You make videos sometimes that resonate with me in a strange way. This is one of those videos. Really amazing. Very enlightening and inspiring.

Love doing research so did a little. From Kodak's data sheet: ""Spatial Frequency," refers to the number of sine waves per millimeter that can be resolved." Double-X has 100 cycles/mm and a resolution of 100 lines/mm, so despite seeming no resolution information on Vision3, can conclude a softer resolution. Meaning, neither would produce sharp enlargements of a large size. Hope this helps, Adriel

Thank you that does help and stands to reason since motion stock is intended as composite, moving images instead of being a single image.

Thank you for this - I was starting to experiment with the 500T film used as B&W and I wasn’t really happy with the results I got in a few developers. As you mention, I will need to adjust my expectations and a find an appropriate application that incorporates it’s unique “look”. Maybe pinhole photography…. we’ll see.

I know you say you hate ilfosol 3 but you definitely have liked it a few times recently like you said I bought a small bottle of it to trial as it's pretty cheap where I am (Ilford's headquarters is 42 miles from my home!) And I'm really loving it. I'm enjoying most of the results I'm getting.

Yeah, the results with it in the recent videos in this series are definitely making me question if I was wrong to dislike it before. As a stand chemistry, too, it can be pretty spectacular.

It’s crazy, but all of the developers you said were great, I hated those shots (wayyyy too contrasty) while of the developers you said were bad, I LOVED those shots. So much character! ❤️

:D That's a-okay. Aesthetic tastes are completely subjective and this is exactly why I try lots of developers and share as many results as I can.

This gave me the idea to x-process Five Below’s color film, which is Kodak V3-50D, for use in the Pentax 17. Five Below film is 10 exposures so it’s perfect for a half frame. What do you think would be better as a developer HC110 or Rodinal?
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 24 күн бұрын
I am not a fan of Rodinal at all. I do like HC-110 (though I use the somewhat chemically different LegacyPro L110.)

I think the remjet issue is overhyped. A remjet remover recipe can be found on line and it can be used over snd over and seems to store well. I was surprised not to see XTOL, or did I miss it? I think it's gorgeous.
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock Жыл бұрын
Yes and no on the remjet. It's not hard to remove, but if it's not handled properly it will definitely mess up film. For XTOL, I may not have used it with this stock. There was a while where I wasn't using it solely because I didn't have a five-liter container to store the stock in.

@@DavidHancock I just dissolve it in 4L anyway as SUPER DUPER stock and calculate accordingly for dilutions. Seems to work totally fine.

Do you think the remjet residu might have impacted your over film developments and, hence, your preview film stock videos reviews ?
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 2 жыл бұрын
I doubt it, at least not for a long time. I stopped shooting with this, actively, in 2019 or 2020 and learned the hard way that it could affect my film in 2012 or 2013, so I've segregated the dear I use to develop it for about a decade. It may have contributed some dirt spots to some shots in my first couple of these, but not likely anything in recent memory.

Kodak Vision 3 250D is my favourite filmstock, but shot at ISO125 and developed the "right way" at Silbersalz35 in Germany 😁

I have had very noisey results with visions stocks. I am going to try 50d before the summer is done.. I have developed others in basically every type of developer, ECN-2, C41, E6, and many black and white developers.. I have had results that are good, if that is the style you want.. I have also found that over exposing, and under developing makes for better scans..
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 2 жыл бұрын
Motion stocks tend to be higher grain than still stocks as a rule. This is because with a still image we study them and see the same photo for many seconds whereas with motion we're seeing around 23 images per second so the grain pretty much melts away. So the motion stock aesthetic for still images is definitely much different.

@@DavidHancock I do like the film, and for the price it has been great for experiments with developers. Some of my favorite photos have been taken with variations of it..

Yeah, I messed with this stock as well, but I wowed to never deal with rem jet ever again - it is simply not worth it. I've done both, B&W and C-41 cross processing. Some of the best results I had were with C-41 with color shifts and cyan/blue shifts. IMO, this film is just not suited for B&W. I'd take XX or Tri-X over it any time. Great video though - thanks!
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I would also take XX over this as much for image character as for easy of developing.

i need a explanation on "TMax 100 developing times when exposed at 250 ISO". Does that mean "Tmax100 at EI100 development time" -or- "Tmax100 at EI250, therefore with pushed times" ??? Thanks :-)

What does it look like if processed as a b&w slide film? Is that possible?
@alfepalfe
@alfepalfe 2 жыл бұрын
I am guessing yes but since it is colored red it may not look the best in a projector.
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 2 жыл бұрын
This would not work as a reversal film for projection because the base is red. I didn't try processing it reversal for digitizing, but it's possible that could be interesting as the colored base reduces contrast.

Great series and this topic is relevant to me right now. I have four rolls of Vision 3 ready to develop. Three I shot at ISO 250 and one I pushed to 400. Based on what you've presented I may X-process the pushed roll with Tmax times using DF96 monobath. (Your thoughts?) The others I will process as C41 after remjet removal. You did not state, but did you removed the REMJET with a high PH solution with baking soda? Or any pre soak? Just wondering. Thanks again for your effort producing this content.
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I think there's a section in here on removing the remjet with a water rinse after the fixing cycle. It should be linked in the video's description.
@gavinjenkins899
@gavinjenkins899 9 ай бұрын
Using only water for remjet is pretty bonkers. You could at least use baking soda if nothing else, you're not gonna kill a marine ecosystem or something with... baking soda. You could even neutralize it with vinegar before putting it in the drain if you really wanted.
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 9 ай бұрын
I'll try that if I have this stock again. I forget which chemical my lab used, but it was not one I wanted to handle.
@gavinjenkins899
@gavinjenkins899 9 ай бұрын
@@DavidHancock the official kodak recipe which is probably what they used is a combination of borax, sodium sulfate, and a little lye. The bases help to dissolve the remjet glue which is designed to loosen in basic conditions, the sulfate is a binder to make sure they all interact maximally. Baking soda is less targeted and has no special binder, but is basic so more effective than water. Yes the developer is also basic, but if you're wiping it down after fix like you said, by THAT point, it's acidic (or neutral I guess after a lot of washing), so you can get it back down to basic this way, which should make it slough off a lot easier after a minute or so of soaking. And prior during development, the base is there but not the wiping.
