As someone who only just started shooting 120mm film and who literally questioned every single one of his few body skills while trying to make the small paper strip at the end of an exposed 120mm roll STICK, you have no idea how helpful that pixelated half second of licking that strip was to me. Of course, it's not exlained anywhere, so THANK YOU.

After shooting a few rolls of Gold 200 (120) I would agree it is more of a 160 in terms of light sensitivity. Shooting at box speed leads to underexpose. I love the grain and colors, though magenta is noticeable, also probably due to under exposure. One thing I don't like is that the film is extremely difficult to scan on a flatbed. It is very thin and retains its curl and unlike other film stocks refuses to lay flat. That said I will use it but expose it as a 160 film. The browns and blacks are very rich, like Portra 800. The grain is very pleasing and the reds pop.

I probably shot a ton of Gold 100 in my Mamiya 645 1000s back when. Then those friggin Hunt brothers devised a scheme to try to corner the market on silver and film prices doubled. Don't think I ever shot any in 35mm. Well, maybe one time. I got an Olympus M-2 with their Zuiko 50mm lens and I tested a roll of Gold 100 in it. I didn't know that 35mm could produce such wonderful "creamy" tones. They were made for each other and the result was shear beauty. But, I had already moved on to medium format. I have two M-2 cameras still sitting in my camera cabinet along with all the other cameras I have owned during my 62 years in photography. Not that many. I only bought new equipment when it could help me do something that I couldn't do with what I already owned. I still have my Mamiya with three lenses. Oh, and I think I have an Olympus M-2 stuck back somewhere, too.

Yo Jason, I've been binging your videos up and down over the last weeks, and I really want to give you my compliments. Not sure what I love the most about your videos...is it your upbeat humour? Is it that furry potato you call a dog? Or is it simply your pictures, that certainly make me feel like I'm not the worst photographer out there... Who knows. Anyways, I'm more than ready to plunge right into an unhealthy parasocial relationship! Are you? For real, though: You've been motivating me tons to get back into analogue photography and trying out medium format for the first time. You're great at what you're doing (both the photography and the videography) and I hope that you'll be doing it for a long time to come.

Dear Jason, Kodak made a mistake not throwing you in the testpool before they released this film. Your review is the best I have seen and have to laugh every video you produce. So informative and funny at the same time is really hard to nail. Also don't listen to your doctor and keep the dew up, baxter indeed will remember you as the aerochrome nerd you are.

25 years ago, I shot a lot of color negative in 120 format. I used Fuji Reala for the serious stuff, and Gold 100 for the rest. Reala went bye-bye, and I stayed with Gold. Gold 200 looks to be just a speed enhanced update to Gold 100, his shots with an expired roll of unknown storage history notwithstanding. Gold 200 falls neatly between the high saturation and popping colors of Ektra and the flat, low saturation of Portra, which is relatively unsuitable for many of its uses today, but is easy to scan. Portra has lower grain than Gold, but in a 120 format size negative, the differences are trivial. Gold 200 - 120 is going to do very well as a cheaper replacement for Portra outside the studio.

Not that it matters, but Michael Spencer Jones, the photographer who shot most of Britpop's Oasis' cover sleeves has been posting outtakes from their "Be Here Now" record cover shoot. He said he thought about going medium format, but instead used a 35mm Contax SLR with a rare Carl Zeiss lens and you guessed it...Kodak Gold. Great vid, Jason.

And even with Kodak Gold prices having doubled in the last 2 years, 120 is still 2x as expensive as 35mm where I live. And in another 1-2 years the Gold 120 will be as much as Portra 120 right now.

I wonder if they will release aerogold - the cheaper version of aerochrome, cheap as in 20$ a roll or sth. or maybe just release any of the c41 films they have on the catalog already. in my local shop the spot where 35mm portra 400 used to be has like an half-inch of dust already. still love kodak tho
