Kodak Vision 3 500T - How to convert and grade your film scans using Davinci Resolve

In this video I'll be showing you how to take scanned film negatives (specifically Kodak Vision 3 500T motion picture film) and how to convert them into a positive image ready for display. I'll also touch on a few things in Davinci Resolve that may make your workflow easier.

There’s a 1D LUT build in Resolve for inverting images.

Thanks for the info. I've tested it and for some reason using the inversion LUT has a shift that sits a bit darker than the manual inversion. I find that when I did it I had to open up the shadows more. I'll have to do a deep dive on this so I can figure out why it's happening.

Great video but there is a negative to linear LUT for scanned negatives. It’s cintel negative to linear. You should be using that LUT over curves.

Yeah I tested that as my first attempt, as well as the direct inversion LUT. I found that I've been getting better results while using the inversion through curves.

Do you know what scanner your lab used?

They used the Noritsu HS 1800 . I asked them to scan as is so I can do my own conversion. I found that when they inverted them they chose a bit of a bias. Also when scanning at home I use my Fujifilm XT3
