That's what makes it hard to compare people with autism to each other (at least in my opinion) because it shows itself in different forms. As another with Autism, even a small group isn't going to be a good representation of the entire spectrum since each of us can be very different from each other. Some can be very familiar with certain topics that interest us, some can be sensitive to bright light and loud sound, and some may talk very little or not at all, just as a few examples of how we vary. We shouldn't be a touchy subject to talk about when some of us can and have helped in multiple fields throughout history.

A quick note for those interested. Autism is a developmental disorder. Moreover, it's a collection of disorders that can have varying effects on your life. Sometimes it's not bad and other times it can affect quality of life. On the other hand, sociopathy and psychopathy are personality disorders and not developmental disorders and are not disabilities. For example, a sociopath may not respond appropriately to various social cues not because they don't understand it rather don't care while an autistic person may not respond well to social cues but not because they don't care, but because they genuinely don't understand. Guys please be respectful of the difference between developmental disorders and personality disorders. I'm autistic and franky I'm tired of sociopaths bundled together with us.

A chair is a piece of furniture with a raised surface used to sit on, commonly for use by one person. Chairs are most often supported by four legs and have a back; however, a chair can have three legs or could have a different shape. A chair without a back or arm rests is a stool, or when raised up, a bar stool. A chair with arms is an armchair and with folding action and inclining footrest, a recliner. A permanently fixed chair in a train or theater is a seat or, in an airplane, airline seat; when riding, it is a saddle and bicycle saddle, and for an automobile, a car seat or infant car seat. With wheels it is a wheelchair and when hung from above, a swing. A chair for more than one person is a couch, sofa, settee, or "loveseat"; or a bench. A separate footrest for a chair is known as an ottoman, hassock or pouffe. The chair is known for its antiquity and simplicity, although for many centuries it was an article of state and dignity rather than an article of ordinary use. "The chair" is still extensively used as the emblem of authority in the House of Commons in the United Kingdom and Canada, and in many other settings.

Idk, as someone actually on the Autism Spectrum since I've been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (although I've been told by like 12 people that I'm not considered on the Spectrum, and like 14 that I am lol. They seem to change the classification with each new edition of the DSM or whatever)... I don't think "normal people can have Autism." It's similar to how part of my Asperger's diagnosis is I have "mild OCD-tendencies" but I do NOT have OCD. You might have some tendencies, or a symptom or two of Autism, but you don't ACTUALLY have diagnosis-level Autism. Something like 9/13 symptoms or whatever, which depending on which website you look at, I had like 9/13, or 11/12... Or whatever. (To be clear, I have seen multiple professionals since. I did NOT simply self-diagnose from a website and claim that as fact. Although my pediatrician thought I had ODD, which apparently Asperger's is often misdiagnosed as... I saw a professional, got the correct diagnosis, applied for disability and saw their professional, or maybe it was the career center's professional, idr, but they also agreed I have Asperger's, and my previous doctor I replaced my idiot pediatrician with, and my current, competent doctor, all agree I have Asperger's.)

I mean, autistic people can be normal. In our own way we are. Its like the whole society are sorcerers and we are wizards, we may be strange by their definition but normal by ours. Asperger is not an used term anymore tho

Yeah. At first glance, seeing all the wishy-washy nature can easily make someone irritated with psychology and medicine and the DSM and whatnot, because can't they just get it STRAIGHT, PLEASE?! But when you step back and think about it...life ain't so nice and neat to give us super easy categories. People really can be partway between what we decided to call "autistic" and what we consider the average or "normal". Or really anywhere along that scale. The realization of this inherent messiness in nature has brought about the term "Autism Spectrum", now trying to better account for how nature ACTUALLY works, and not trying so hard anymore to fit every single person's weird hangups and brain activity into nice neat boxes with no overlap. Life's always gonna throw us curveballs, so we'd better learn how to react to 'em when we get 'em. The only alternative is deliberately ignoring reality and pretending people aren't the way they are...which can only ever cause harm. Sorry to get ranty. I'm on that "spectrum" my own self (although by a strict definition so is literally every human. I mean I'm closer to the autistic side than the normal side :P), and this is one of the things I think about a lot. Also Vtubers. Obviously :P

Well, by definition, if you have autism, I guess you arent "normal", or rather you arent neurotypical if you want to be precise about it (which I do because I am also on the spectrum so my brain will punch me if I dont pick the most accurate wording it can think of at any time) But what I think they meant was that many people, despite their autism, dont come off as particularly strange, or dont "look autistic" (a phrase most commonly used by those who know fuckall about any of it). And that can be entirely true for a variety of different reasons ranging from masking to being relatively well adjusted socially to just not having to live in a society deadset on misunderstanding you. So, depending on how its meant, sure, "normal people" can have autism too, unless neurotypicality is a requirement for being normal. Small endnote btw: I'm fairly sure that if aspergers was still in use when I got my diagnosis, that would probably have been what theydve called me too, but since it all got shuffled into the spectrum, that was my diagnosis. Despite that tho, I'll generally just tell ppl I've just got Autism, because it saves me the explanation.

Hard to say if we don't even know what kind of normal we're talking about. I mean, the fact that autism is more of a spectrum than an actual disability makes her statement right and wrong at the same time. Shure, there are common behaviours but even stereotypes aren't allways right. Because of that, normal people can still act autistic even though they aren't. At the same time, some autists (me included) can hide this side of them through masking so others are suprised when they find out. Looking at it like that, Kobo's statement is kinda right and wrong at the same time. I for example have the intelligence to adapt to other people to "blend in" and most of the people I know probably wouldn't have thought I had autism until I'd decide to tell them. The other way around, some people who may behave like a stereotypical autistic person don't neccesarily have to be diagnosed with it and are just anti social weirdos not knowing how to deal with emotions, feeling uncomfortable around too much people and so on. Does this make any sence? I'm trying hard to explain what I have in my mind rn and my limited english skills makes it much harder for me so plz tell me if you understand what I'm trying to say...😅

@@Gaming.Gamer. I understand what you're saying. It's very similar to what I was saying with my own comment. My point was that when you look at how people actually are, there's a whole spectrum of possibilities, rather than two or three nice neat boxes. When I add in your point, things get even MORE complicated, because not everyone LOOKS like they're on the part of that normal-to-autistic spectrum that they actually are. So even after bypassing "some people are different than they appear to be at first glance", things are STILL super messy and complicated. This is why it's so silly for people to keep insisting on coercing people into the nice neat boxes that our brains love so much. But it's also understandable, because, well...our brains love them so very much. I always try my best to remember that as nice as they are, they're not actually real, and paying attention to reality is far more important to me than my own feelings of "I'm glad these humans are neatly sorted and simple to understand". That sort of thinking seems nice but can really hurt people. It's important to practice fighting that impulse whenever it comes up.

As of the release of DSM5 (it's possible that it may have been standardized sooner, but this is the earliest official stance to my knowledge), sociopathy and psychopathy are not regarded as separate conditions. Psychosis is a specific symptom and is unrelated to either sociopathy or psychopathy (in that psychosis is not a signature symptom, nor the defining symptom when making a diagnosis); presently, the correct term is Antisocial Personality Disorder. So, everything that Kobo was taught is wrong in regards to that.
