It's not used. The PCM channel on the YM2612 is very limited (CPU driven, Z80 has only 8kB of RAM and cannot really DMA, etc), instead you have an expansion module with not only an extra PWM channel, but also alongside two, pretty beefy at the time CPUs. I don't know if they were used for audio mixing, although I do hear some overlapping samples and stuff...
