When asked if the Redeem Team could beat the Dream Team, Bird said "They probably could. I haven't played in 20 years and we're all old now." 😆😅🤣😂 Yeah, yeah, we all know they're asking about this team in their prime vs that team in their prime, but I just love the smart-ass answer.

@@TheIcemanthomas The 92 vs 96 question is very interesting. Five players were on both teams, and all five made it to the NBA finals *after* the 92 games, so they aged well. Both had 11 HOFers. As assembled, '92 had the disadvantages of Larry's back, Magic's year away, and Laettner's wasted roster spot. In a head-to-head, that might be enough for the '96 team to win a best-of-7 series. But for all-time greats, I think the Dream Team with Michael, Magic, Larry, Ewing, and Clyde still has the greater status compared to Shaq, Dream, Reggie and the Glove. All because of the two big "What If?"...

Thing is the 96 team, Redeem team didn't have the same impact. You can argue about talent, whatever but it wasn't the same because it was been there, done that. Everyone watched the Dream Team. Basketball fans watched the Redeem team.

Man, Alot of people don't know how good Barkley was...Shaq and Ernie always making fun of him. But back then, he was an absolute bulldozer. He would wreck your whole damn team. Thanks for posting this. Magic, Bird, Jordan paved the way for all those other dudes but the 80s and 90s had so much good basketball to remember. So physical. So many great players. Today??? I'm just not buying that alot of these dudes could have survived that type of basketball.

Still seems weird to me. Chuck was the "best player" during their Olympic run. Led in points and rebounds if I remember correctly. He was a monster. He's talked about the confidence he got the next season (the year he got MVP with the Suns).

Please note: that first scrimmage against the college team, was only half a game. And the college kids were only up by 8 points. 4 regular baskets. If you think that the dream team couldn’t have overcome that paltry deficit, yer DREAMING. Especially with Larry Bird who ALWAYS comes alive in the 4th quarter. There’s dunderheads out there who think those college kids were killing the Dream Team but that’s just asinine. Chuck knew what he was doing. He kept Jordan out on purpose, and he stopped it at the half game mark bcuz he knew that the Dream Team would assuredly win if they played the whole game and his goal was to humble that team & make them listen to him so they would play as a TEAM.

From a story I read before about Bird in his Front Office days at the Indiana Pacers: Former Pacers forward Jalen Rose once called Bird a “god” during Larry Legend’s coaching days. The same probably applied to players on Indiana’s roster in the early 2010s. Paul George and the Pacers could not believe their eyes when Bird started casually hoisting jumpers in the middle of a practice. Nor did they know how to react when their general manager immediately left the gym thereafter. During a 2013 interview with Slam Magazine, George remembered just how awestruck he felt in seeing a 50-something Bird make 15 consecutive shots. “[Bird] picked a ball up that had rolled over. He rolled up his sleeves and made about 15 in a row and just walked out like nothing just happened. It was the craziest thing I’ve seen.” -PAUL GEORGE (2013), VIA SLAM MAGAZINE George’s teammates shared his amazement. He said the entire team looked around with puzzled expressions, wondering if they should even keep shooting. “We were speechless. We didn’t know whether to keep shooting or just to end practice. It was sweet, man.” -PAUL GEORGE (2013), VIA SLAM

Your perceptions of Magic aren't completely right. Magic had HIV and couldn't play in the NBA. There were a lot of players that were afraid of playing with him. Larry was talked into it by Magic and part of the reason he agreed was to help Magic. MJ wanted to prove he was the best player. Remember he never beat Bird and the Celtics in playoffs. He had all the individual honors but they were still ahead on chips.

Fun fact, one of the major factors in that last amateur Olympic team losing to the ussr was the dominance of the great Ardvidas Sabonis. He was giving David Robinson that work. He would’ve been a beast in the league had the USSR allowed him to come to the US around that time instead of a decade later when he was older and past his prime. He was drafted to those Portland teams with drexler. Could’ve been an all time duo.

I hate to admit but this was for the first time, this was the only part of the 92 Olympics I watched.

this should be shown in every NBA locker room to show them what you can do when you put your egos away and play as a team. Would have loved to have watched this with you, we could have had one great conversation. Don't take this wrong. I am an 80 year old ugly old white woman who lives in assisted living and have neither the energy nor the inclination to be a stalker. 😁😁 I love basketball and Larry, Magic and Sir Charles in that order.. Favorite NCAA coach was Coach K and Duke was my team then. So please consider this a compliment. I appreciate your knowledge of today's game and I lived through these guys careers and the Dream Team. Thanks for reacting to this.

Unfortunately 1992 came too late for one of the greatest basketballer of all time: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar! That was the only player I really missed on that roaster! 😍

The attention that the Dream Team received the entire time that they were there doesn't shock me. These guys are the greatest basketball players in the entire world! Absolutely dynamic on the court ....riveting to watch...Why would the attention dissipate?! Lol. On the way to the last game....the Croatian teams bus pulled over so that the Dream Team could go by them in deference to them and their stature! I mean that is a major statement!

@@BU_TV The Bird-Magic-Jordan era was the golden era of NBA basketball no load management despite the league being much more physical. What Jordan had to go thru against the Pistons - players today would get kicked out of the league.
