But it seems that sometimes, even if I create educational content without "forbidden words" and only with good faith and transparency, my hard work becomes worthless. Looks like this video is demonized again. I don't want to ask for anything from anyone. All I want is to be allowed to do my work without being told by an algorithm that I don't deserve to be monetized. And because of this, the video is not suggested, is not viewed and dies slowly. 100 hours, maybe, for nothing. For those who consider this a betrayal... Romania and Germany fought together but were not friends. Germany signed the RM pact with Russia in '39, trough it Romania was forced to give up Basarebia to Russia. Then in august 1940 trough, another pact at Vienna Romania was forced by Germany and Italy to give Northen Transilvania to Hungary. In September 1940 Germany forced Romania to give South Dobrogea to Bulgary. So in a single year, Romania lost close to 100 000 km of land and 33% of the population (6,8 million peoples), without pulling the trigger once, and Germany was the main actor in that. So Romania and Germany were not comrades or something, Romania simply fought for its survival, and in the yard of two behemoths that decided by themselves to play war. If there is a betrayer here, that's not Romania...

They turned against their former allies without notification, just in one night. it was not a betrayal, according to you. About the territorial losses: they belonged to other countries before 1920. So, if you consider from a Roumanian standpoint: you are right, they were deprived of the territories. From all the other neighbours standpoints: they simply gained back what was lost to Roumania. In 1939 was a secret pact (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact) between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Its clauses provided a written guarantee of peace by each party towards the other and a commitment that declared that neither government would ally itself to or aid an enemy of the other. In addition to the publicly-announced stipulations of non-aggression, the treaty included the Secret Protocol, which defined the borders of Soviet and German spheres of influence. Germany, through this secret pact, helps the Soviets to occupy part of Romania, then goes to Romania and tells them that it will help Romania recover its Bessarabia and Bukovina if Romania offers oil to the German war industry and wages war on the eastern front until the defeat of the USSR. Germany betrayed the USSR and violated the pact. Germany played a perverse game in which it helped to dismantle Romania in order to later play the role of its savior.

Two of my great-grandfathers, that I know of, have fought in WW2, have been captured by the soviets and sent to Siberia. One of them escaped, along with a group of soldiers, and they literally 'walked' back to Romania. It took them several months to cross Russia, constantly hiding in the woods, and trying to survive. They had to work for farmers for food and clothes, they also learned how to speak Russian during that time. After a long journey they reached the city of Brasov, which is a large city located in the center of today Romania, where they were recaptured and sent back to Siberia. Imagine that shit, man...I can't even comprehend how they must have felt. However, after a short period, Romania switched sides and they were freed. I don't know what happened to my other captured great-grandfather, but I remember a few stories from his wife, my great-grandmother, from during the time he was gone. She said that it was much better when we were allied with the Germans, she said most of them were quite polite and that they were trading small kegs of beer and chocolate with the peasants for food. But after we switched sides and the Russians came, it was horrifying. They were raping women and stealing even though we were 'allies'. They regularly came to peoples homes to take their food, and especially alcohol, by force. My great-grandmother used to hide my grandmother and her sister in the attic under blankets so the Russians wouldn't find them when they came looting. Communist pieces of shit, they set Romania back 50 years. And we still suffer because of their actions today, being lead by remnants of the communist regime and their off-springs. EDIT: And what we see going on in Ukraine today (March, 2022) is a reenactment of what Russia did during WW2.

It should be noted that the king also had been negotiating the coup with the US, UK and Soviets and was given some assurances which ended up not happening. But once the war ended, Stalin said it is occupied and Roosevelt/Churchill both backed off and let Stalin have his way, per their Yalta conference split of Europe. Based on the promises King Michael was given in 1944, the coup seemed like the best option.

You missed an essential event: 23 August 1939. Foreign affairs ministers of Hitler and Stalin signed the alliance agreement (Ribbentrop-Molotov pact). It was just a week before the official start of the war. By it, Europe was split in two. What happened with Poland (occupied by both Germany and USSR respecting the demarcation line) also happened with Romania, but by proxies. Romania was invaded in 1940 from 3 sides, by Russia and by two of Germany's proxy, Hungary and Bulgaria. It was impossible for her to fight all these invaders at once or reject both European socialist empires without the help of Western democracies. A similar act happened at the end of the war, when Churchill and Roosevelt replaced Hitler in a new secret deal with Stalin (at Tehran and Yalta). Again, Romania was thrown under the buss, given to Stalin in exchange for Greece.

