The radio call is usually more descriptive than the TV call, especially with a really good radio team, because the audience is blind. The announcer has to create the visual, the atmosphere, the tension with words. Big games were on TV and radio, and we’d turn the TV on with the sound down and listen to the radio broadcast.

how clutch and how good Bird was This game is a perfect example of how clutch Bird was = he loved the pressure and being in a position to beat the other team. People that did not see bird play have no idea how clutch and how good Bird was as a player = Bird as a passer and rebounder and shooter is the best all around player I have ever seen!

I grew up in the Hudson Valley of New York, Larry legend was known as Mr. clutch!!!! Thanks for this one it was fun …. Probably one of my favorite decades the 80s

I really enjoyed the different looks at these plays. Especially the full actual broadcast. Much better than the shorts. Thank you. As some have already said, I think it is possible that what we are listening to is the radio broadcast of the game and the visual game is from the TV broadcast. Several people have commented that they would turn the TV on, turn the sound down and then turn the radio broadcast on so they could hear Johnny Most and his co-announcer.

When I was in college, I met a girl whose last name was Redsleeve. Everyone asked her if she was Native American. She said her name traced back to England to a period where sleeves evidently indicated social position, possibly an occupation. Ive since met several people with surnames involving sleeves.
