Judan 10th Dan Kyuzo Mifune, in this video Mifune has 63 year old, they make it look so easy, but idont think so, this Ukes are also 6 , 7, 8 dan, and this video is a demostration no a randori o tournament, this is in Japan Kodokan institute.
Un mago el veterano!!! flaco, bajo y sin embargo los ursos caían como moscas. Gran equilibrio y decisión en el momento de actuar.

Thanks for posting this video. It may be dated, but the techniques are timeless and so well executed! If you know the names of the throws you don't really have to understand Japanese... thanks to the repeated slow motion throws you can see what is going on very clearly. This is a 9.5 on 10. imho

Hey guys, thanks for this video. The more I see vintage videos like this one, Mifune or Kano, with Judo fundamentals, I cannot understand why competitive judo nowadays is more and more strenght... Shouldn´t we have less strengh and more "JU" (softness) winning the world championships? Can somone explain this? Rgds Ariel (from Brazil)

ZEN DIHN I think that is mostly because of the "deportivisation" of judo,it jeopardized the martial perspective of judo and turns it into a wrestling, more than a martial art with a vast deep knowledge of the body motion.

+Germán Rivas You say that because you have no idea about Judo. Judo nowadays is better than ever before. Top Judo athletes have both perfect technique and strenght. It just doesn't look as soft as in these videos because Kano and Mifune have cooperative partners. But without grip fight and feinds or real preparation these guys stand no chance against an An Baul or a Nagase or Loic Pietri

+Thomas Judo Judo is named the gentle way for a reason. Strength wasn't suppose to be the primary focus, barely secondary at that. You must of did not see Mifune sparring sessions with his students. He wasn't off balance or didn't have to go down with the opponent to the ground. With ease he demonstration great execution of the techniques. Not using strength but momentum, body awareness, and timing. Not one technique he struggled. You are watching a true master. Modern judo cannot even comprehend the gentle way.

Holy_Inferno Modern judo is far more complex than this! Its so complex that its for the untrained eye impossible to see. All the little feints for example, that even some black belts dont notice. This demonstration would not be usable in competition like this, because everything is too obvious. Technique > strength, but technique&strength > only technique, thats what you dont understand. The top athletes trained more technique in their life than every oneof us, and analyzed more competitions and fights than the old masters would be able to. Judo develops! Train your eyes my friend

I keep trying to see if they have a tatami or if they are throwing eachother on a wooden floor, in that case I feel bad for them haha, even though they know how to fall.

It is great to see the old master but judo has moved on the the Japanese have lost their dominance in Judo. Judo is a dynamic art/sport/martial art and it will always improve and adapt with the new decades and new champions will emerge and dominate the sport and some of them will be Japanese. I miss the old Japanese champions but I must face reality. There are more practicing judoka in France today than there are in Japan and Japans population is declining. Ganbarimasu!

dapras That is what's wrong with modern judo. Some of the most effective techniques have been outlawed by these idiots at the IJF who claim to be preserving judo. I hope that judo is removed from the olympics, it is the best hope we have of keeping judo as a true martial art as taught by Kano and then Mifune.
@retrospect779 жыл бұрын
retrospect77 In order to understand judo in it's fullest, i think it is essential to learn techniques that are mostly practised outside of today's judo. Cross training in BJJ and wrestling would be a great way to get a full understanding of the techniques but it is a shame that necessary. All judo clubs should focus on teaching the art in full and only train sport judo in the run up to competition. However the syllabus at the vast majority of clubs and judo organisations is dictated by the IJF competition rules
