what's most terrifying about it it's the fact that in the end, he won (the "Internet devil" character he enacts.). We're already tangled up in such a way that trying to kill it would basically rupture the society we know, and that's why he laughed. The maniacal and victorious laugh of a villain who knows that even if he dies, his plan would keep in motion.

Worth pointing out “your time is now, your [inside]’s out. Honey how you grew, and if we stick together who knows what we’ll do” Bo took a 5 year break because he was having huge anxiety attacks and started to blackout after his last performance and immediately ran to go puke. There is injected moments where you realise Bo’s fame blossomed on the internet and that this was his reality for a long time. He is a fantastic writer and always think to look deeper with his lyrics. Great vid ❤️

Yup. All Eyes On Me was, in my opinion, every inner conflict he had with voices of anxiety snatching his body away from him during one of his panic attacks. It really hits different, because a lot of people with similar anxiety or emotional trauma couldn't listen to versions of the song with the part where he yells at the camera like a drunk father.

Facebook has psychologists that work with the algorithm teams, so does every other major social company. Tiktok is literally an arm of the CCP intelligence apparatus. The insatiable, ravenous urge for unlimited acquisition feeds all of these companies. They call us the consumers, but we are the food in this instance. I'm not saying don't use these products, what do you want to be left behind? a luddite? Don't worry, an AI will be along shortly on your phone to tell you how to feel about things. First off, props, you are one of the only reactors (and there have been MANY for this song) that really seemed to 'get' the fact that the song is being sung from the perspective of a evil or demonic 'unreliable narrator' who tries to lure in the young and the venerable. Second, my first reaction to the title of this video was "wait, WHAT?" you've NEVER reacted to Bo Burnham? It's good to have our perspective shaken up once in awhile and I'm glad my comment had a positive effect for you. It's a sign of intellectual maturity to see different perspectives and to even change our own. This is a lesson Vonnegut has taught me thru his use of brilliant satire that tends to soak in a little less funny(or a lot less) than the initial reaction. I've no idea who said this and forgive the paraphrasing, but the gist of it is a favorite of mine: "The ability to change your mind means you still have one!" A little disappointed that none of the reactors I've listened to have, out loud at least, connected the line "Just nod or shake your head and we'll do the rest" as a direct allusion to the all-mighty algorithms that govern what we see on the internet, that you even talk about at the top of the video. I dunno if that's just a me thing or if the concept of algorithms is so embedded in our everyday lives that it just seemed like a casual line, but honestly I thought it was one of the more horrifying lines in the piece. Like even if you don't engage with the system at all (not using likes or dislikes), you still nod or shake your head if you watch the entire video vs ending it halfway through, for example.

This song is aimed squarely at the "Zoomer" generation, kids born after the new millennium who have been raised in a culture centered around the internet. It's from the perspective of those who have an enormous financial stake in encouraging those kids, now young adults, to spend literally all of their time on the internet. No matter what it is you want, the internet is where you should go. Give us your data and let us sell you ads, and never leave. They want to make you think that their intentions are pure, to give you a platform to express all your thoughts and desires, but there's no denying the real motivation is just like any other business, profit. And the way they profit is to get you addicted.

15:20 “unstoppable, watchable, the time is now, your Inside’s out, honey how you grew” I think this bit is the most genius honestly. on top of the general “your emotions/what’s inside is now out there for everyone to see” directed at gen z, this is literally what’s happening to Bo as he’s singing and we’re watching the special - his inner thoughts and emotions are now out there. plus since the special is called Inside, I think the internet is speaking to Bo directly and giving a little nod to the fact that, even though the song is satirizing the internet, it’s in a special that’s made entirely for the internet and is going to just end up another part of it, and now bo is being welcomed back after the 5 years he took away from comedy, having grown in that process and that the time is now for him to come back, then going on to give Bo its own personal sales pitch, saying “if we stick together, who knows what we’ll do?” Maybe I’m overthinking this, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned about Bo it’s that each part of his specials has multiple layers. Just adds to his insane level of genius

The thing that disturbs me the most, the “you” he sings about in the slow part is at most 13 years old today. “Mommy let you use her iPad, you were barely two!” The iPad was released in April of 2010. If “Mommy” got one on release date and let her child (barely two at this point) play with it, this kid would be 13 by now. Which gives a whole deeper level to this section. How this addictive behavior, that the internet is instigating into its users, is most felt and adopted by our children. It’s a wonderful song and I love Bo for always hitting the “Social-Critique-Nail” square on the head. And the fact, that he was working in the whole “inside” special, alone without a huge staff of editors, producers, and Regisseur on hand, makes this one even more awe inspiring to me.

