Yesterday, Feb 17th, I bought a Fujica Half. Such an amazing machine. Auto mode, or aperture and exposure control, focus control and a timer for selfies. So much on such a small pack. I simply love Half Frame Cameras

Have you owned one previously?

Thanks for the review, I was looking at this camera for a while. It is cool and fun, the only hold back is an absence of control.

I would agree, but that is kind of the point, imo.

I have the Ektar H35, and while it was fun at first, I am not a fan overall - locked at f9.5, and unable to change focus. I also have the Olympus Pen EES-2 which is also a half frame as you mentioned, and only slightly more expensive. The Pen is able to shoot full auto, focus ranges, and about the same size - you don't always realize how high quality half frames can be until they're properly exposed and in focus. I still use my H35 occasionally, but it mostly sits on my shelf these days :) great video

Definitely, the problem is the reliability to find a decent working, at a good price!

I think the Ektar camera is certainly capable of making excellent photos--as your examples in this video showed us. And I like half-frame cameras in general. But this one is not a camera I will own. Mostly because I definitely want more control. And because I strongly prefer glass lenses for my cameras. Add to that my liking for old cameras and I have tons of options for cameras that would serve me better. I also own (have had mine for 2 decades now) an Agat 18k camera so I don't actually need another half-frame camera. The Agat is tiny, has a glass lens, is scale focus, and a wider range of film speed settings. Easily found at the same price as the Kodak. That said, I do hope the Ektar is successful since good sales of new film cameras will be good for all of us in my opinion. Thanks for the video!

My favorite is the Lomo LC Wide. It can alternate between half frame and full frame 135. With a 17mm/24mm glass (?) lens. It also makes for fun panoramas when mixing with the framing setting and advance setting

Here's something interesting. "Half frame" 4-perf framing is actually a cinema full frame. The 8-perf "full frame" 35mm crop is actually a double frame and popularized by Leica

I have a Yashica Samurai and it makes for a fun shooting experience. Not sure how to feel about half frame resolution though.

Yeah, seems like most people think it feels obtuse, and I can't blame them for that, haha.

If you are looking for one with more control, check out the Canon Demi EE17. It is a range finder with half frame. Love the this channel BTW Keep up the good work 👍

demi ee17 does not have a rangefinder it is zone focus.

I got an original olympus pen ee for the same reasons and the small frame counter is an issue on that too, can never tell what frame you are up too (especially when you want to take Diptychs)

Yeah, seems to be the main issue with many of them, haha.

If you are a beginner film photographer be ready to be disappointed with this camera. You are better off with a p&s from 90s. This one really really bad.

Yep, I bought it and expected it to produce at least as good quality photos as my childhood family camera which was brandless, cheap, and low end. Nope, the pictures came out unexpectedly bad, which I actually didn't hate. The vibe was interesting but I wouldn't want to waste another roll of film to replicate it. They looked almost monochrome. I think the lab tried to bring out contrast which was very poor, which messed up the color. I then went and ordered a couple of cheap old cameras: one with fully fixed settings from 1989 and one automatic one from 2000. I'll enjoy comparing the results.

@@wintrymix The main issue with plastic trash is the f/11 lens. It craves light. I lent my friend my Fujica Auto 7 for a month, and he was pleased with the results. However, he admitted that his Ektar H35 practically extinguished his enthusiasm for film photography.

@@jaydraws2019 I'm not sure it's entirely the aperture at fault. Old fixed settings cameras have f9 apertures (this one is actually f9, not 11) and give much nicer results. Maybe it's the plastic at fault? But disposables have plastic and I've gotten some better results with those, plus plastic is the look people are trying to get. Anyway, we'll see. I don't want high quality. But I want something equivalent to my childhood photos.

This camera needs to be $20 so badly. I can’t justify this at its MSRP when I could just order another canon demi
@jasonzayas54876 ай бұрын
Blows my mind that people are recommending this camera. It's not as "pocketable" as people try to make you believe and like someone up above in the comments already said, if you're a beginner to film, don't buy this camera. Buy a bulky point and shoot from the 80s or 90s point and shoot for $25.

Oh boy those examples of what half frame is are so wrong. Like it’s already separated into four perforations, which is what half frame is. Normal 35mm is 8-perf and half frame is four. What you’re showing is 2-perf which is Techniscope.