Before Trianon, Hungarians were a minority in their own country, constituting just 40%. They could keep the other 60% in check with the joint effort of Vienna, but even Hungarian nationalists wanted their own ethno-state since 1848. Which they got through Trianon. They did lose the provinces where Romanians, Croats, Slovaks, Ukrainians were majority, but that's hardly an injustice. There are so many Romanians in Transilvania, that if it would be occupied by Hungary today, they would constitute the majority in resulting (expanded) Hungary.

It was a ruse and instead Horthy's son was captured by Otto Skorzeny's special troops. Hitler asked Admiral Horthy to meet him in Germany to discuss Hungary's situation. While away German troops seized power in Hungary. When Horthy returned he was greeted by German troops, driven to the palace, and was instructed on what he was supposed to do to appease Germany. In the end Germany seized complete control anyways.

In 1914 when ww1 started, the king at the time Carol I wanted to join Germany's side however the rest of the politicians didn't approve and Romania stayed neutral. By 1916 the situation changed, Carol Ist was now dead and replaced by Ferdinand who chose to enter the war on the Entente's side and liberate Transylvania despite Ferdinand being a German himself

@@adrianoprea3563 it was rather a defensive pact like NATO ,the difference is that in an alliance you need to help our allies in war and in a defensive pact only if they are the attacked one not the attackers. Both are dire losses, but the ww2 saw a literal decimation on the population with even higher losses between 1947 and 1950, with the induced communist famine and collectivisation of peasant's farms .

Thank you very much for this video. I am from Romania and I am glad that other countries have the opportunity to know our history. Antonescu only wanted to save the country, many accuse him of joining the axis powers but he was not to be chosen, the negotiations with the axis powers had started since the reign of King Carol II because it was the only solution. The fact that Romania turned its weapons was not a betrayal, Germany had agreed for Russia to annex Bessarabia and had put pressure on us to cede southern Dobrogea and northern Transylvania. Romania suffered a lot, the population of Bessarabia was sent to Siberia to be exterminated, at the same time Hungary killed the Romanian population in northern Transylvania because it was not satisfied with the territories received, wanting more. My grandfather's brother went to Russia to fight, but he never returned home. Other people who fought with him and returned said that he had barely spoken to him and after they left him, a loud explosion was heard in the area where he was standing. My family told me how his father was waiting for him every night, hoping he would get home

Those who still have living grandparents, please ask them about WW2 and in special about "nemti"(germans) si "rusi" (russians). I'll always remember my grandfather who described the German soldiers as "civilised and clean, that they had soap an they were not killing for fun" as opposed with the Russian soldiers who were in his words "dirty pigs, who were raping women and disembowelling pregnant women" and the local population was always running for hiding when "the Russians are coming!". As a personal opinion, I think that yes, Romania was betrayed by the Britain, who helped the Russians with food supplies, war machinery and weapons, but only because their arse was on the table and the Germans were watching from Dunkirk. Do the British say that they had any help in the war? No...they done it all by themselves. Romania was from the beginning in a lose - lose situation. An alliance with the Russians from the beginning in exchange for the occupied Romanian territories would've not worked out. Unlike other western powers, who even today underestimate the Russian politics and thinking, Romania and all the other ex-communist neighbouring countries, had and have not any doubts on what the Russians are capable for. Could've Romania avoid becoming a communist country? Yes, only if the geographical position was different and was located in the Western Europe, which sadly it is not and followed the history of all the other eastern European countries, including east Berlin and east Germany.

