A Kodachrome looking ccd Sensor made by Kodak for the Olympus E-500 DSLR Camera for that 35mm Film Look. ** All of the photos in today's video are "STRAIGHT OUT OF CAMERA JPEGS"
Kodak once made "That Film Look" camera ccd sensors for Olympus and Leica M8 & M9 (and a few others).
Let's look at the photographs from the Olympus E-500 which has a Kodak ccd sensor that can pass for Kodachrome film!
*History of CCD Sensors;
The CCD was invented in 1969 at Bell Labs by Willard Boyle and George Smith. Since that CCD was sensitive to light it was used as image sensor for video and TV cameras. It could also be used as a memory device or analogue signal delay since it's principally a kind of analogue shift-register circuit.

Oh man, these 4/3 “vintage” digital cameras are so underrated it’s not even funny. Loved your review here of the Olympus. Two card slots….cool…and that CCD sensor….wow. I recently got a Digilux 3 and I’m stunned at the images it puts out. I use full frame Canons and L lenses for my wedding work, but the 4/3 Leica easily rivals the full frame Canon output. Low light situations might reveal the weakness of the 4/3 but since I use flash all day long, I might get one for my Leica and go for it.

Hi! First, thank you for taking the time for making this video. You had a part in my photographic Journey and are one of few deciding factors that made me go out and buy one. I await an E500 eVolt (I drive a Chevy Volt lol) that should arrive Monday May 15/23. The kit I found was in Quebec, Canada on Marketplace for $ 200.00 CDN ($ 142.00 USD) and it included: Olympus eVolt e500 DSLR camera in perfect condition with bag, compact flash card, two XD cards, tripod lens 14-45 and 40-150 UV lens and protective lens battery and charger, sunscreen and instruction manual. I had sold my Nikon DSLR years ago and went to Sony. I have had three of their cameras and have sold the last one a month ago. I enjoy wildlife and am hoping to get a better telephoto lens for this camera for shooting from my Kayak, hiking and Camping. Could you suggest one or two lens that I should look out for that work well with the E-500?

I get it this Thursday and will be out shooting late Thursday afternoon. I will post a video on my results with this camera and send you a link :). Thank you again. Hi Carmine, I just bought mine two weeks ago, i have an e-300 with all the kitlenses for under 100 Euro; the sensors of the e-500 and e-300 are close to the E-1, which i originally wanted to buy, but the e-300 was a steal... Yes, you are right, this is the only type of digital that makes me want to shoot, the colors , the rendition, but also the challenge ;)

Hello. I enjoy this and your other videos a lot. Because of this particular one, I just bought an E-400, with a 10 megapixel Kodak CCD. I already love the photos I get from my wonderful 5 mpx Konica Minolta 7D. They have a special and beautiful colour and character but never thought that, besides the Minolta glass, it was also the result of the CCD sensor. So, now, I'm very excited to try my new Olympus E-400. Best regards

Just picked up an E-500 for $62, complete with 14-45mm zoom. Great camera, love the colours. The only thing is, there are not many original Four Thirds lenses available here in the UK. I had the E410 back when it came out, with the 25mm 2.8. Wish i still had that lens…..not easy to find now. Great video; thankyou!

Hey Carmine, i recently bought a Nikon D300 and 7000s from a fellow on Craigslist for $300. When I met him, he included a couple lenses and vertical grips and backpack but in the pack he tossed in an E-500 with the kit lens gratis. I played around with the E500 and was amazed by the color rendition and the quality of the pics i have taken with it. I like all 3 cameras but the Olympus was a sleeper surprise and i intend to use for street photography. The only thing i am missing is a charger and a spare battery or two which i will to look for to give me a nice lightweight system. Your videos inspire me to work on taking better photos both digital and film.

Love your video Carmine. I was lucky enough to buy one of these, with the 2 kit lenses for only 30 bucks!!! An incredible camera so I invested in the Zuiko 25mm f2,8, the 50mm F2,0 macro and the 14-54mm f2,8-3,5. I'm hooked! Now I also managed to get my hands on an E-300, a C-8080 and a C-5060. I would love to see more from you on these Olympus CCD camera's!!!

Kodak please develop a MFT camera with CCD sensor, it does not need to be lowlight capable, no AF, no flippy screen, no slowmo, but your CCD sensor (global shutter cinematic look), even 2K would be enough. Call it Cinechrome!

I have the full kit purchased new in 2004. I added the 50mm F1.2 lens. Amazing images. Another that is very good is the Fuji Finepix S7000. I had 3 bodies but only one left. The images from that enlarge to 16x20 with excellent color and detail Dont know why so good...do you??? Thanks ...great videos.

Hi Carmine, just received my E-500 today. Got it with the 2 kit lens. Initially not impressed, especially because it has no IBIS. I was shooting indoors but it was during the day, so there was light. The pictures came out slightly blurry and not sharp. I found out after a while this camera need lots of light for the pictures to shine. Best for outdoors. For indoors, using the pop up flash is pretty good. I did managed to get some colorful pictures. Hope this Kodak CCD sensor is for real. BTW what picture setting you use to produce the best colors? I love older cameras and love your videos. Problem is having too many.

Nikon D200 - D40 - D40x - D80 - D3000 (bigger screen) are all equipped with the great CCD Kodachrome sensor. The CCD 10Mp pixel sharpness and detail output can be compared with a 18-24mp cmos sensor.

@@daktarioskarvannederhosen2568 it’s about the same…same deep vibrant colors. The Sony Alpha series even had a 14mp CCD before switching to cmos. I have one but the mirror is less damped than on Nikon resulting in blurry images in -125th slower shutter speeds

The e500 takes a four thirds mount lens. Not to be confused with a micro four thirds mount. Hope this helped.

I'm really trying hard _not_ to buy one of these. 😂This may be an odd question, but how do you decide which camera and lens to take out each time? I find myself with a growing collection of vintage cameras, and while it's usually clear to me which film camera to take when I feel like shooting film, I find it much harder to figure out which digital camera to grab. And any thoughts on _storing_ cameras for easy access? Thanks!

There is no rhyme or reason as to what camera to select and shoot. It's just an impulse..lol
