Grote.

I'm writing these down as I go along 1-1 tele 1-2 Ibanez 1-3 strat 1-4 LP First set all right! Not a bad start 2-1 tele 2-2 strat 2-3 LP 2-4 Ibanez Well not bad, good to know I'm going to be in the market for a tele soon :) 3-1 Ibanez 3-2 LP 3-3 tele 3-4 strat Aye, I guess after too many comparison videos I might actually be learning something 4-1 LP 4-2 Ibanez 4-3 strat 4-4 tele Pretty happy with my results. At least I can tell a les paul from a strat and notice which pickups are higher output
@derekvillorente43344 жыл бұрын
I was surprised that I got them all right. I could definitely tell the difference between the clean sounds of the single coils from the bell like tones and the thicker midrange from the humbuckers when the guitars became distorted.

Holy shit, I nailed it. Knowing what the pickups sound like, especially differentiating between humbucker and single coil, helps a lot. The telecaster tone is simply unmistakable, as is the strat, I had more problems with the Ibanez and Gibson, which says a lot about the quality of that Ibanez. At the end, decided that the muddier one was the Gibson. (cool story bro)
@JaxonBurn5 жыл бұрын
kambion wow, I was the complete opposite! I could very easily tell which was the Gibson and which was the Ibanez, but struggled to differentiate between the tele and the strat.

It's ten years i play guitar and I own an american stratocaster, yamaha pacifica, schecter omen 8 (8 strings) and hopefully soon a mustang. This test was very interesting, i did it very carefully with earpods. It was easier recognise fenders. Here's my results: #1 Telecaster , Les Paul (wrong), Stratocaster, RG (wrong) = 2/4 #2 Les Paul, RG (wrong), Stratocaster (wrong), Telecaster (wrong)= 1/4 #3 RG, Les Paul, Telecaster, Stratocaster = 4/4 all correct #4 RG(wrong), Les Paul(wrong), Telecaster, Stratocaster = 2/4

My results: Test 1 - fail Test 2 - fail Test 3 - i got the Les Paul and the Tele Test 4 - i nailed it, got them all. It was really hard to tell, the first 2 tests were the hardest for me, but let me tell you I own this guitars: Les paul, Fender Strat american delux HSS, G&L Legacy HSS, Peavy T26, And a Monty's custom made guitar, and in my studio they all sound pretty different, Only the Fender and the G&L are similar, the G&L having a bit more mids.

I've been a musician for 12 years and the.fender stratocaster has always been my 1sr choice but it depends on your taste and what you play fenders country blues funk well, Gibson makes good guitars but there not for me more rock and hard types of music and ibanezs usual are used for metal and extreme music you can you any guitar for any style those are just common trends
@hapax878 жыл бұрын
To me, a Stratocaster is a better guitar for blues and blues based rock, whereas a Les Paul is better for hard rock and metal. Telecaster is very versatile , but mostly used for country and blues, Ibanez gives a great sound in certain genres, but is not my favorite. You have to have technique like Steve Vai to make one sing like he does.

I choiced: 1 - Gibson, 2 - Ibanez, 3 - Telecaster, 4 - Stratocaster. Good comparative. Thanks

It's very easy to pick the fat sound of a Les Paul from the bunch when they are all clean. With distortion, its a little bit harder... The Strat and Tele were also recognizable, but not as much as the LP. What i learned from this video is that with distortion, every guitar can basically sound the same, with a little bit of tweaking.

I consider myself an astute music listener but otherwise know jack-squat about electric guitars being just a beginner on acoustic. i tried this and I got more wrong than right, but my person ratings are: Test #1 (neck w mild overdrv): Tele, Strat, Iban, Les; Test #2 (bridge w dist): Iban, Tele, Strat, Les; Test #3 (Neck clean) Tele, Strat, Iban, Les; Test #4 (Bridge Dist) Strat, Iban, Les, Tele... I apparently gravitate more towards the Telecaster and away from the Les Paul.

why surprising? they are quite similar guitars the ibanez just has more metal oriented pickups

The ibanez is a "Superstrat", it need to sound similar
@tonyrigatoni17128 жыл бұрын
+Mauro Rodriguez I don't know much about guitar tones and all, but with my little experience I think there is a huge difference between these two.The strat I believe is more aggressive. Is the Les Paul really characterised as the superstrat?

I only listen to the high gain sound, and it is pretty obvious, the Gibson has a heavy bass. The strat single coil is easy to listen. For those who cannot tell the difference, make sure you plug in a good quality headphone (no artificial change in frequency response)
