I think his “retirement” was forced by the NBA because they caught him gambling on games. So they secretly suspended him (or even permanently banned him from the league) and let him go play baseball to stay in shape. But when they saw the abysmal ratings and decline in popularity without him, they brought him back. And there’s a bit of evidence out there to suggest this is the case.
@fredball82402 ай бұрын
@@NewNormalWorldOrder First I have ever heard or read about this...tons of biographies out on him but no mention in any of them of a forced suspension. Losing his Dad in the tragic way it happened impacted him deeply. When he was young his Dad wanted him to play professional baseball. His Dad was a HS star and wore the #45. Trying to deal with the NBA hysteria after his 3-peat (couldn't eat a meal anywhere without interruption), then the untimely and tragic death of his Dad (his mentor and confidant), and a desire to seek a new challenge all converged into his decision to try baseball. He had completely dominated basketball. Other contemporary players were successfully doing two professional sports: Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, Brian Jordan, etc. so it was a thing then. He started off raw but quickly became a polished outfielder and eventually a reliable hitter. He made it up to the AAA level, the final stop before the Majors, when the MLB players went on strike and the owners locked them out - thus cancelling the 1994 season. No more games, no practice venues during the lockout. Nothing left to do..so what next? The lure of coming back and being great again after taking two seasons off. THAT'S what I believe brought MJ back. He had never failed at anything and he wasn't going to fail at baseball either. He would've kept going to the top because it's in his DNA to be the very best. Still tho he was chasing his Dad's dream and although he didn't get the opportunity to say goodbye to his father, that dream had come to an end. There was no telling when that strike would end. So it was fate and Bulls GM Jerry Reinsdorff record salary offer that stepped in.
@irissanders7487Ай бұрын
@@NewNormalWorldOrder ...The Commissioner David Stein said it was not true no matter how many times people wanted to believe that. Jordan was Chicago's franchise so they not letting him go after an investigation was done that found no wrong doing. Get real! And the owner of the Bulls continued to pay him $3 million dollars a year when he left to go play baseball because he said Jordan was underpaid his whole career. @Daveyboy_GolfR Exactly! Considering that the Eastern conference was stacked with the Celtics & Pistons two of the teams that had a stranglehold on the NBA title at the time, you couldn't expect Jordan to defeat those teams singlehandedly, even the Cavs & Bucks were strong teams & Jordan scoring an NBA playoff record 63 wasn't enough to beat the Celtics. That's why it's a team game.

In fact, I know this from memory, From his 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, and 90 playoff series appearances which equaled to 53 games, MJ averaged 36.5/7/7 with 2.6 SPG and 1.1 BPG shooting 51%. There's a reason Kobe modeled his game after MJ, it's bc Jordan was the dude.

Jordan was an average 3 pt shooter, but he was also one, if not, the best mid range shooter of all time... He could have been way better at 3's, but he said he didn't want to depend on 3's because that wasn't his game.

19:20 has anyone noticed how they edited old rookie clips showing moves and then showed the older him still pulling the same moves off?

90% of kobe game is jordan itself. He even said without jordan no him. This student didn't surpass his teacher either. Jordan was absolutely like that in a bigs dominate league with really physical play and hand checking. Eras are not the same. That was the man's era this has been showtime era with less defense and extra step with no contact. Kobe and Bron both top 3 but jordan is just a different breed. Took James 12 years longer twice as long as jordan to get the same numbers. I absolutely adore kobe and replacing iverson as my all time 2nd favorite player was hard. Kobe would maybe win 2 or 3 out of 10 games. Especially if the were both birthed in either of each other's era and kobe actually without jordan to study who would he even of been sooooo

The reason Jordan isn't like that in 2k is simple: 2k is now a bullshit game for middle schoolers. 2k used to be a legit basketball sim that was getting better every year but somewhere in the middle 2010s they figured out they could make more money by concentrating on selling you what amounts to basketball-pokemon, fixing to to collect all these players and cards and badges and abilities, and just repackaging the same same with a new skin every year. Shit is ass, the badge system was the worst thing to happen to 2k, turning on superhero abilities in a basketball game. It's why you can tell who knows ball from watching ball vs those who think they know ball based on 2k ratings.
