I don't know what to write here I can read subtitles well, and I’ve watched a couple anime subbed, but I almost always go for the dub if it’s available. I like dubs because they’re more “convenient”. Like if I’m watching some anime with incredible art (Violet Evergarden, Redline, etc.) I want to make sure my eyes are constantly glued to what is happening, not reading what they’re saying below. Or if I’m watching a Naruto filler episode, I can still tell what’s going on, but I don’t have to give it my undivided attention. I also find comedy anime funnier in English (Space Dandy, Konosuba)

Shouko is absolutely adorable. I almost cried when she was apologising to the mother. As for Shouya not realising shes saying she likes him, it's because he is honest in his desire to help her. He's doing it for her, not because he's expecting something in return. As annoying as it was to watch him being oblivious to it, it is admirable in that it means what he is doing is honest and with absolute genuine sincerity in heart. Me: frustrated at Shoya for not understanding her when she said she loves him. Me, a few seconds later: realizes Shouko can't hear voices, and Shoya can't hear people. He thinks voices of kindness, much less declarations of love, will never be meant for him. It's also because the pronunciation of the words she wanted to tell him can easily be mixed up and mean something completely different therefore, in some variations of the movie they even translated it the way she pronounced the words like, therefore she said "I luv moo" (pretty much) But I completely agree with you that he was never able to accept any kind of appreciation or affection towards him, or just wasn't able to recognize that it really was for him, because he assumed he isn't worth a thing. But you only realise it at the ending with him, opening up, hearing voices, seeing faces. I'm still a bit disappointed at how these types of films end with a cliff hanger... I always want to know how it went afterwards. But my imagination helps out sometimes.