The line about how the iPad did exactly what we wanted it to do when we put it in our kid's hand? That one gets me. We asked the Internet to babysit our kids, and now we're shocked at how consumed by it they have grown up to be. What did we really expect?

that line hits really close to me. i’m 15 now, and when i was about 4 or 5, my mom gave my brother and i access to her ipad. and we were on it *all the time.* i remember spending more time on that ipad than i spent playing with my brother. it definitely shaped me as a person. as much as i’d like to say i could go without the internet for an extended period of time, i really don’t think i could. it’s so ingrained in my brain at this point. some of my earliest memories involve that ipad, so what else am i supposed to know?

One thing I don't think people tend to notice, the warmer, slower light he turns on during the bridge section where he's talking about "you", comes back on at the very end to conclude the song. To me it symbolizes how the internet has effectively assimilated you into it. You've become a part of it, you're a part of all the background noise that's designed to suck other people into the wormhole.

I really like your take talking about the soullessness and how his approach of coming at the topic from the perspective of the internet itself. When I first saw this all I could think about was it's reflection of the mania and shear manic nature of the internet and more broadly the world. It shows this duality where we as people are both victims of the internet and perpetrators. The song is fun while showing the world and us for what we are

As someone once said.. “The Internet is the best and worst thing humanity has every created.” For example, the parents of this generation don’t understand why their kids are so absorbed in their devices because they didn’t grow up with that so therefore they don’t know how to help. They try to use the things that their parents taught them, but it doesn’t work because it’s not the same thing, it’s a completely different issue. Which leads to conflict and parents guilt tripping their kids and pointing out they’re addicted to their devices and making them feel like they’re the only people in the world with this issue. We are the very first generation with the particular problem and are the first of many more to come. *And that personally scares me.*

4:50 part of that effect I think is the costuming and camera angles. Bo positions himself to be looking down into the camera at almost all of the angles he uses, making him appear larger and predatory and also seem to be "watching" the viewer, but the dark glasses prevent you from watching him back.

Bo's a genius, i'm so glad you're reacting to his stuff. Some of his best works, in my opinion, are "words, words, words." "rant." (not the kanye one) "eff" "hell of a ride" and "i'm bo yo" they're all solely wordplay; if you were to try breaking down the lyrics to any one of these songs, it'd be a solid 20-minute video. and that is a good thing. he's also pretty big on social commentary. songs such as "rant." again, "how the world works" "lower your expectations" "pandering" "repeat stuff" and "art is dead." are really good representations. and then, we have the introspective/sad ones. "can't handle this" "nerds" "all eyes on me" "are you happy?" and "nerds" he has four specials in total. in order, they are "words, words, words" "what." "MAKE HAPPY" and, of course, "Inside" this is just a quick summary to let you know what you were getting into lol, bo is a brilliant mind, always has been ahead of his time. hopefully it helps out 👍🏽👍🏽

Great reaction vid. The bit that always gets me is the juxtaposition of “here’s why women never fuck you” and “here’s how you can build a bomb”. This was a great breakdown of this song, as always, but I was really hoping Knox would comment on one thing I never hear anyone comment on about this song, the constant surveillance state under current that runs throughout it. Because from the very beginning you get this very strong sense that the perspective it's told from is an omniscient and omnipotent one. That this being speaking to you knows your every desire and motivation. That they are like a little devil on your shoulder, whispering in your ear, that knows exactly what to say and what to offer you to guide you down the path they want you on. And the only time Bo actually says anything overtly about this is when he say, "You. You. Unstoppable. Watchable." Because you are always being watched. First because you put "your insides out" on social media to be consumed by anyone and everyone. But also because you consistently give up your right to privacy and sell yourself as a commodity to marketers and corporate entities. You give them the ability and power to track you and collect every little tidbit of info about you and how you operate, long before you ever understood what you were actually giving away, all as a way to buy access to this vast array of anything and everything all of the time. And what you actually sold off was the key to your own slavery because you continually give that internet demon the knowledge of how to manipulate and market to you. You sell them the knowledge that they turn around and use to manipulate you for their own gain and they know exactly how to do that in such a subtle way that you don't even realize that they are manipulating you. They can so effectively plant thoughts and desires in your brain that you think they are your organic thoughts and desires without ever even questioning them.

His line about apathy and boredom is so spot on. “Apathy is a tragedy” is interesting when juxtaposed against “anything and everything all of the time”: people get outraged about stuff on the internet and yet they don’t stop using it, which would be the only thing that would get the internet based companies to do a better job of stopping the worst of it. And “boredom is a crime” is interesting because once you’re addicted to constant stimulation, or conditioned to it from childhood, you forget boredom is the time thoughts can flow freely and is the space where insights occur. Addiction to the internet is what’s going to make us all more stupid across generations.
