Love ya man, love this channel. I'm 54 and looking to go at it on my own in a few years. I have a lot of friends. around 500 personal friends thru the Texas music scene. This year I am gonna start with the maintenance contracts on the side from my regular commercial HVAC job. I figure I can build that up on the side to give me a boost before I go on my own. I have learned a lot from you and love your no bullshit straight forward approach. Thanks for the comedy, and thanks for the knowledge and inspiration. Love this trade! Hacks make us stacks.

I charge $100.00 per hour with a $50.00 trip charge,one hour minimum, plus materials. That includes me and the tools that are on my truck. Most service calls I can complete in less than an hour. In Florida, the only way to make a real good living as a plumber is to own your own business. Because of that ,the amount of one man shops is off the charts,and their overhead is low,so $150.00 per hour is a good wage,compared to working for someone. A plumber making $35.00 per hour is very rare. Open the phone book and see how many plumbers are in your area,I'll bet you will be surprised how many there are. My point is ,it's tough to get to far outside of that price point. I am speaking of my area,Sarasota/Bradenton area,southwest Florida. I'm happy to see you on the new construction job,it's a great way to train guys. God bless,continued success! I would have run that hose bib in 1.25 hours plus material, $200-225 and moved on to the next job!

Same issue with locksmiths as plumbers..... everyone retired does sidework..... I do not care how many part time locksmiths there are, let alone the fake ones all over google and apple maps being dispatched from a Florida call center, I seem to be kept busy doing superior work, using better products and having created a reputation of quality. I have supplied products to people who have built multiplet homes over the years. On this past Friday, (Yesterday), I sold and Installed two "smart locks" ( no Home Depot Specials, these are 680.00 EACH, but they are fantastic ) for a client for whom I installed the same one year ago, on his previous house. He would not go to anyone else. This is a common theme... you OVERDELIVER, create satisfaction, and you will get repeat new business from same clients, and everyone they know. Nothing new to learn here, but too many do not follow basic principles of running a business. So, in Florida, why not be the 3rd most expensive company in the state? That means there are two others charging more, and arguably busy. But be in a position to OVERDELIVER on expectations.

Assuming the customer wanted to pay $250 to install the hose bib. The masonry drill bit runs about $50, the fuel for the service call runs about $50, the labor overhead runs about $100, …. That would cost you to install the hose bib. You made the right decision.

That is probably the hardest part of the job when working for friends and family, making it worth your while and not working for free. Your trucks are stocked pretty good. Just tools per truck is probably 20K not even counting the parts and materials you carry around. You have nice vans that are insured, it is all part of the cost. I work for a contractor, I know how much it would cost to get started in Commercial HVACR, more than my piggy bank holds. Know your worth is the truest statement ever said on KZbin. Thanks Mike.

When people find out I am an electrian they ask me if I can do some side electricial work on there house which is cool. I can go two ways on this I tell them i don't carry insurance for side work and of course they say thats not a problem they would never tell there insurance company if something happens. We all know how things go down if there is a loss or an injury. The sccond is i tell them no problem, $100 an hour 4 hour minium. I don’t get any side work for some reason.

When you’re doing emergency, plumbing, heating and cooling service the skies, the limit how much people pay to get back in service. But when you get a bid job that’s when they have time to shop prices, you’ll never get the same hourly rate for a bid job as you would emergency service.
@garysmith97729 ай бұрын
You can get all the work you want if you give it away. You need to know what it cost you to sell one hour of labor. Very very few actually know that number. That is what I used to teach to contractors.
@TheSimba869 ай бұрын
He's about to discover Florida people won't pay what New Yorkers will for services, way too many good ol' boys in pickup trucks that will work for beer, Knowing your worth is important, but knowing your market is also important, you ain't going to be able to charge $150 an hour if ever single other person charges $50 an hour
@tallbrian1009 ай бұрын
Yes you will never get away from Chuck and a truck anyplace. Homes in Florida on the coast or neer the water start at 300k and go up from there. Some people that have expensive houses in FL are looking for cheap but most what good service from someone they can count on to get the job done, right and on time.

You’re not in the free business. Sometimes with established customers they expect something more for their money , but there has to be a limit on nonsense . We had a new water softener installed from a well known and reputable plumbing company in our community. I went with a quality unit and not a cheap home center DIY model. I also requested that I wanted the shutoff and bypass plumbing at softener replaced because it was corroded from water leaking. Installer didn’t do it , and after he left it started leaking more from him working on it . I had to call them back to replace it. They didn’t charge me to do the work that I was more than willing to do so. That was on them I guess .
