2005 - 2006 King Kobe was on a different level , he stand alone.

It's impossible to be better than him because he has the highest level of individual skill, that makes him as good as anybody that's ever played in my opinion. He has arguably the greatest combination of athleticism and skill along with MJ.

This season and the the entire three-season stretch it's part of (04-05, 05-06, 06-07) are bittersweet. Finishing off the upset against Phoenix would've been remarkable. It could've been remembered similarly to the Warriors/Mavs series the year after. But still in all, Kobe shouldn't have been dealing with such a deficit of talent around him. I'll never get why it took so long before the Gasol trade for the organization to build a good team around Kobe. I think they cost themselves at least 1 championship in the process. Kobe was able to drag a lottery team to the playoffs in the WESTERN CONFERENCE in consecutive years, and probably would've done the same in 04-05 if he didn't get injured. Just imagine if he had a good team those years.

I believe this was Kobe at his absolute peak as a player. He won back to back championships in 2009 and 2010 but in my opinion, he was still a great player and still in his prime but he was no longer at his peak. He just obviously had a better team around him, starting with the addition of Pau Gasol. It’s hard to imagine how much better those championship Laker teams would’ve been if they had 2006 or even 2007 Kobe. Also one thing I’ve noticed even more watching Kobe highlights years later, he took a lot of tough, low percentage shots. He was obviously capable of making them, but when you take a lot of difficult or highly contested shots, the odds are that you’re going to miss more than make them. That’s probably the biggest reason why Kobe’s FG shooting percentages were always in the 40’s.

If Kobe woulda had gasol a few years earlier with a prime Odom. They coulda easily beat the Spurs Mavericks or suns during that time. Kobe by himself was either keeping them in games or winning some close games. With a prime gasol running the floor and the triangle with him, they definitely would have been contenders
@JahHoopz4 жыл бұрын
His shot selection was the only thing that i didn't like about his game sometimes. He could've easily shot around 50% if he would score closer to the basket from time to time, but he did say that the shots that you see him take are shots that he practices.

I feel the exact same way about that season being bittersweet. They were a defensive rebound from beating Phoenix in game 6, would have probably beaten the clippers the next round and were actually 2-1 against Dallas that season. If they somehow could have gotten to the finals I think they could have definitely beaten Miami as Kobe would have locked down wade. Ha I’m probably getting a little ahead of myself with all that wishful thinking!

I like the optimism, its much more realistic to say that about 2003 horry’s shot tho. Up 3-2 back to LA. Take down Dallas in wcf and then face new jersey once again. In 06 even seeing Lakers clippers battle LA series would have been enough for me. Prime kobe vs prime elton brand, his dudes maggette, cassell, mobley, etc. Electric atmosphere. LA-LA playoff matchup, something we still havent seen to this day.

@dcshow4 жыл бұрын
Relative to his other 35.4 contributing performances of 2005-06, this was a pretty routine 33 points. Couple uncontested ball screen pull ups, 1-2 iso pulls, 2-3 fades, 4-5 layups on post entries at the rim. Nothing ridiculous or even close to it. Didn’t have to take 30-35 shots to get his points. For 05-06 Kobe, an easy 33. Just another night at the office.
