OHHHHH! The FENCE is adjustable! Never saw that coming! Now I’ll have to change my opinion of saws with cast in detents, or at least the Kobalt! Y’all did a great job on this review! And I’m sure it’s challenging to video most of these adjustment points! I’ve been impressed with the job this saw does in each episode y’all have released, and it looks like a good deal for the money! Thanks for the shout out, and for showing the world the “nuts & bolts” of this saw! It should also help folks that are considering buying this machine! Looking forward to the next episode! Stay well, stay safe!

I just finished your video and I've got to say, YOU NEED TO BE TEACHING AND SEEN EVERYWHER. I say that because, although you talk fast, you explain very well; the problem with some videos is lack of explanation whereas YOU rock that. See, you've even noticed I spelled everywhere wrong. I thank you for teaching me how to adjust my miter saw, which the reason I just wanted to see how to unhook the saw so it could go up and down. (It's the knob on the back, duh) but you have shown me many more things. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS U AND YOR FAMILY~M`

FYI I just bought this saw and started to zero everything according to your video. I adjusted the red pointers to 0 on left and right when blade was at 90 degrees. the problem was when i had saw set to single bevel it would lock one hash shy of the 0 mark. i had to switch to dual bevel move saw to right to match 0 and leave on dual bevel to get it at 90 degrees. Several calls to kobalt and lowes and realized the manual was incorrect for how to adjust single bevel lock. it is incorrect. there is actually a hole underneath the bevel angle adjustment bolt which the manual points to. you have to adjust bevel lock screw in that hole with 3mm allen key / hex tool. turn either right or left according to whether you need bevel lock to adjust sooner or later. Kobalt and Lowes had no idea about this. Now my bevel lock is spot on at 0 degree. Kobalt put a request in to manufacturer to call me so they can fix manual. I'm all good now thanks. PS i bought my saw Nov 25, 2023 jps

This was a good video. I've used mine for years and didn't know there was a adjust for the zero degree stop. My bigger question is, the right and left haves on my fence are not true with each other. On lomg pieces that span the whole thing it's not an issue, but on short pieces my cut is off a couple degrees. Since it is one piece, what is the fix for this?
@happywoodworking
@happywoodworking 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. That is a strange issue. Since the fence is one piece, it would have to be a factory flaw. When you make a cut using only one side of the fence, you might have to set your miter to compensate. Happy Woodworking!

Great video! But my blade itself is off center from the slot of the deck. My arbor isn’t loose. Any idea on how to adjust it??
@happywoodworking
@happywoodworking 7 ай бұрын
The plate on the deck is adjustable. It's 2 pieces. Each side has screws on the outer edge. If you loosen those screws a bit, each side will move either closer or farther from the blade. If this is not the issue, then I'll have to say I'm not sure. Thanks for watching. Happy Woodworking!
@happywoodworking

If it is off at an angle, it may be something underneath the deck that is out of adjustment.

Hi Russell, enjoyed your video.. but I have another problem. I just bought this Cobalt miter saw on the side of the road very nice and excellent condition. However the little blue tab at the front to change the bevel does not work. Would that just be a bolt possibly tightened too much that's not allowing that arm to release and rotate the blade? I'm sure it has to be something simple. Thanks for all your help!

I really don't understand all the hate for Kobalt and Ryobi. Maybe if you are a contractor that has his tools running 40+ hours a week, then you'd want DeWalt or Milwaukee tools...that cost 3-4 times higher. But as a DYI home builder, I've built a deck, flooring, moldings, trim and baseboard, raised garden beds, kitchen cabinets, shelving, wainscoting, and laundry room shelving all with Kobalt and Ryobi powertools just fine with no issues. I've saved at least $5000 using the store brand (from Lowes and HD) tools....and saved well over $170,000 in home upgrades going DYI over hiring a contractor!

Isn't DIY, great? We love building things for our home and our family and friends. To your point, it is also great to be empowered to fix things ourselves. It may not be for everyone, but we love it! Thanks for your take on the store brands. We don't see a lot about them here on KZbin and that is why we made this video. We imagine there are a lot of folks like us! Thanks for watching and #happywoodworking.

I agree with you. I have all battery powered Kobalt and this exact Kobalt corded miter saw and oscillating saw. I LOVE all of them. I've had people ask me why I don't buy "better" brands. Every one of my Kobalt tools have been performing very well and are worth of maintaining after use, cleaning off the dust and carefully storing them, preferably in their bags or out of the way. That's another think I've had people tease about, wiping down power tools, blowing the bust off with compressed air or vacuum them. As a diy'er, i believe all my Kobalt tools will last a long long time with proper maintenance.

I picked up this saw today, and it does not lock into zero on the bevel, or any other number for that matter? What am I missing here? The floor model saw did not lock into a bevel either, I thought it was broken from people messing with it.
@happywoodworking
@happywoodworking 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The bevel doesn't have positive stop points. You just have to watch the gauge. You can set stop points with the bolts on each side of the dial. Just set them at cuts you make often. Happy Woodworking!

Woodworking Beginner: New - Update. This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work). Tips and Test: It's better to know than not to know. Important to know if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. First option: handle vertical positioned above the saw blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact/ Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch / Evolution Fury3-S / Evolution R255SMS / Metabo HPT C10FSBS / Hitachi C10FSB / Hitachi C10FS. Second optie: handle horizontal positioned above the saw blade / Evolution R185SMS / Evolution F255SMS / Evolution RAGE3R255 SMS3 . (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed). Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand or finger on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing. (test is completed). Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade. The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade. Step-5. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing. Conclusion: Remember this, the test is only about torsion and nothing else how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing, you better not go for that. (the choices are yours).

@happywoodworking

There is a little set screw on the left side near the back of the saw. It's right behind the needle gauge. It's inside of a hole, so you have to have the bevel set just right to see it. I'm thinking about making a video about just that. I get a lot of questions about it. Thanks for watching and Happy Woodworking!

@@happywoodworking I think they changed the manufacturing. My saw doesn't have the adjustable post for preset bevel settings either. The worst part is that everyone I get on the phone for Kobalt is, for the lack of a better word, useless. What I started doing was keeping it in dual bevel, then using an engineering square to line it up. Thank you for responding. I appreciate it. Subbed.
