Kobalt 80V Battery Chainsaw Demo and Review | Pros/Cons 1 Year Later

I have (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and use (2) 5 AH Batteries. I’m 79 and love NO more having to pull a cord to start a gas-powered chainsaw. My first 80-volt 18" Bar Chain saw with a 5-AH Battery and charger was $400 in Jul 2021. it is still being sold on the Lowes website as of 5/26/2024 - I use them on our Southeast LA farm of 18 acres of tall large pine trees that were devastated by a Hurricane and tornado. On 10 acres of the property, nearly all the trees are down or dead. My chainsaws have been working great and cutting huge logs and trees and logs up to 20"+ and it works great. I also use the 80-volt 10” Pole saw, lawnmower, and Leaf Blower.

There 4 things I want to know when looking for a battery saw>>>>> costs, volts, weight, MPS... All the other ergonomic stuff should be listed after that, and for some reason no one ever mentions MPS,.........

Yes they have one in the 24v lineup. I have no tried it as I already have a DA. Cordless would be nice though if it worked well.

I live in the back county here in VA. Could I carry one of these in my car for a few weeks without worrying about the battery discharging?

Yes I believe you could. Now temperature might affect the battery somewhat but as long as it isn't extremely hot or extremely cold inside you should be ok.

Yes it should have some sort of protection like that.

so the run time for a 80v chainsaw would be ?

I could not give you an honest answer. We have used to to make 15ish cuts on a 8-14" log and the battery didn't discharge enough to start charging again afterwards. We have the 6ah battery however. I would believe you could cut up several trees of this size on the large battery pack.