@ionbarbulescu14605 жыл бұрын
@The Nova renaissance the resources that went to Germany are a fact. The blame on Romania? A mere misconception. The dedication to be expected in the war? Germany 100%, Romania Transylvania%. ^-^ Did somebody mention the refusal of destroying the bridges that threatened the flanks? Germans still thought the Russians couldn't beat unarmed peasants. Yeah, peasants. Romania had no army ready for war prior to WW2 and Germany taking parts hostage and forcing the country to war. Easier to point the finger. The Germans developed machines they had no oil for. They AIMED for Stalingrad because of its name, didn't they? And then were ordered to die on site for the Vaterland!
@ionbarbulescu14605 жыл бұрын
@The Nova renaissance "AIMED for Stalingrad" not "aimed for STALINGRAD". I was talking more about straining the army by engaging into urban warfare. Did they really have to control the rubble for them to be able to control Baku? Baku would have been enough to fuel their machines since I've heard it produced more than half of the soviet oil. And if it were a gateway it implies it should've been of importance to be taken before Baku. But, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Stalingrad just supplementary? Paul Ludwig Ewald von Kleist: "The capture of Stalingrad was subsidiary to the main aim. It was only of importance as a convenient place, in the bottleneck between Don and the Volga, where we could block an attack on our flank by Russian forces coming from the east. At the start, Stalingrad was no more than a name on the map to us." But by trying to secure their flanks they opened an even weaker one. The fact that they expected such a thin flank to hold against the soviets without guns... overconfidence. Well, all that, I don't disagree with what you just said. I just expressed myself wrong. I should use less linguistic devices and be more concrete.

As a Hungarian I completely understand the Romanians -> they took the only logical and viabe option. 1st blame the eternal greed and stupidity of the Great Powers (foremost France and the UK) for the disastrous peace agreements after WW1, which made a hotbed for such situation. Romania and Hungary joined the Axis since one of them wanted to keep what they gained just before, and one wanted to regain what they just lost before -> since noone was really interested globally to "solve" this issue but Nazi Germany - the 2 countries were basically played off vs. each other. When it became clear that Germany will lose the war - Romania weighted its option -> if they stick to Germany, they will surely lose what they got in the war BUT maybe wont regain what they lost to Hungary; on the other hand if they switch to the Allies, they will lose what they gained in the war vs. the SU, BUT surely regain what they lost to Hungary, since the Allies made it clear, they want restore former borders in that region. So they mde they right choice as I stated before. Hungary on the other hand had even fewer options - if Germany loses the war we lose everything we regained, so Hungary remained the last ally of Germany (more or less) till the end. The sad irony of all - that not Romania and not even Hungary was spared of soviet occupation and eventually the communist takeover ... btw sane people only dislike chauvinists and irredententist no matter of nationality ... so I dislike such people whether Romanian or Hungarian ... or Martian ... Greetings from Hungary!

That's because communism made it impossible to pursue irredentist claims via war. At the same time, nationalism (or supernationalism in the case of the multinational federations) was promtoed as a means of legitimizing the largely unpopular and often imposed from the outside regimes. People didn't travel a lot, there was no concentrated effort on the part of local intellectuals to reconcile with the wartime enemies, similar to what happened between France and West Germany-quite the contrary, low-key hostility between Poland and East Germany, or between Hungary and Romania was queitly encouraged by the authorities in all of these countries (and of course the Kremlin) since as long as the people were preoccupied with a foreign threat, they could not be bothered to stand up against the regime. The only bond that was popilarly claimed to exist between these nations was that of a socialist brotherhood, a concept most Eastern Europeans were either indifferent or downright hostile towards. Meanwhile, much of the reconciliation between the former Allies and Axis in the West occured as a result of US pressure which did not wish to see any fractions in its camp in Europe. So, what we basically had over the course of more than four decades, was a conflict not quenched but simply frozen-the moment the spring came over at the turn of the '90s, it was released in its original form, sometimes coming back not just to 1945 but 1918. And when you read a bit more into it, you will realize how lucky we were it was only Yugoslavia, Moldova and the Caucasus that saw actual wars broke out: Gorbachev made numerous suggestions to the leadership of Poland's Solidarity that should Polish troops try to recapture its former Eastern territories, now in Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania, the Red Army would not intervene (thank God they declined). Hungary and Slovakia almost went to war over the Hungarian minority in the latter. But since everybody was so utterly desperate to get into the European Community, wars and dictatorships were carefully avoided (the downfall of Slovakia's Meciar occured immediately after Slovakia's future integration with the EU and NATO was put into question). And now that the European integration has already occured, the EU model is no longer as attractive as it used to, most countries in the region (primarily those that have seen economic booms since 1989) have grown arrogant and nativist, fueling nationalist attitudes.

