how do you prevent slippage on this unit ? are there any better belts ?
@happywoodworking
@happywoodworking 3 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. So far the only time I have some belt slipping is when drilling deep holes in really hard wood, like maple. I haven't checked on better belts, but they probably exist. To help with the issue, always get the belt as tight as you can. Happy Woodworking!

Just got mine and one of the mounting corners is broken. Came here to see if its easy to replace the base or just go ahead and send the whole thing back.
@happywoodworking

Thanks for watching. Everything is mounted to the base, and there's raise and lower gears and shafts underneath. You would probably have to disassemble and reassemble the whole thing to replace it. Best idea would be to get them to send you a new one if possible. Happy Woodworking!

Yes, wood stain can potentially kill birds if used on bird houses or feeders, as the chemicals released from the stain, especially when fresh, can be toxic to birds, so it's best to avoid staining bird houses and opt for untreated wood like cedar instead; always check for bird-safe stains if you must stain a birdhouse. Key points to remember: Toxic fumes: The main concern is the fumes released from fresh stain, which can be harmful to birds when inhaled. Choose water-based options: If you must stain, look for water-based stains with low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) as they are considered less toxic. Untreated wood is best: For bird houses and feeders, using untreated cedar or other naturally resistant woods is generally considered the safest option.

Well after getting the two buckets fitting together, the rest was easy after heat forming a couple of sections of 2” pvc pipe to fit my 2.5” hose ends. Actual testing was moderately successful. I found that if the inlet was not perfectly positioned, I’d get some short circuiting directly to the exit and shop vac. With a clean filter, my shop vac will also collapse the buckets if it hits any resistance. I also found it too light weight and would tip over too easily. I was going to anchor to a base with casters and add a large yogurt tub as a shroud at the exit pipe to help isolate the exit, but I ran into a used 35 gal plastic drum in like new condition for only $15. I cut a new top out of 7/16” osb I had available and moved the fittings to it now using the upper 5 gal pail as an exit pipe isolation shroud. It’s working perfectly. Now no short circuiting, no tipping and loads of volume. So far seeing minimal carry over to shop vac. I just happen to have quite a few people locally selling used drums from 15 to 55 gal. I chose the 35 gal as largest I can handle and fit in my shop and because it has a slightly tapered shape that improves the cyclonic action. Overall, I think the double bucket is functional but I think it’s best for smaller shop vacs.

Unfortunately my saw (exact same model) is not miter square no mater the adjustment. I think if I take my dremel and ream out the slots the adjustment screws go in, I can get it square. You get what you pay for I suppose. Seems like a pretty solid saw otherwise.

2:1 ratio oil to wax results in a mixture that I think is too hard. U want more of a paste. Current trends do a 4:1 ratio. Much smoother and softer mixture.

Thanks for watching. I haven't seen anyone use it for sheetrock. That would be handy. The sheetrock dust might be so fine that it would clog the filter too easily. I just don't know if it would be ok or not. Happy Woodworking!

Very good project since it is fairly straightforward and simple. Great advice about the hot glue on the cord knots. I really like these simpler projects with fewer pieces. When i first started woodworking, this was the perfect type of project to learn some basics. May I suggest a very simple birdhouse before the Spring? No dadoes just straight and miter cuts, simple 6 to 8 piece project with a way to clean out. You could put together a great build demo.

Just got my buckets and fittings, planning to use 2” pvc and heat to form them to fit my 2.5” ridgid vac hoses. Anyway, I used a fine tooth blade on my oscillating tool to cut top ring and it did a good job. I wasn’t sure on exactly where to cut top edge so left about 3/8 to 1/2” over that ridge - it does not fit, just a tad too big, so watching this again and stopping a few times between 3:45 - 4:00 minutes, I can now see you cut right at the ridge. So back out to fix my cut line! The rest looks pretty straight forward. Will report back when done.
