Thank you, James, for the tour of this Lost Places area. Photographs of this type document the so-called 'aesthetics of decay'. I can understand how valuable every shot is when you take analogue photos. It even makes sense to think about whether or not to take a photo. And an accidentally unused negative film in the camera can be annoying ;-). I remember an episode of misadventure: Years ago (when I was still taking analogue photographs) my camera accidentally fell from my wrist into a shallow sand pond (during a stay in Mauritius). I was able to get it out again, but it was no longer functional. The trigger was blocked. I couldn't take any more photos. Later it was an adventurous undertaking to get the negative film out of the camera without exposing the photos that had already been taken. I had to hide under several blankets to get enough darkness to carefully rewind the film spool and remove it from the camera. And I managed it successfully, despite considerable breathing difficulties ;-). However, I still mourn the loss of the camera to this day because it couldn't be repaired even afterwards. Greets from afar - Monika

Yeah, I had to be a lot more selective about what to take photos of as with digital I would have just shot endlessly haha. And wow, that must have been heartbreaking. I fortunately have not experienced anything so bad as that yet… but I suppose it's only a matter of time 😅 At least you managed to get the negatives out safely!

Fascinating history in the referred blog. I can imagine there must be wrenching stories from that post-war period. More recently, one can only wonder what was behind the recent RIP Sticky graffiti. Thanks for sharing this. And FWIW, I too have shot an entire roll of 36 without noting if the rewind lever was turning while I advanced. Indeed, it only took that once. Cheers!

Yeah, you don’t often find buildings vandalized with graffiti in Tokyo, but this place was covered in it! A very interesting place! And glad to hear I’m not alone 😅 my heart sank when I realized I hadn’t captured any of the photos thought I had… you live and learn 💪

What’s the green line on the right hand side? At first I thought it was just a bit of CA from the first photo but it’s on all of them.🤔

YES, shooting blanks happened to me one time! I didn't have film in the camera at all! I tried to go back and shoot what I shot but couldn't remember all of what I shot!

Ah, that must have been disappointing… I was so disheartened when I realized what had happened hehe 😅. That is one nice thing about digital. There's never any doubt if you took the photo or not. You just have to live and learn. I still love shooting film though haha