MLRS6 Dobrogea se află in regiunea balcanică, deci și România cumva este parte a zonei balcanice.

Romania it's not small, total land surface almost equal with uk, without Republic of Moldova. Actually UK without Northern Ireland it's smaller than Romania. And land disputes are everywhere.

6:01 That map looks totally ridiculous, like Hungary shoving its index finger down Romania's throat - unnatural, good thing they changed that.

Some Trivia : After king Michael ( Mihai I Hohenzollern in Romanian ) abdicated and spent some years in Europe , mostly Switzerland he worked as a banker on Wall Street :) Bet you didn't know that . He spent quite some time in US actually and with his wife , the princess of Spain ( or former princess I should say ) . His longest video footage of him was on american television actually where he gave a lenghty interview speaking about the war and his life . The president of US at that time , Harry Truman feared his arrival at first because he thought he came to ask for help against the Soviet Union , he put serveral people with pancards when the king arrived saying " our boys don't want war " or "leave" ; later he accepted the king . The king worked on Wall Street for a period of time and at the same time lobby with the British , Swiss and US for democracy and support against comunists in Romania . Ofc , he was not alone as many politicians and intelectuals fled to UK during communism , people like Ion Ratiu for example who started an academy and Ratiu foundation in UK .

Because they didn't want to be utterly annihilated by the Soviet Union?

Exactly. By late 1944 The Soviets could have burned Romania to ashes if they so desired.

Sometimes death is better than dishonor (we would’ve died as a country at least,we would’ve died out fighting). We are now such a disgrace to our past,no wonder we are divided. I hope i see the day when we the Romanian people take back whats ours.

@@TheKILLERDESTRUCTION We are doing just fine dude. We were divided before, before unification, the Romanian territories where always in civil wars or wars against each other. It took so much blood, time and suffering to create Romania, it would have been a shame to let it burn for something foolish like an honor. We chose disgrace, but we gained a future. As for taking back what's ours... Times have changed. Now we are Europeans before anything else. It is far more beneficial to learn to be friends with each other than plan future wars and conflicts... In the end, what's the point of borders in the EU anyway? We are free to move everywhere. At this point, borders are a mere cultural thing. As for Basarabia... If one day they give up on their Russophilia and chose the West, we should help them... In rest, unification is a pointless idea now. There is no benefit for us whatsoever and would create only troubles and problems. I feel bad for them, but they are quite obvious that they don't like the idea of Unification. As for other territories is too late. We can't expect Ucraineans giving up our ex-territories... we are not open to autonomy for Magyars either right? And Cadrilater was Bulgarian territory from the start. We have enough land... way more than our peoples need anyway. We should work to develop it instead of dreaming about pointless expansions. Look at Russia, they have a shit ton of land... most of it is deserted or soviet ruins.

That happened either way... the army on the Eastern front was taken captive and sent to Siberia. The rest of the army was used as cannon fodder in conquering Hungary and Austria... but I guess at least the country didn't get bombed out of existence so the communists got a squeaky clean country to control. Oh and also with very few military resources left to oppose them, figure that.

@Super Mario true story. Also, idiot Hitler didn't believe info we gave him on Stalingrad about the Impending Russian attack didn't allow us to enter the city of Stalingrad ( Russians fight like thugs In close combat, and Russian war memoirs, check vassili Grossman books, state that they were terrified about Romanian bayonet charges.) It doesn't matter now. We are European. Russians won, but even we, Romanians live better than them. Hungarians are free to visit Romania anytime they want, I can visit Budapest anytime I want. Maybe in the future they will have a honorary mountain peak in Carpathians. The Russians... Nice people, worst politicians. P.s. My grandpa barely escaped Stalingrad. He was a ww1 orphan, and he died in his 90"s while asleep, with a bayonet under his pillow.
